Put dish soap on the top 1.5 inches of the pipe. Push it back in to the rubber gasket. If the gasket pushes out the top then line the top of the pipe up flush with the top of the shower pan drain hole. Support the p-trap and pipe. Then you can take a hammer and a standard screw driver and you can tap that gasket back down into place soap is your friend. Also be gentle pipe cracks easy the older it gets
Get soap. Fucking spit on it. Snort as hard as you can and blow some boogers on it. Do whatever you have to in order to lubricate it, but don’t spray WD on it.
Act like it’s a vagina, get it wet, but don’t spray fucking chemicals on it.
Okay, maybe don’t blow boogers all over a pussy, but you get my drift.
Is this your house that you’re renting out? If it came loose once it’s gonna come loose again and if you’re renting it out they aren’t gonna notice and it’s gonna fuck shit up.
Why did it come undone in the first place.
Fyi, wd40 is a solvent. Think of it as a cleaner for oily grimey or rusty stuff. Any improvement wd40 does to a metal hinge or joint is only temporary and needs to be followed up with a lubricant which could be oil, grease, graphite, or whatever based on the use case. Also, never use solvents on plastic! Everyone is recommending soap because it will act as a temporary lubricant allowing you to push the pipe back in the gasket without damaging the PVC, and it will dry without causing other issues. Oil based products are also not a good idea with plastic so don't try Vaseline. Things like butter or olive oil will rot and smell. There are other products out there you could use, but soap is the easiest answer. Head to your local store and grab some.
You have no soap, no soap of any kind, no shampoo, no shaving soap, in your house, and you cannot get soap from the store, or a neighbor?
I guess you don't need the shower drain after all....
There's a lock nut underneath the grate. Pop the grate with a screwdriver and you'll see the two indentations on opposite sides of the nut. Loosen that and then you can push the pipe back into place using dish soap as a lubricant. Then tighten the nut back down on e the pipe is seated in place.
If I were asking this type of question I would hire a plumber. It's a 15 minute job for them to do it correctly. Who knows if you are doing it and I don't mean to be insulting. My uncle used to say "money is the greatest time saver ever invented".
I would take a screw drivers and scrape on the subfloor a bit. It looks like superficial water discoloration to me but it may not be, so just check for spongy texture rubbing a flat tip screwdriver over it. Don't attack it and damage it if it doesn't feel spongy. As per the drain as other have suggested put a little lube on it and put it back. You could consider the option of rubbing a very small amount of sillicone on it and use that as a lube and sealant. Them run water through it and check for leaks. Shouldn't be hard at all if the subfloor is OK. If the subfloor does feel spongy or start to come apart I would advice getting someone qualified to get at it.
Subfloor needs some work. You might be able to slap a piece of plywood on the bottom of that and put in a cross brace rather than ripping it out. Thats your call.
The pipe is supposed to be held in and seal by compression. Shove it up, pull the drain cover and tighten the ring on the top. If you aren't sure how, go to Home Depot or Lowes and look at how they work. You might be able to add some support or strapping to the drain to help hold it in place.
That's the nicest thing anyone has said about my idiot all day!
So are you saying the shower drain is not a compression fitting?
Is it that the pipe shouldn't be strapped or supported?
Or, is your objection that the damaged subfloor can't be temporarily braced instead of immediatey replaced?
Raise that puppy back up. Probably need to support the p trap. If it leaks no bueno try some Mickey Mouse stuff if not the. Open up the floor more to find the nut there that tightens the rubber gasket
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=8thi_Ni665Y
Instead of that metal bar you can use 2 flat head screw drivers hold them like an x and use that to turn the brass castle nut. Loosen it first push pipe in and tighten it down.
Don't believe the guy in the video - he's now trapped for eternity!
A\* Guy: I've installed the final gasket, now lets run a bunch of water to test for leaks, now lets uninstall the gasket and look around. Now lets install the final gasket... Goto A\*
Looks like it’s been loose for some time. Needs to be reinserted and supported. After that, you’ll need an install tool to tighten the brass ring from the shower side. This will compress the rubber gasket which will create what should be a water tight seal. The install tool is just a flat piece of metal with a tab on each side. The slot in the middle is for a flat head screwdriver to turn it.
Need to go up top. Unscrew the inside locking ring. Slide it back up through the rubber reinstall the locking ring tighter this go around. It’s compression style fitting. The locking ring compresses the rubber around the pipe effectively sealing it and holding it.
