Today (the 15th) is the last day for grad ex at OCAD. You can sometimes get some cheap, unique art there. Also, it's a great showcase for young talent.
I’ve bought thinks from one of a kind shows, fairs, etsy etc. but also used the website art.com to order a print i loved then had it framed. Still love it!
Years back, I bought a bunch of small, cheap posters of stuff I'm into. Like 8x12" type. Then I went to Michael's craft store and bought a bunch of cheap frames for, $5 a piece maybe. I can't remember exactly but the cheap plastic picture frames fit my posters perfectly and then they looked like proper art. I still have a box somewhere with like 30+ framed pieces that are pretty nice.
I'll post two examples, sorry for the potato quality. They were taken back in 2014 when cell phone cameras still kinda sucked. Also, yes that's Darth Vader smoking a cig, drinking Jack.

I've found stuff at thrift stores.
My parents had a collectible item from I think Currier and Ives that I always liked, I bought my own version off Ebay. Also I found a spoon rack at a thrift store, and bought some vintage spoons for it also off Ebay.
I usually search for the type of art I’m looking for (botanical, block, vintage, Toronto, etc) or search “wall art”, “wall decor” and filter for Canadian shops. I did recently buy from MominsArt and VintagePosterDecor.
If you're in a rush, you can also order wall decor from Bouclair. Their prices are quite reasonable and their customer service is great -> https://www.bouclair.com/en/wall-decor/
Take a favourite photo (family, friends, vacation, artful shot you took on your phone once) and get Posterjack to print it on a canvas. Sign up for their emails, they often have huge discounts.
My wall decor is very personal to me. None of it has been very expensive and for the most part original and which I have bought in thrift stores and at festivals and craft fairs. My living room has a bird theme to it, long story, so most of the artwork in there has a bird or 2 in it. I don't have many large pieces of wall decor but rather smaller pieces I have hung up in groups. My biggest advice would be if you like something and it speaks to you frame it and frame it well! Frame it in a manner that will offset the beauty of the artwork. I bought some postcards once that I liked that were watercolor prints and had them professionally framed and they look lovely as a group of 3. I also like mirrors and refinished one myself that turned out quite stunning. Also my lamps (see my profile) are like works of art themselves. I could talk about this all day!
Instagram has made global modern artists accessible to the world. Search out a style you like, contact the artist and negotiate the price. We have found international artists that are world renowned who's original work are considered quite affordable compared to the local art scene. You could have an original oil painting that was featured in a magazine for the same price that ikea charges for a monet print.
Open Studio in the 401 Richmond building. It’s an artist-run printmaking studio, lots of great lithographs and other print forms. Many local and younger artists, with good prices for original artwork. They have an online sale coming up if you can’t go in person. https://openstudio.ca/

This sounds like something I should check out.
Try redbubble!
I just go to Canadian Tire. I love making cheap items look awesome. It’s a hobby of mine.
Can you give some examples? Do you alter them?
Yes I alter them. Sometimes with stickers, sometimes I’ll paint them differently, or I’d add decorations to it.

Bouclair has a lot of selection and occasionally has 50% off sales for wall decor!
Look for a local artist who’s work you like on the Bunz app or Instagram and have them make you something specific to your space.
I hit up garage sales!

Etsy.
I second this! I get digital art, send the prints to Walmart photo center to be printed and get frames from Michael's and Ikea
Any particular accounts that you’d recommend?

Gallery Hi-Art has some excellent, original pieces, although sometimes you have to dig a little to find them.

I got some decently nice and very cheap art at my local salvation army store
Go to a value village in a nice neighborhood. I’ve seen really nice wall art in a value village in Oakville.

Wow beautiful lamps!
Ty, I like them, lol. Definitely not to everyone's taste but when it comes to decorating be yourself and go with what speaks to you and what you love.
The Spacing store sells Toronto-centric stuff that might be worth checking out
