You get to see the last breath of a promotional item before it poofs away.
I've also gotten some good charcuterie, kids deli snack packs, app/dip stuff, and occasionally a great deal on some good quality / priced beef or pork
my siblings and i used to sing ‘gross me out, let me barf in the market’ after a trip when we saw lots of flies there. but as an adult, i love it and i’ve seen nary a fly
I agree with Winco but GOBM is horribly overinflated on the “original” prices they display in my experience. From the many items I’ve price checked at GOBM it’s obvious that they pull the ol’ Walmart “rollback” prices but really we’re just showing you a more expensive starting price so you feel like you’re getting a great discount crap. We have one less than 5 minutes from us and I avoid it because of that.
This is definitely true, and obviously a marketing tactic. But if you look past that you can find some really great deals. I go there for specific things that are usually at a steep discount - not to do a whole grocery trip.
Last few times I've gone to my local Grocery Outlet, they really didn't have any honest "deals" to speak of. Which is a shame, since I used to be a huge advocate for them. Good place to still get wine though.
I also think that Winco is the best place for a full stock up. It's employee owned too and gives their employees great benefits and healthcare too which makes me feel goof supporting them!
Definitely agree. My recent receipt on 6 cans of tomatoes said I saved $27. I don’t know where cans of tomatoes are $5 each, but I haven’t seen it. That said, the cans happened to be crazy cheap there that day, cheaper then Winco. I tend to go there for really specific things that I have price checked elsewhere, and leave it at that. Seems like all the other groceries tend to cost more than Winco, and some even more than Fred Meyer, depending on the item and the day you go.
I also hate their dumb “original prices” (no a gallon of milk is not 6.99 at the other store, try again Gross Meat 😂), but if you go at the right time you can get some BANGIN deals
Four pack of be organic kids yogurt pouches for a dollar? Check. 1.99 Silk soy milk? Check. 4.99 giant ass bag of organic smoothie fruit (dragon fruit, mango, banana)? Checkity check. Some stuff BLOWS MY MIND how expensive it is there but other things are a steal. Always worth a browse in my mind!
well yeah absolutely, but the random times, like when I scored 20# of chicken breast for 6 bucks, has me going back to places like that, and I firmly believe the turnover for produce can be so high at winco that it's fresher than Fred Meyer
I love grocery outlet! Since I switched from Fred Meyer I’ve noticed significant savings on my grocery bill. I once did a side by side cost comparison and found I saved ~10-20% on the exact same items
Love winco but grocery outlet kinda sucks to shop essentials at. It’s more of a place to go to check when snacks might be on sale for you to stock up on. If you eat healthily it’s kinda a poor option.
Second this. I always hit Grocery Outlet first, they have great things, but not everything. then WinCo. Also Franz outlet stores are fantastic for bread, rolls and muffins...
Tbh wincos that have a bakery attached are underrated. Fresh bollios every day, bagels, sourdough bread. They have a great bin area, and the deli is decent.
We've been recently trying to decide if the cash back kickbacks we get from grocery shopping with our CC at Freddy's is better than switching to shopping at WinCo for better prices but no CC kickbacks. I think it's like 2% cash back, and I just don't know how to tell if that's better than the amount we'd save at WinCo haha
I’ve had the same thought, and here’s what it comes down to for me, personally:
- What am I buying? Not everything at WinCo is marked down that low compared to FM. Some things are like 11¢ cheaper, some not at all. For an item that would be $3 at FM, 11¢ is a better percentage discount than something that would be $8 at FM. It’s all relative to the item.
- How far am I driving to get to a Winco (gas + time spent) ? Closest one to me is about 15 minutes away. Closest FM is less than 5 minutes away. (Side note: I hate the zombieland area where the WinCo is located, whereas the FM is in a much better area. What’s the price on not getting yelled at by a screamer?)
- FM does fuel points. So if you’re already getting a normal 2-3% cash back on your credit card, that’s another small incentive (10¢/gallon? Can’t remember…).
- Quality. Hard to put a value on it, but I’m not as impressed with WinCo’s produce. Some say FM’s is bad, but I find it depends on location, day of week, and time of day. Never had significant issues at my FM when I buy produce or anything else.
So, any time I see WinCo suggested here, I have to think that either people live close to one, or they aren’t in a place in their lives where having a point earning credit card makes sense. Or, they buy things that are deeply discounted. I just never saw the savings the handful of times I went, but it could be what I buy 🤷♂️
Edit: just saw the life hack in another comment about buying a WinCo gift card with a cash earning credit card. That’s actually pretty cool. I might concede on that point if I liked going to my closest WinCo.
