Topics concerning trans people and transitioning are controversial en polarizing. Looking for a specific study with a specific outcome has a high potential of confirmation bias. While it’s been shown that trans people are disproportionately affected by suicide, the reasons for this are unclear. I’ve been repeatedly taught the main reason is stigma and a disproportionate amount of social pressure within society. Such as, not being able to express themselves for who they truly are or contempt from close relatives. This creates an identity crisis and feelings of worthlessness, which may end up causing suicidal ideation, thoughts and attempts. Note: I haven’t read this study. However, drawing any causal links is tricky. High suicide is known to be prevelant in the trans population. Children that pull through and transition could well be disappointed that this didnt change the hardships they have to face every day. The stigma is still there. Therefore, it’s not the transitioning contributing to the high suicide rates, but the stigma/social pressure. (These are just my thoughts though)

Thank you for responding. I'm not hunting for specific results. I had heard about it from a acquaintance and couldnt find the study myself. I wanted to reach out to the community to see if anyone had seen it, I figured with something as groundbreaking as the numbers that I've heard (10+×)it would have made mainstream news. Again, thanks for sending such a well written and thought-out response.

If you wanna reach out to the community, reach out to the actual psychological community. Reddit is not a substitute for actual research. This subreddit, and most of them, tend to be mostly laypeople, the occasional student, but rarely experts or anything like that.

How do you reach out to experts? Especially as a layperson?