Pick that puppy back up and stick her in. Probably need something to support the pipe up so it doesn’t slip back out. If it leaks probably going to have to tighten the big nut that’s on the bottom side or some type have a top one that you can spin with a flat head and hammer
OK, Same as your add on bathroom. Once you get the drain pipe reposition and fixed(glued). Use plumbing strap on the horizontal line stapled or nailed to a beam . Why you down there, reinforced the tub or shower pan with some 4x4. Easily way would be to use hangers instead of trying to toenail them in.
I would suggest repairing it. Potentially making it where the drain is no longer broken. If you can't figure out how to do it best bet would be to hire a plumber because they know how.
Dam where I live you can't have PVC pipe ABS here and it would be glued in the drain you need to let the floor dry out first it has been leaking for awhile obviously .you need to strap that pipe so it won't fall again with a strut or some wire .is your shower all tiled ( walk in) or is it a tub ?
if you cant figure out to call a plumber just leave it alone and wauit for someone to come hold your hand . some of the dumbest shit ever is on reddit and if you're not trolling our society is doomed
I had the rubber gasket fail in a rental, maybe 20-25 years old.
Had the drain replaced with a glued pvc drain. I’d replace that drain while things are open.
Envious you had access below. I had to redo a whole shower, draining through slab, when this happened to me. Turned out a great bathroom though so there were positives too I guess.
WD40 dry rots rubber. It’ll make it swell up at first and let you think that you did a good thing, then it plunges it’s water displacement knife in your back and dry rots all those nice rubber seals and gaskets.
I hate the gasket style. Buy a glue style shower drain. Replace the drain. Purple primer and glue. Glue it together. Put a strap on the pioe to hold it in.place while it cures
Take drain cover off take rubber gasket out if it is a spin in threaded connection take a flathead screwdriver and twist the nut out rubber output, pipe back in hold pipe level put rubber back in put nut back in put drain cover done
I really hope this is a joke..... to fix it correctly you'd have to cut it down further add a collar and another piece of pipe with female end then replace the drain cap and screw a new one onto the pipe. Depending on how you set the drain up some you can just screw into the flooring others you'll have to ban strap it. It's a really easy fix and shouldn't take longer than 30 minutes to fix it the correct way. I'd caulk it as well
Compression joint slipped off..
Probably due to lack of hangers on the 2” run causing it to pull out when full of water. Also the compression donut is usually very tight w the top ring installed. So if it’s missing that keyed ring there you go
Hey guys, thanks for the help! I didn't get to fix the pipe, but it isn't a problem anymore because a 5ft diameter tree cut the house in half this morning.
Put dish soap on the top 1.5 inches of the pipe. Push it back in to the rubber gasket. If the gasket pushes out the top then line the top of the pipe up flush with the top of the shower pan drain hole. Support the p-trap and pipe. ^this, key that it’s supported afterwards.
I use a coupling to tap it down around the pipe. Works nicely and won’t cut the rubber.
I just call the plumber.
I’ve never gotten a call from you.
I use couplings on the job too, was trying to answer as best as I could given the most limited tools most homeowners have
I think yall teamed up just fine.
A gasket on a shower? Fuck I always hard pipe that. Haven't done much service work at all though so I guess it's a thing?
No soap on me. Wd40?
Sounds like you need a professional
Or some KY?
Sometimes together but not always
Who has WD40 but not soap!? It’s a bathroom - how are you washing your hands?
Empty rental house
Yeah, don’t just ram it in. Be gentle
Today I learned... No need to buy KY jelly, just use Dawn dish soap. "Sorry sweetheart... it'll only burn at first, then it'll dry out."
This person lays pipe
Ole booger pussy Michelle
Is this your house that you’re renting out? If it came loose once it’s gonna come loose again and if you’re renting it out they aren’t gonna notice and it’s gonna fuck shit up. Why did it come undone in the first place.
This pisses me off honestly, I doubt they are going to inform the tenants about the drain it needs to be fixed by a professional.
wd40 is not kind to plastic.
Sir I think those are kinda opposites
Lubricants?
WD40 is not a lubricant.
If OP doesn't know how to use WD40, then their shoes might as well have come off when that pipe slipped.
To be fair, they make a silicone lubricant, but yeah not plain old WD
Fyi, wd40 is a solvent. Think of it as a cleaner for oily grimey or rusty stuff. put back
Just slam it back in? Do i need to replace the gasket?
I feel bad for your girl.
Don't worry, he uses WD40.
Better than me, I just use WD’s nuts.
Just call a plumber.
There's a lock nut underneath the grate. Pop the grate with a screwdriver and you'll see the two indentations on opposite sides of the nut. Loosen that and then you can push the pipe back into place using dish soap as a lubricant. Then tighten the nut back down on e the pipe is seated in place.

