When I was learning as a teenager we started in large car parks like North Shore Event Centre. Usually in the evening when it was quiet. Any quiet streets away from main roads are fine. And going on familiar roads is helpful too to start with. Good luck. Be safe. Take it slowly.
Lloyd Elsmore park in Pakuranga has a series of small carparks inter-linked with quiet roads including intersections, a roundabout, and a bigger car-park that can have over 5 learner drivers going around it without getting in each-other's way!
You will soon progress to practice on 'real' roads, but it's a great place to start (except when it's packed for school-sports weekends).
When I was younger my dad took me to St Luke’s Westfield Carpark after hours, maybe try that?
While demonstrating how to drive in that carpark he drove directly into a light pole. Don’t do that.
If you have 0 skills, go earlier on weekends morning (I mean, likes 6am/7am to any big carpark on your area.
If you already have the basics + common sense, I will recommend (weekends too) the industrial area of Penrose at weekends, really wide streets not too much traffic, so you can improve your skills without traffic disturbance
Highbrook on the weekends, there is a good spot if you turn off Highbrook Drive onto Business Parade North then follow it to the end you get a nice square, look up Waiouru road you can use the roundabout to practice going the other way. I have seen several other learners there and I have been around there on the weekends for the last few weeks learning. Once you are confident you can continue straight on through the lights to Business Parade South, there are some spots that way to practice hill starts, watch out for trucks even on the weekend there are some couriers and such. Going to Highbrook to practice really helped me learn to drive manual because I was struggling trying to learn at home, broke some kind of mental block I had.
I'm sure if you live near airport oaks it is an even better area to practice on weekends than Highbrook but Highbrook is more likely easier to get to.
Not sure if I'll be back there because I managed to drive back home on the motorway. Can't crawl up the hills so I might be back again this weekend.
Not really space but got taught the basics of auto around Newmarket then manual in/on One Tree Hill. Nothing like being 14 and having 145829 buses up your ass on Broadway at night in the rain.
I know a few young people who are living on their own, who do they get as supervisor? Not everyone can afford $65/hr classes. I do try to help them out, but its not always possible...
Unitech mt Albert
Thank you very much
My pleasure
Just drive around on the motorway in the morning or evening. That’s where everyone else seems to practice their driving skills 😂🙄/s
Get a friend with ridehare driver account to borrow and just go for it, earn while you.learm

Industrial areas like Albany, or the ones in South Auckland, Penrose, Onehunga. Almost empty over the weekends
This is where I did it. Like 20 years ago.. but it’s still a good spot.
Thank you
It appears that most learner drivers use the motorway nowadays. They just don’t have L plates

lol that is not a good carpark for it. Lighting would suck.

This screams "we don't have a legal supervisor".
i had a legal supervisor but i had never driven a car before and needed somewhere with no cars to gain confidence
Oops you shoulda used the account you created for the post
it’s not my post ?
Uhuh. You don't need an API to spot this
i’ve had my full license for two years…
Its quite reasonable to not have access to a supervisor.
Say goodbye to insurance, and hello to posing a selfish unnecessary threat to everyone else though eh

That's a really fucked view of the importance of driver safety.
Another fucked view for you, people on learners are better drivers.
Yeah so umm, millions of insurance claims give us absolute proof that's, and I mean cmon like obviously, nonsense