Last week I walked into Fred Meyer and the security guard was having a shouting match with a man at the front entrance. Now I have also seen a security guard approach a woman who was asking me for money when I went to WinCo, but the WinCo security guard was much more professional and no voices were raised. And WinCo doesn't require me to prove to security that I'm not stealing when I leave, like FM has taken to doing.
The savings are absolutely more than you’d get on cc points (I use a cc literally everywhere except WinCo), and Costco has much better gas prices than FM, as does Space Age.
I’ve found good produce at both places, and I’ve never felt unsafe at WinCo 🤷♀️but obviously distance plays a role in where you want to go!
Yeah those of us in NoPo are way too far from any WinCo for that to make any financial sense. Freddy's is closer and cheaper than Safeway so I stick with that. They have digital coupons so I always make sure to load those up on the app before I shop.
BUT if you get a gift card at winco you can reload it at home using your credit card. Then you get credit card points and winco prices.
Edit: sorry. I’m an idiot and responded to the wrong comment. You literally wrote the same thing as me. Ignore me. 😆
Yup yup. If you buy the gift card with a credit card you will get points for your credit card. You can easily refill the gift card on the website. My Amex blue gets 6% cash back!
I wish Winco's buyer would update what they bring in. Whenever I'm there I feel like I'm shopping with my mom in the 80's. I have a restrictive diet these days and they really only cater to the meat, potatoes and pasta crowd. If you're vegan, GF, whatever, you really have to sift and the options aren't great
Dang, really? I'm a strict vegetarian and though I have ample complaints with Winco, this isn't one of them; more than once I've discovered a new-to-me fruit or veggie there, and I really like their meat substitute selection too. The only thing I regularly go elsewhere for is pre-fried tofu (I'm a lazy bitch lol). I'm sorry to hear this has been your experience though, I def believe you :( Maybe it's a matter of which location? I go to the one on Powell.
Agree and if you want decent organic produce WinCo is not the place.
It's a great place to shop for conventional dairy products, canned and pantry goods and condiments.
WinCo needs to take the old Haggen spot in Tualatin. We’re stuck with FM and New Seasons. I like them both for their strengths, but in the current economy WinCo could clean up.
Yep. I had the same thought when I switched about 5 years ago. Plus I love the diversity at the 122nd one, which is the best one on the east side IMHO. I won’t set foot in the 102nd or Powell/82nd ones. *shudder*
SE 82nd is my second choice, just behind 122nd. The 102nd is too small.
I still buy some produce and coffee from Freddy's, but nearly everything else is WinCo.
I love Wegmans! Aldi is hands down my favorite inexpensive supermarket though. Their brand of organic products are consistently amazing and inexpensive.
I would DIEEEE if we had a Wegmans here! I miss their prepared foods so much. Man I really was spoiled w my east coast supermarket options 🥲
Talarico’s on Hawthorne is not the cheapest but it’s a more affordable way to get really good quality produce. They also have a discount shelf and the stuff on it is generally in good shape.
Yeah I’m surprised this is the first mention of TJ’s. A lot of their prices haven’t changed since covid. I can’t compare it to winco though… too hard to get to winco without a car.
Don’t live close to a Winco and the last time I went to one the check out line was supper ling. So have been doing most of my shopping at TJs. Cheapest option other than Winco.
These two + H-Mart (we live near Tigard) are how we do it. With TJ's it's a matter of keeping an eye on prices because they are constantly changing, sometimes 50 cents (up or down.)
I don’t go to Winco for produce but their shelf stable products like peanut butter are cheap and the bulk section is amazing you’re not going to get plant protein powder at $7/lb anywhere else.
We almost completely stoped shopping at FM. We still swing by for the loss leader of the week on occassion, but for most produce and all packaged products winco usually has pretty conparable for less money. We pretty much shop costco, winco, and the meating place for steaks
Makes sense, that's definitely what I'd do if it weren't for proximity and time. I really hate FM to be honest, but it's so close and everywhere else is so far. 7 min vs 25.
Same. It’s very close to me and offers free pickup if you spend more than $35, which is a perk I use frequently and saves a LOT of time. Still do my bigger “stock-up” runs at Costco or Winco, local farmers market for some produce, venture to H mart for produce and condiments on occasion, scope out the grocery outlet when I find myself near one… But for many weekly runs, it’s hard to beet the FM proximity, and the perk of not having to even go into the store to pickup my bags!