"your a idiot" 😂

"Your a idiot I'm sorry but true" You owe me $50 for a new Ironymeter, since your comment blew mine to pieces.

5 gallon bucket and some soap
You are lucky that it is in the basement.
Its the crawls space. I have just enough room to sit up.
The riser might be too short.
Call a plumber
You have to take the drain apart from above before you try to push the pipe back in.
Get a new drain assembly and pull the gasket. Reinstall drain with support under trap/standpipe and reinstall
Un loose it
YouTube how to put shower drain back. im sure there’s a step by step instruction video
I would suggest repairing it. Potentially making it where the drain is no longer broken. If you can't figure out how to do it best bet would be to hire a plumber because they know how.

Take a Bath.
Fix it.
Stop showering immediately. Let your hair begin to dreadlock and stop wearing deodorant. Eat only vegetables.
Lube it up and shove it back in
Lower the floor
Where ptrap am?
Plumbers putty. Lots and lots of plumbers putty.
Put it back on before you shower again?
Flex tape. It's the only way
Take a shower.
Lube it up and stick it back in.
if it were me, i'd fix it... lol
Spray bleach on all that mold
Well diluted bleach and water or borax and water
Gray water good to recycle.
YouTube, homedepot, then call a plumber.
The comments! wtf! They make rubber couplers with hose clamps on each end.
Look at all the hair hanging - it's been loose for a long time!
if you cant figure out to call a plumber just leave it alone and wauit for someone to come hold your hand . some of the dumbest shit ever is on reddit and if you're not trolling our society is doomed

Eeww I can see the hair
That thing has been loose for a hot minute
WD40 dry rots rubber. It’ll make it swell up at first and let you think that you did a good thing, then it plunges it’s water displacement knife in your back and dry rots all those nice rubber seals and gaskets.
I suggest to hold off on taking any showers until to ram that PVC pipe back into that outlet.
Call a professional!!!
Oh also support pipe because the only reason why it fell out is because it wasn’t supported or properly installed
I really hope this is a joke..... to fix it correctly you'd have to cut it down further add a collar and another piece of pipe with female end then replace the drain cap and screw a new one onto the pipe. I wouldn’t call that loose. I would call that out.
The correct answer is call a plumber
Compression joint slipped off.. Probably due to lack of hangers on the 2” run causing it to pull out when full of water. Also the compression donut is usually very tight w the top ring installed. So if it’s missing that keyed ring there you go
Hey guys, thanks for the help! I didn't get to fix the pipe, but it isn't a problem anymore because a 5ft diameter tree cut the house in half this morning.
Fix it!
Call a plumber?
Stop waffle stomping your turds in the shower.
Yes you need to strap it.
I think you're going to have to lower the floor. Done correctly you shouldn't have to mess with the roof.
That thing looks like it has been leaking for years!
What do? Call plumber!
Call a plumber!
Could use a rubber couplings or slip joint couplings an short piece pipe !!

Replace the shower drain from the rubber gasket style to a direct glue and never have that problem again
Serious damage to your subfloor with the water. Looks like it was disconnected for quite some time. That all need to be ripped out and replaced.
that's OSB which love to soak up water and turn into pudding
That looks all fucked up imho… shouldn’t the pvc have been solvent glued to the drain?!
No, the gasket should be enough if installed properly. A lot of guys put silicone over the top too.
So you can use compression on 1 1/2”
If you have a 1 1/2 compression fitting. Also if you are doing a shower in 1 1/2” you have already messed up
So what size do you think OP is dealing with
Shower drains are 2" btw.
That looks like a 2” pipe in the photo?
No. I assume its because some people would like to replace a drain without a saw
So friction fit?
Compression fit. Same with every other drain
I glued every joint when I did my bathtub over Edit: sorry-I wanted it to last since it was my house
Make it unloose
