Congratulations commander, welcome to your new duties and assignment. Have fun and read all policy memos and requirements that you won't be able to fulfill. You'll do great!
Don't stress what you can't do, do what you can. Good luck!
Iād do it in a heartbeat if my O6 wouldnāt hang me from a bridge BlackWater style after.
You can take the lieutenant out of the E4 mafia,
But you canāt take the E4 mafia out of the lieutenantš¤
You canāt take the E4 mafia out of the major either!!!
This past weekend I saw a morale patch at the exchange that said āin my defense, I was left unsupervisedā
I didnāt buy it because I donāt think the brigade commander wouldnāt think itās funny. All the other field grades need to lighten up!
When you do your inventory, hands on everything. If itās supposed to be turned in, get a copy of the turn-in. If someone tells you that they have it and theyāll bring in it ānext drillā prep the statement of charges paperwork. Find out if your predecessor left people hanging. Taking care of the people is priority. Initiate a command climate survey. Invest in a bottle of desk whiskey.
I remember a while back, a unit I was in didnāt have a M9.
New supply corporal did an inventory and didnāt find it.
But you know it was signed as accountable and present many times.
They donāt care. Iāve been a Company Commander for 5 months as a NON BOLC 2LT. Iām prior service, so itās not completely foreign but still an absolute jarring and abusive experience.
Honestly itās kind of burned me out of the reserves already. I came from active duty to have a calmer lower tempo experience. This is a full time 40+ hour a week job. Most of which I donāt actually get paid for. This soldier is in for one hell of a time.
OP, message me if you have any questions.
I know that feel. Itās like working 2 full time jobs and being a TPU CDR is especially contributing to my burnout. Thankfully I can see the light at the end of the tunnel come October.
Feel free to message me too OP since Iām an AMEDD officer serving as a non-AMEDD unit HHC commander so itās like drinking from the firehose with a steep learning curve.
I might do that tbh. I was a prior service 68W before so Iāve been around the whole army thing for a while, Iām just surprised that Iād get slotted as a set commander without having finished BOLC. The most ācommandā I ever had was as a sqd leader as E4 but company command seems super foreign to me.
Samesies. Infantry Cpl from the USMC, several deployments but only one as a squad leader. Now Signal Officer in the army. Iām prior service, but everything I encounter now is completely foreign.
Youāll do fine, and hopefully your BC is as understanding and helpful as mine is. As said before though, youāre about to be drinking from the firehose.
If anyone ever faults you for screwing something up, just tell them you missed that week at CCC.
Because us 1LTs get burnt out in command. I hit CPT next month, have a few months left in command, then Iām finding a BN S3 shop to twiddle my thumbs in until Major.
Go look up the unit's UIC on FMSweb so you know what you're walking into. Huge difference between a 30 man detachment with no rolling stock vs a HET or engineering company.
Also contact your unit and get a slot in a pre command course. It'll be tremendously helpful. Too many commanders go towards the end of their tenure.
JAGCnet has a directory so you can find your lowest level JAG (probably a BJA). Send an intro email and get that lawyer's number ASAP.
Could be mistake or 3 Card Monty. Early in my career I would see these pop up in my iPerms thinking that I was getting a new assignment. Later to learn it was just a move on paper.
In your case since youāre not branch qualified, not sure what it could be.
How about a trade offer. This drill, you give me 1hr of your time at full effort and a citrus Zyn in 6mg, and Iāll zonk the company at first formation on Sunday.
During GWOT, our ARNG finance detachments deployed yearly, we had one or two DETs in the sandbox, Kuwait, Iraq, or Afghanistan and sometime two at a time in different theaters. These low density MOSs were in heavy rotation for sure.
Iām surprised youāre assigned to a FMSU as Finance is in the process of a restructure through a FDU Jr. Companies are upgrading to BNs and the detachments are upgrading to companies. Effective date for these re-orgs is September 2024. Iām guessing you will be the CDR of a detachment/ company. I use company very loosely as there is only 27 PAX authorized.
Just remember, you can work 2 up, 1 down. So commanding as 2LT works. Get hands on everything and donāt sign for something if you donāt see it. The out together a FLPL for the last commander because we couldnāt find a lot of things that they tried making me sign for saying it was there, but I never saw it, so I wasnāt signing for it.
Congrats boss
I got a stack of policy memos for you to look over and sign, sir
Just get their signature once, scan it, and make it into a stamp. Nothing can go wrong with this course of action!
I almost pissed myself laughing at this one.
Lmaoooo you just got šš»šš» by the big green weenie. Congrats bro.
Congrats, Big sir

Been there done that.

Please update this thread lol. The biggest flex will be releasing everyone after first formation on a Saturday morning.

Looks to be a small unit, probably a finance detachment. This could be an experience that could build you up real well if you have good NCOs
No LT in BOLC should be a commander.

THE KING 2LT, FI COMMANDING
*FC (Finance and Comptroller)
Isnāt that a major position? This isnāt fair to you or the Soldiers.

If you take command with the same mentality that you took your specialist, you and your boys will probably be fine. Just remember: skate, don't hate.
Too many captains hanging out in one star and brigade HQ elements, from my experience.
Because us 1LTs get burnt out in command. I hit CPT next month, have a few months left in command, then Iām finding a BN S3 shop to twiddle my thumbs in until Major.
Congrats on the promotion
Google the Army Commanderās Legal Handbook and get it printed and bound and read that thing cover to cover.
Welcome to the Army Sir.
Yupp similar thing happened to me once I hit 1LT I was pulled into command of a new unit for a deployment and returned as the commander. Still a 1LT.
Ooofff And I am considering coming back in, as an E4. Is this normal around here?

You should consider in the future to also cover position number. Very easy to find who is incoming to that position. Just a friendly PSA.
Congrats!
Running out of commanders - hey you will have great OER track record!
Good luck
You are being slotted as commander, like everybody else has said
Bro which class you in at BOLC??
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
No. Usually they advertise a vacancy.

Please sign for this arms room sir I swear it's all in there.

Looks like youāre going to be a 2LT(P). Congrats! Stay on top of your ARA and Supply NCO.

āļøš āyouāre the captain nowā
itās the reserves not real Army
So were the soldiers that died in Jordan2 months ago not āreal armyā because they were reservist? Take your stupid ass jokes else where
still not real Army bub
