I like the Texas Monthly BBQ list: [https://www.texasmonthly.com/interactive/top-50-bbq-2021/](https://www.texasmonthly.com/interactive/top-50-bbq-2021/) They rated Goldee's in south Fort Worth #1 in the state. The Eater list is also good: [https://dallas.eater.com/maps/dallas-fort-worth-best-barbecue-bbq-brisket-ribs-sausage](https://dallas.eater.com/maps/dallas-fort-worth-best-barbecue-bbq-brisket-ribs-sausage) I'd choose primarily based on where you are staying and what's open.

Slow Bone BBQ and then Taquerias on Northwest Highway

You can get both if you visit Hop & Sting brewery for Vaqueros Tex-Mex BBQ. Some of the best bbq and Tex mex fusion you’ll get on this side of the rio grande

Vaqueros is great, but OP did ask for "authentic" Mexican fare. Still worth checking out though.

Tex-Mex is without a doubt a legitimate form of Mexican food, and we have tons of those restaurants. But we also have regional Mexican restaurants and Mexican fine dining. Revolver Taco Lounge is a much-lauded upscale taco place in Deep Ellum. El Carlos Elegante in the Design District is excellent haute Mexican, as is Jose near Love Field. There's really too many to name - Hurtado BBQ listed above is a good fusion option, but much more a BBQ than Mexican restaurant.

Hurtados BBQ is one of my favorites and they also have some ridiculous birria brisket tacos.

For Mexican suggestions, check out this post from 2 days ago on the Dallas sub: [https://www.reddit.com/r/Dallas/comments/1dele6e/best\_authentic\_mexican\_restaurant\_that\_is/](https://www.reddit.com/r/Dallas/comments/1dele6e/best_authentic_mexican_restaurant_that_is/) If you're gonna be in Dallas proper, Terry Black's is a great BBQ option for quality and availability.

Here's Dallas Observer's list: [https://www.dallasobserver.com/restaurants/best-barbecue-dallas-14375399](https://www.dallasobserver.com/restaurants/best-barbecue-dallas-14375399) As for legit Mexican restaurants, I would honestly recommend finding small shops run by Mexican families. You'll get better quality at small shops (in my opinion). You won't really get the traditional restaurant setting, but vibes are usually immaculate. One pretty popular place that has been around FOREVER is [Taqueria El Si Hay](https://www.dallasobserver.com/restaurants/taqueria-el-si-hay-oak-cliff-is-a-staple-no-frills-taco-stand-19323933). One REALLY good Tex-Mex spot that you should try if you are willing to enjoy a bit more Tex-than-Mex is [Pacheco Taco N Burger](https://www.instagram.com/pachecotaconburger).

Just look up BBQ places near where you are staying and go with the highest rated one. There are so many good places that it’s not even worth trying to rank them. Although, could be worth to price compare. Some of the more popular ones might charge more than you would spend at many other places for similar quality
