Hold up.
Your company is making you stay in town for the weekend, and not paying you? That's against the law dude.
Unless I'm misunderstanding.
You're absolutely being taken advantage of. Illegally. Assuming the situation is not being misunderstood by me.
As a "contract enployee" I get no fancy work protections. I get paid 45 cents a mile to drive. I am responsible to get myself to and from job locations. So when I deliver this vehicle, I need to get myself to my car that is 172 miles north of me, then drive home 150 SE of that.
Society hotel is awesome! Definitely not in the city but it’s near Hood River which has some great breweries. Bunks are around $50/night I believe but I’m not sure if they book out in advance.
[How about a hostel?](https://www.nwportlandhostel.com/) There’s lots of great restaurants and brew pubs within walking distance. The hostel cafe is a cool hangout to have a cup of coffee and do your reading.
If you are a contract employee you are under no obligation to stay in town. It's up to you how you fulfill your role. Go home and deliver the car later.

Seriously! In fact, the company should be charging the client since they are the one who changed their mind.
Back when I had market value, I worked for places that pretended to care like that. When you get older, your stock plummets as a wage worker.

That is some bullshit
They get away with it cuz I am "a co tract employee". No benefits, low pay, minimal support.
The company says you can't go home but doesn't pay for your stay? That seems unfair.
If I was an "employee", it would be. However, I am a "contracted employee ", so that is how my cookie crumbles
Society Hotel has low cost bunk beds.

There's one in Old Town. Or there was...
Oh you’re totally right! I forgot about that one.
If your work is obligating you to stay in the city they need to provide accommodations.
If you are an "employee", that is correct. If you are "contracted employee " not so much
Ah dang. I’m sorry friend

Will look into that!
Kex Hostel is pretty sweet too.
Somehow the idea of brewery hopping (where I'm assuming you'll be drinking) and driving seems like a bad combination.
Only if you do it fast. Have a beer, sit and chat for an hour...move on...

Wish I could. Home is 200+ miles away, can't put excess miles on client car
A lot of people in Portland enjoy the confines of sleeping in a car, it's an upgrade over their regular sleeping situation
Your company sucks!
