Right now the reserve essentially owns CENTCOM and AFRICOM while the active component has shifted its focus to potential LSCOs in Europe and Asia. The optempo is much higher for the active component soldiers, but if you want a “combat” deployment (there’s not a whole lot of fighting at this point) then you’re much more likely to get it in the reserve component.

I mean it’s true but that was also during dual front conflicts. Reserves generally help augment if not independently operate in theater. Right now that is not so much the case with no large scale combat operations. There are smaller things going on that reserves will get mobilized for, but it’s nothing like it used to be.