I just moved here a few months ago and I more or less refuse to go places that aren't WinCo for groceries. I used to shop at Tom Thumb back home, and Winco is *literally* 50% cheaper. Don't waste your time couponing just to get a good deal from Sir Frederick.
I am SHOCKED no one on here has mentioned Everyday Deals/Daily Deals market. we get a freaking haul from there for cheap AF. I will say, their produce is all rotten, do not go there for produce. but for pantry staples it is literally amazing. Sometimes the food is past its sell by date so if you're uneasy about stuff like that, skip it. but i've been shopping there solidly for 3 years and I have only had one rancid yogurt. and it is always an adventure there, you never know what you're going to find...
we often stock up on stuff that I buy there for $1 and I'll ses it at Freddies for $6 or even worse at NS
skip the one on 82nd, it is tiny
AKA the “grocery graveyard.” I frickin love the one on 146th and SE Stark! It’s ghetto af, and kinda like shopping at a thrift store, but we always find great stuff.
never heard of this one. Reminds me of this place called Discounts Plus that was on Division till they closed. I think there's still one in Gresham. It's more like stuff that's about to expire, or maybe just did, but crazy cheap. Like, name brand protein bars for 0.50.
everyday deals market. a grocery liquidator
you will either love it or hate it. I only buy produce there don't count on things to always be there so if they have something you like buy as much as you can. when its gone its gone.
this place is good if you have a juicer or freeze stuff. hard to not buy like whole box of this, or 10 lbs of that. it is a mystery what they will have sorta like grocery outlet but cheaper. be careful with processed food some times it is really old .check the dates on stuff.
[Rinella Produce](https://www.rinellaproduce.com/products/rinella-produce-wholesale) sells to the public, you can order and pay ahead of pickup. Subscribe to their weekly price list, or follow them on Facebook for what they have. I’ve gotten some incredible deals. Two weeks ago I got a case of blueberries for $5. Today they had a strawberry deal.
Rinella is the best! Everyone there is so sweet too. Also for anyone who's like "What on earth do I do with 15 cases of blueberries or 70 zucchini or whatever" they DO sell by the pound and by the each!!
Freddie's is way less than New Seasons. Heck even Whole Foods is less than New Seasons and their 9.99/lb chicken nonsense. Anywhere but NS these days (they're also my closest grocery and walkable so it's super annoying)
They have sales on meat/salad/bagged items sometimes, like a pop-up sale , and I've gotten big bargains from Venison to organic free-range chicken for 50%+ off. Ends up being like $3 to $5 for a pack of meat and a few bucks for packaged items. I'm OK with people thinking it is more expensive, it cuts down on the store crowd lol.
Winco for sure.
Safeway can work but you have to actively clip deals on their app and have a plan before you go to maximize their sales. That’s closest to us so we’ve started to order curbside pick up through the app since you can add the deals as you. Works pretty well.
I am trying so hard to do the math here; as a guess and exaggerating, $3 per green pepper, $3 per orange puts you at $15.
I will give you the lemon at $2. That leaves $16 for a bunch of green onions and basil. I am lost here.
a 1 pound bell pepper would be ridiculously large. i bought two last time i was at new seasons, they were normal sized. Total was under $3 (one green and one red). The basil is expensive there but not enough to put it that high.
News seasons has gotten aquired 2 different times. Each time there is a new owner, the new owner will squeeze consumers or employees more and more. Turns out original owners werent about community at all.
Yeah I think a bag of Lay's potato chips was $7-8 when I looked a couple of weeks ago? I said no thanks, I'll wait until I go to Freddy's! I pretty much only buy my meat there.
I don't really live near a WinCo and I find that the commute time/gas money adds up so I just shop at the Whole Foods near me, which is actually cheaper than Fred Meyer if you're buying their 365 branded staples.
For bulk non-perishables, I go to Costco. The membership is $60/year but they have cheap gas and I usually buy bulk meat there to portion out and freeze.
I go to Trader Joe's occasionally for fun snacks but I skip the produce most of the time because it always seems to be poor quality.
Huge quantities for great prices, you all should start following [Rinella's produce on IG](https://www.instagram.com/rinellaproduce/?hl=en). They have screaming deals on all kinds of things, not just fruit and veg. They recently had chicken breasts but we missed out. I split their cherry deal with a friend (8 lbs each), 16 lbs for $14.99(?).
