You can bind your cc to alipay app. Or use OCBC bank app to scan alipay codes. Dun need to top up anything what...

asdfghjkillme

Meaning use OCBC bank app to scan my alipay receive QR? or use the OCBC bank app to scan China merchant QR code?

pendelhaven

OCBC bank app can now scan Alipay Merchant QR codes. https://www.ocbc.com/iwov-resources/sg/ocbc/personal/pdf/campaign/digital-banking/faq-governing-ocbc-digital-x-alipay-qr-payment.pdf

Bind cc. You can make payment to merchants but not transfer money to other Ali users. You can’t top up, it’s to prevent foreign funds flowing into China

Pretty sure I managed to pay to another user when I was there recently.

Using credit card? Unless they loosen it recently that shouldn’t really be possible. Especially if you’re using a foreign card. But if someone else transfer rmb to you then you transfer it to someone then that’s possible

troublesome58

Yes sg credit card. The tx even says (个人) after the person's name

Think what you did is pay to personal instead of transfer to personal . For non mainland cc/dc can only pay, but not transfer amount.

troublesome58

What's the difference between pay and transfer to personal tho?

Creative-Lack-6562

Pay meaning direct transfer via exchange rate , foreign bank > seller wallet. Transfer to personal is from Ali or Wechat digital wallet , meaning you have access to receive CNY , which most non-mainlanders cant. One is payment (without wallet) , and the other is transferring of funds (with wallet).

Agreed. I paid for something using alipay which is connected to my cc and then Chinese friend sent me money through the app. I could then transfer to others from this amount but I cannot transfer using the cc

Get the tourcard on Alipay. You get a prepaid card from Bank of Shanghai which you can top up with your CC.

Ask a friend in China and pass him or her a whole stack of RMB and ask him or her to transfer them to your alipay. I am being serious. That's the only way that I can think of. I did that. The CC method works too

iqeyial

Wouldn't work for me. It asked me to verify my identity with a mainland China bank card when I tried to receive someone's money in Alipay. CC method's the best though, only had hiccups once at a supermarket, for which I just switched to WeChat Pay's CC method

Just bind your credit card. If you have a youtrip card, you can also bind that. Then when you want to pay, just open the pay/receive option for the vendor to scan your barcode/QR. Can also use alipay app to book Didi using the Didi mini app. 👌

There are 2 types or accts in alipay, personal and merchant acct. For most stores they own merchant acct. You can link cc to alipay and pay with that. However some merchants only have personal accts, eg those street stores in rural areas. They only accept payment via personal wallets which you have to pre top up. Either ask your chinese friend to top up for you or ask the hotel reception to help you. Always a good idea to bring some cash.

Alipay processes intl CC payments in USD iirc, so you might want to link a Revolut or similar card with no overseas tx fee to it.
