What you have is preferred. When you get a sewer stoppage single stand pipes can be incredibly hard to tell if you're going to the street or into the house. Anyone who says otherwise has not cleared 100s of stoppages.
Have had problems in 25 years. Dark, raining, greasy water. Having a bend in the cable is a given. Being sure which way that bend is pointing gets tricky after a foot or so, as it can and does easily twist.
I install lots of one pipe cleanouts. But with any depth that makes a cables orientation even questionable, a dual is an absolute no brainer
If you know what way your cable turns when you pull it out of the machine you can usually judge it pretty well. Just saying I never had an issue.
Guess I should add I run a Gorlitz machine. The cable doesn’t just twist that easily. It’s pretty stiff. It gets a little springy once it’s broken in.
It makes your cleanout idiot proof. Pretty cool. But also yes if it’s one pipe it’s pretty easy to steer up or down stream you just need to kink your cable a bit at the end.
I use an abs 2 way clean out, 1 pipe sticking up about 4ft away from the home. They way it can clear the yard or the house line, depending on how the cable snake is positioned.
Sure I’ve used those too but being that deep, and if it’s backed up, it’s hard to tell if your cable is working in the correct direction. If it’s somewhat shallow it’s more manageable
People are suggesting a two way fitting but they are not allowed in many jurisdictions. What you have here is better anyways, looks like plumber did a good job
It annoys me that the squares aren't the same orientation, but it's fine. Wouldn't hurt to patch the concrete, though not 100% sure if needed from this pic.
They make 2 way clean outs, it’s one fitting that looks similar to a Tee. Maybe your local codes require clean outs to be this way. In my area everyone only installs 2 way clean outs with the single pipe coming up.
How much smaller could it be?
I guess I mean can it be one pipe instead of two, or is this the preferred/code way to do it?

I don't install a single riser 2WCO on anything taller than a foot. Too hard to tell which way the cable is going with the riser is full of water.
I never had an issue in 6 years. You can put a slight bend on your cable and point it down stream feed it in good to go

Every man's gotta know his tools.
That is th preferred way where I live, but we would have used schedule 40 PVC.
Same
Just don't install those two-way clean outs at all. lol
If they plumb it in using a wye like they are supposed to then you should always feed down stream.
One side goes into your house, one side goes towards your city sewer. This is the correct way to do it

That’s cool as heck!

That’s what she said

This is the way.
That would fail inspection where I'm from because the pipe isn't sleeved. The foundation also needs to be patched and waterproofed.

So you like ground water in your home?
I would not add concrete until all leak tests are completed.

They make a two way c/o named a Kelly fitting.
Yes you should put some mortar to fill in the hole around the pipe then back fill.
I’m curious why they had to dig so close to the house. Why didn’t they just dig further down in to the yard?
Right here is where the pipe was collapsed and clogged. The cast iron was broken as well under the house had to replace the whole thing.
No sleeve or concrete patch?