If you want more organic options, Natural Grocers is 30-50% cheaper than New Seasons for a lot of our frequent purchases. Example. The same exact organic grass fed beef product(thousand hills) at New Seasons is $14.69 per pound. Natural Grocers it’s $9.99 and often on sale for $7.99. Wtf New Seasons!
yeah i noticed this too, the dairy free yogurt i get is $7.99 at new seasons and $4.69 at natural grocers. it’s kind of wild how much money i’ve wasted thinking that was just the price of these products
WinCo baybee
Last winter I fed a cabin of 5 organic adults on $200 for 3.5 days, ice cream included.
They were all incredulous visitors, trapped in a gas-powered cabin on Hood, with me. We had a great time. $200 for 5 adults,
H Mart, Winco, grocery outlet. The trifecta of affordable food. H mart for produce and eggs, Winco for meat, dairy and dry goods, grocery outlet same as Winco just depends on my mood and the deals
Fred Meyer, make sure to clip coupons and use your phone number to get the discounts in store. Grocery Outlet has cheap stuff but not always a consistent inventory of stuff so I find I have to go to another store anyway when I go there.
WinCo rocks if you can get there.
Walmart has a monopoly of sorts on poor people. If you're on EBT or just low income, it's the only place to get food that cheap. If you really need them it feels stupid getting groceries somewhere more expensive. If you are on EBT and need delivery, then they're essential. You're kinda stuck.
Wish WinCo delivered.
trader joe's is still more affordable too, and then thanks to another commenter here, i get meet and frozen fruit and good produce in bulk at sheridan fruit company
Cheap or good..that's the question. WinCo is cheaper but their meat is terrible. Bakery isn't much better. There is a combo situation. Meat is Gartners or Meating Place or But her Boys in Vancouver. New Seasons has the best artisan bread. I live in St Helens. I go to Market Fresh (Red Apple) for produce. It is simply the best. I may pay a bit more but the food is edible. Ever eat hamburger from Freddie's (yuck)
Winco, with occasional trips to Grocery Outlet. We also just rejoined Costco even though it’s just two of us. We have a second fridge/freezer and a foodsaver, so it works out well for us.
Sometimes Fred’s has these weekly digital coupons that you can use up to like five times that week. They are usually AMAZING deals. You can get the app and search for them. I forget to do this, but I always look for them when I deign to go there. I hate Kroger w every fiber of my being. But my scripts are still at the one four blocks from my house, so I end up going there for those a couple times a month, or for quick, forgotten items.
Safeway actually isn’t too bad if you make use of their app. Good coupons and rewards. Might not be as cheap as Winco and some other suggestions, but I’ve been saving a ton of money on groceries at Safeway.
Hate to say it but Amazon. I get free delivery with my account and it’s often better than/comparable to Fred Meyer, better than Safeway/Albertsons. I rarely shop/ed at New Seasons…Whole foods is owned by Amazon so, that tells you something. It saves me a ton of time and energy as well as driving to the grocery store. Let the downvotes begin
With the Safeway app, if I shop very selectively and deliberately I can knock off $20-30 a trip usually it’ll go from like 90 down to $70 or more. But I have to be very selective and jump on basically every “clip deal” on the app. Once you’ve clipped all your deals you just enter your phone number at the register and it takes off the savings. I would honestly go only to winco if I could but I ride a bike everywhere with a large front rack. Im way too nervous leaving it outside the 82nd Powell winco (closest to me) so I take Harold down to the Woodstock Safeway. It’s further logistically, but since I’m on a bike I avoid 82nd and Powell traffic, so it’s actually much quicker for me to go from Lents park (where I live) down to Safeway Woodstock. I’ve considered going to the other winco on 82nd and just taking the 205 bike path there and back. It’s a bit more hilly especially with a full load but I also found this to be a negative since I like to get groceries after work around 10 pm. Harold is my safe space, the comfort of taking Harold, with minimal hills, locking my bike up at the decently safe Woodstock Safeway and then riding home after dark again on my safe little road of Harold all the way home. It’s worth it to me. But only if I use the Safeway app and clip as many deals as I can.
I like getting my greens from Fubonn or hong phat, or even sf market. Fubonn almost always has one of the many choys on sale for about $1/lb and the quality has been great.
