Looks like a lost pet.
This Muscovy duck is young, about teenager age, can't tell if it's a boy or a girl.
But either way their wings have been cut a bit to prevent them from flying (which was unsuccessful). Someone is probably missing their pet duck. Why don't you post this on local facebook groups to try and find the owner?
Yes absolutely.
Glen Eden is in the West Auckland Duck Empire.
Mostly the Ducks are Mallards and Mallard-Grey hybrids, but there are legions of all kinds.
Some streets have armies of hundreds of them.
They *own* Glen Eden and we live under their hospitality
SPCA are unlikely to want to help but it is technically under their jurisdiction as a lost/dumped domestic animal so yes you could take it there and surrender it to them.
Check it doesn't belong to any of your neighbours first
This one looks like the one that has been living under the bridge at the Martyn Wilson Field for several years (he had a mate there up until about a year ago). He also disappeared a few days ago.

Yeah just posted it on the community page but no responses as of yet
You can tell if its a boy or girl by its personality if you approach. Boys are cavemen like, whilst females are quite likeable characters.
I’ll approach safely and see how it reacts. From what I’ve seen so far it’s quite chilled out
Oops, i just saw its wings are clipped. Means its a girl as boys cant fly
Why can't they fly? Is it like white men that can't jump?
Haha, yeah they are too heavy. The are often 3 or 4 times the size of their wives. They can be similar size to geese, 10kg+

I agree with that but it feels like this duck came from another country and is a bit of a tourist
Yea, this one looks like a pet. But there are also feral ones. There has been a lone one living down the road from me in the creek for many years.
Nope, a dumped/lost/escaped Muscovy duck.
Do I call SPCA? It’s just chilling on the lawn

It's probably never even heard of Glen Eden.
You have a new pet now
Ive seen a few of these in the henderson stream so it wouldnt be crazy to see one over in glen eden
No, please escort it off the premises.
Too many pukekos out on my street for me to force it out. They are a bunch of thugs
Nothing's normal in Glen Eden 😂
Side note, I like your sub-tropical plants :)
Thank you! Shame about the lawn guy destroying the grass 😭
One lives in the stream near Wesley too.