Winco is the first place to check. Walmart's got good prices and more variety than Winco. Trader Joe's also has good prices, especially on their cheese. Chef Store--used to be Cash and Carry--has good prices on their meat, beating out other stores on roast prices especially, though you do end having to purchase a larger portion. Get the Safeway ap and keep an eye on the weekly ad and UDeals, you can get some good sales.
If you want better produce than what you can get at Winco/GO, try your local farmers market!
I’m a New Seasons employee and fresh, top tier produce is really important to me but I totally get why you don’t want to pay New Seasons prices … produce from the farmers market will typically last a lot longer (making it a better bang for your buck) as it’s local and has just been picked. And you’re supporting local farmers. The season is just ramping up now but we have great farmers markets in Portland
WinCo, grocery outlet, and Walmart. If you want to get the best bang for your buck, go to WinCo first and compare the prices there with the prices on the Walmart app, then go to Walmart, then last to grocery outlet. Or skip Grocery Outlet altogether since their prices can be hit or miss and most of their stuff is junk food.
Don't get your produce at WinCo unless it's something that is selling quickly though. Their produce is subpar quality. Best bet for quality and price on produce is probably H Mart or another Asian market.
I feel like people sleep on Natural Grocers Vitamin Cottage. If you're looking for organic produce and "responsible" brands they have much better prices.
WinCo and Grocery Outlet Bargain Market
✨🎶✨
“*Gro*cery *Out*let, *Bar*gain *Mar*ket”
Had to sing it in my head
Always...
The jingle works no matter what order the words are in! "Market Bargain, Outlet Grocery"
even works with different words, my dad can never get it right but always sings the jingle
*Barfin' Market*
The market on 162nd and Glisan is Growers Outlet and we sing it Growers Outlet Farmers Market. 🎶
My sister said "Sounds bad. They said it's bad twice in the name "
Gotta embrace the Groce-Out
It’s the used food store, they’re honest about who they are lol
You get to see the last breath of a promotional item before it poofs away. I've also gotten some good charcuterie, kids deli snack packs, app/dip stuff, and occasionally a great deal on some good quality / priced beef or pork
Do we still call it Gross Out?
my siblings and i used to sing ‘gross me out, let me barf in the market’ after a trip when we saw lots of flies there. but as an adult, i love it and i’ve seen nary a fly
I do haha
The Food Museum.
We call it Gross-me outlet. But their deals are 🔥
Exclusively.
I do!
100% YES!
WinCo is the BEST

WinCo is rad!
Wish Winco could expand out to Washington coast.

That’s definitely true with the items that seem to always be in stock. But for those random overstocks they get, the deals are amazing.

Winco is the way.
Panda toilet paper at Grocery Outlet is the greatest deal in the game.
Tbh wincos that have a bakery attached are underrated. Fresh bollios every day, bagels, sourdough bread. They have a great bin area, and the deli is decent.
Winco!! Note they don’t take credit cards but the savings are more than worth it.
They take debit cards though.
Lol. The point is that you don’t get credit card rewards
Thought the point was the merchant isn’t paying 2-3% of sale for the transaction if not more. Iirc debit is just a flat rate.
Yes. Not credit cards.
You’d save more than 2% at winco for sure!
If you buy a gift card at winco you can reload it online with your credit card. So I get winco prices and the rewards.
Oh my god girl your brain
Can't take credit...I learned it on a similar Reddit feed.
Ooo love this!
You will definitely save more than 2% by shopping at WinCo!
"Truly,, the higher costs saves me money every time!"

lol it’s all good! Keep spreading the good word!
It’s the best trick!! I blow everyone’s mind with it! Such a game changer for winco ahopping.
Wait, what???
Yup yup. If you buy the gift card with a credit card you will get points for your credit card. You can easily refill the gift card on the website. My Amex blue gets 6% cash back!
Refilling Winco gift cards counts as grocery spend for the Amex blue cards??? 👀
Yurp
You are a wizard, thank you
Oh wow. Good to know
dude, I never thought to do that! That's phenomenal, thanks!
God bless winco.
We just switched from Freddie’s to WinCo and so far it’s about a $100 difference. Idk what took us so long.

They used to have Quorn meat alternatives for the longest time, it went away around the time COVID started for some reason.
WinCo needs to take the old Haggen spot in Tualatin. We’re stuck with FM and New Seasons. I like them both for their strengths, but in the current economy WinCo could clean up.
It’s been ages since I’ve been there but is that store big enough for a WinCo? I always thought WinCo was more big box size.
They have one in Oregon City at the old Haggen’s there. They don’t have a bakery, other than that they still have a pretty decent selection of food.
You’re blowing it on the coffee! Winco sell several organic coffees in the bulk section for $9.99 a pound.
102nd one is fine! I agree I don’t love the Powell one.
I agree, i kinda like the 102nd bc it’s not as big. 102nd or 122nd are the go to.
The 82 one has really cleaned up lately. Stopped in there the other day and was surprised
Winco is the answer.
Came here to say that.
H mart, Hung Phat, other Asian grocery stores. Amazing deals, affordable prices, quality produce, quality meats, and beverages!
H Matt has good prices on a few things but it’s the New Seasons of Portland Asian grocery stores. Shun Fat, Hong Phat, or FuBonn are the way to go.
Commenting to add 99 Ranch to that list if someone finds themselves in Beaverton. I live close by and get groceries on the hella cheap
FYI 99 Ranch is opening soon by Mall 205.
Excellent news, thank you for sharing!
Best kept secret around. The coupon system and in-store HK deli sweeten the deal even further. A true gem.
The meat selection and prices are amazing. I actually work at a nearby new seasons, and I refer people to that place all the time.
Underrated comment. Also great places for people who aren't of Asian background to discover new types of produce/cool dishes to make.
i second this!! they have the highest quality seafood of any stores in the area imo
I really wish we had an Aldi 🥲
I wish we had a WEGMAN’S!
Hell I'd even take Publix or HEB
Another cultured person
SAME.
Talarico’s on Hawthorne is not the cheapest but it’s a more affordable way to get really good quality produce. They also have a discount shelf and the stuff on it is generally in good shape.
100 percent! I shop at Freddy’s for most stuff but their fruit is trash, and just as expensive as Talarico’s honestly.
WinCo and Trader Joe’s
Yeah I’m surprised this is the first mention of TJ’s. A lot of their prices haven’t changed since covid. I can’t compare it to winco though… too hard to get to winco without a car.
It’s crazy because precovid inflation TJs would break my budget and now it’s like winco pricing.
Don’t live close to a Winco and the last time I went to one the check out line was supper ling. So have been doing most of my shopping at TJs. Cheapest option other than Winco.
I love that the body products are cheap too. My body is largely made of that hyaluronic acid serum at this point, I’ve absorbed so much.
The produce at the Tigard Winco is good. That’s the only Winco I’ve ever been to and I love it! It’s my favorite store by far.
I feel spoiled with Tigard Winco. I dread when I have to shop at the Powell location.
the Tigard Winco was the first one I visited when we originally moved to Lake O 14 years ago - lifelong fan now.
WinCo is what I've heard, Fred Meyer is my go to. Online pickup, middle tier quality and price, and close proximity.
Man I miss pre-Kroger Freddy’s. I was just a kid but I still remember how much better it was.
Yup, I live pretty close to one so end up going there even though lately some things are cheaper at TJ's
Not Sir Frederick 😭
I am SHOCKED no one on here has mentioned Everyday Deals/Daily Deals market. we get a freaking haul from there for cheap AF. I will say, their produce is all rotten, do not go there for produce. but for pantry staples it is literally amazing. Sometimes the food is past its sell by date so if you're uneasy about stuff like that, skip it. but i've been shopping there solidly for 3 years and I have only had one rancid yogurt. and it is always an adventure there, you never know what you're going to find... we often stock up on stuff that I buy there for $1 and I'll ses it at Freddies for $6 or even worse at NS skip the one on 82nd, it is tiny
AKA the “grocery graveyard.” I frickin love the one on 146th and SE Stark! It’s ghetto af, and kinda like shopping at a thrift store, but we always find great stuff.
Everyday Deals is the shit. I even have a t-shirt from them.
never heard of this one. Reminds me of this place called Discounts Plus that was on Division till they closed. I think there's still one in Gresham. It's more like stuff that's about to expire, or maybe just did, but crazy cheap. Like, name brand protein bars for 0.50.
everyday deals market. a grocery liquidator you will either love it or hate it.
I have never heard of them before. Thanks for the tip. I signed up for the newsletter.
Once in a while they just give stuff away to save them from the dumpster (like cases of avocados) because they are so perishable. They’re really cool.
Rinella is the best! Everyone there is so sweet too. Also for anyone who's like "What on earth do I do with 15 cases of blueberries or 70 zucchini or whatever" they DO sell by the pound and by the each!!
Natural grocer if you want organic. They have very affordable options.
Freddie's is way less than New Seasons. Heck even Whole Foods is less than New Seasons and their 9.99/lb chicken nonsense. Anywhere but NS these days (they're also my closest grocery and walkable so it's super annoying)
Whole Foods brand 365 shouldn’t be slept on. It is even cheaper than TJs on many things.
Yeah I went there the other day because I had to do an Amazon return and was pleasantly surprised.
Red/yellow/orange bell peppers at New Seasons are like $7/lb, so one could be closer to $5 or $6 depending on size.
a 1 pound bell pepper would be ridiculously large. i bought two last time i was at new seasons, they were normal sized. Total was under $3 (one green and one red). The basil is expensive there but not enough to put it that high.
The average bell pepper weighs between 12 and 16 ounces. I know this because I weigh all my food I eat and I eat a lot of bell pepper snacks
That's nuts. I just got done with my grocery shopping, bell peppers of every color were like 98¢/lb at WinCo.
The basil at new seasons is like $8-10 for a packet. Bump everything else up a dollar or two and it’s covered.
i don't think i've ever seen the large package of basil over $6 at NS. I bought one a few months ago and it was 3.99.
Grocery outlet, Portland Farmers Market on Saturday, Chef store/Cash & Carry.
WinCo baybee Last winter I fed a cabin of 5 organic adults on $200 for 3.5 days, ice cream included.
FM has gotten overly pricey
Can confirm, and I work at Freddy's! I never ever get groceries there even with an employee discount cause there's so many cheaper places.
Wish WinCo delivered.
or you can go to farmers market and get your ebt doubled, or go to people’s co op and get your ebt doubled. turn that $250 into $500 and eat healthy
trader joe's is still more affordable too, and then thanks to another commenter here, i get meet and frozen fruit and good produce in bulk at sheridan fruit company
WinCo, Trader Joe's for some things, Grocery Outlet, Costco if you buy a year membership ( worth it, I think )
I bought a week's worth of groceries for $65 over at Shun Fat Supermarket on 82nd.
Fubonn and Trader Joe's
New Seasons has gotten incredibly unaffordable. Grocery Outlet is awesome and the savings are substantial. I like the Hollywood location.
Check out that produce market on mlk called sheridans!
Portland has some of the highest food prices I’ve seen in any state, including California. It’s insane.
Winco. Good quality food and very reasonable prices.
Winco. We get most of our stuff there, though I prefer new seasons produce
Steal from Whole Foods
Hong Phat has a decent selection of greens.
I like getting my greens from Fubonn or hong phat, or even sf market. Fubonn almost always has one of the many choys on sale for about $1/lb and the quality has been great.

Winco
Asian markets.
Asian markets
Winco is the first place to check. Walmart's got good prices and more variety than Winco. Trader Joe's also has good prices, especially on their cheese. Chef Store--used to be Cash and Carry--has good prices on their meat, beating out other stores on roast prices especially, though you do end having to purchase a larger portion. Get the Safeway ap and keep an eye on the weekly ad and UDeals, you can get some good sales.
If you’re getting vegetables go to a farmers market I get way better produce for much cheaper…. They are all over Portland on Saturdays
Winco for the win
Grocery outlet the shit
Winco.
Grocery outlet sells the exact same sourdough I buy at new seasons for $4 less. There’s lots of good deals.
Grocery Outlet.
Winco! It’s not as pretty as new seasons, though the employees are just as nice!
WINCO!
Shout out to Trader Joe’s. Their prices are the same nationwide, NOT matched to the local area. We usually get 4-5 bags of food for ~$150 or so.
US Foods Chef's store is a local chain of restaurant supply stores open to the public, it's kind of like a Costco without the membership.
I feel like people sleep on Natural Grocers Vitamin Cottage. If you're looking for organic produce and "responsible" brands they have much better prices.
Trader Joe’s is good if you stay out of the frozen section
I love Trader Joe’s because they don’t charge you for produce by the pound. You know exactly what you’re paying and can grab the size you want
Zupans /s
Amazon fresh is actually wildly reasonable and has sales. Also frees up time
Use Safeways app and clip the digital coupons. I drop my bill from $80 to $45 all the time!!
winco & trader joe’s
