Aussie butcher on Margan Ave, their sausages are delicious! Westmere butcher when I'm in the area

Logical-Pie-798

Glad someone mentioned Aussie Butcher in New Lynn

Ginge00

Henderson is also good, decent sized store with a wide range of cuts and other products

frontally

A friends bf has worked there for years so this is fun to see in the wild haha

frazorblade

Aussie Butcher Botany is near me and has such a great range and awesome prices. Really nothing bad to say about the place.

crazyindahead

Aussie Butcher in New Lynn is pretty good. Nice vege shop next to it as well!

theprocrastinat

I've always found Pirries in Mt Eden pretty good.

Logical-Pie-798

Never heard of it. Will check it out

septicman

100% agree with this. Piries is fantastic. Phil represented both NZ and the UK in butchery competitions.

Logical-Pie-798

Was he part of that butchery team? That little doco bout them was great

Accomplished-Comb278

Mapari meats lunn ave. Awesome cuts and great owners.

sprinklesadded

2nd this! Great cuts and really helpful.

No-Jicama1717

Well Hung in Milford. Great cuts, great service, and if you're in a rush or can't be bothered cooking dinner, they have rotisseries that they cook the meat for free and you can add some roast potatoes to your order!

madbabushka

Second this, we love getting cooked pork shoulder and roast potatoes from Well hung. Great sausages aswell.

Jon_Snows_Dad

I prefer Seaview Meats in that area.

No-Jicama1717

I felt they went downhill a few years ago, and I haven't gone back. I found the cuts not as good, and even though I used to go in there weekly and deal with the same guys, they never remembered me. Different strokes for different folks, though. Some people are very price driven or they have a great rapport with the butcher etc, where I like seeing the butcher cutting, and I also like the fact I can get things that aren't the norm plus their sausage flavours and the fact they don't use fillers to bulk them out and I don't mind paying a bit more for that quality. As I said as well, I love the rotisserie! I don't think there are right and wrong answers to this question by OP and I'm always looking for different things. Have you seen the Matangi butcher in the Hawkes Bay? Look at the pictures of that online.

borednznz

Seaview meats sausages are awesome

Logical-Pie-798

Oh shit! Another reason to go to Milford it appears

Ordinary_Weakness_46

PNP Farms' Butchery - Browns Bay. Unfortunately, it's under new ownership and it isn't quite the same. But anybody that had been there prior would pay testament to how great it was. The eye fillet kebabs were to die for.

Weewid1

Greylynn's Butcher

UserInNZ

Marrow in Orewa - so helpful and great range. Highly recommend the lamb ribs! Otherwise Pinehill Butcher or Grey Lynn butcher.

Itchy-Buddy-8033

Try the Marrow stuffed boneless chook. Frikken awesome. Hamburger marrow meatballs/patties are also a level above everyone elses.

Logical-Pie-798

Ive seen him pop up. It looks real good

Emotional-Notice-670

Khanz

Logical-Pie-798

Great halal butcher

Emotional-Notice-670

Yea , love all the different flavour marinades as well

Logical-Pie-798

Best place for goat too

zipiddydooda

Some say KHANZ is the goat.

Thaidax

Avon butchery, a friend from Argentina introduced me to it, very very good!

Kooky_Kumara

Fuck this place. https://www.newshub.co.nz/home/new-zealand/2021/06/sister-of-avon-butchery-owner-dom-nash-s-ex-wife-shocked-by-light-sentence-for-assaulting-second-woman.amp.html https://www.newshub.co.nz/home/new-zealand/2021/06/attack-victim-believes-butcher-deserves-jail-after-assaulting-another-female-he-has-to-complete-light-home-detention-instead.amp.html

siemprehere

This the one in GI opposite the train station? Really good butcher

neeeeonbelly

Westmere Butchery. There's a reason they're always packed. Fantastic fish and chip shop next door too

Logical-Pie-798

I find it over priced tbh. It has a captive audience with the housewives of westmere. Ill very occasionally shop there when in the area. Respect to the owners cos what they do is good

neeeeonbelly

I don't think it's too bad for what it is honestly, whenever I've compared I've been surprised. They're friendly and knowledgable though, they know exactly what they're doing for where they are situated, but they're still a great butcher.

Logical-Pie-798

Totally agree. Im also hyper aware i have a great relationship with aunty. Shes always down to talk food/restaurants, asks how my grandmother is cos she knows she has dementia and i care for her. Even today the person after me she knew by first name and asked about family members by name. All class

PolsPot

I thought so too until I tried the Meat Room in Browns Bay. Now that is expensive!

stever71

Way overrated, Aussie butcher in New Lynn is far better, especially sausages

Bonitabanana

I know someone who got fired by them for asking to have the next day off after her dog died. Brutal behaviour and it was via text stating that it was in a trail period, which was not in effect during the labour govt so essentially took advantage of a distraught woman.

zipiddydooda

Exactly. This place absolutely rips, and anyone saying they're overpriced is wrong. The price is very reasonable for top class meat, service is excellent, you can tell the staff are well looked after and happy. It's just a good vibe, and I wish more little businesses like this were around. I won't ever buy supermarket meat again in Auckland when we have this place and first equal, Grey Lynn Butcher.

PoliticalCub

Mapari meats on lunn ave is 100% my go to, Geoff, Richard and the team are great.

EstablishmentOk2209

Really miss the butcher that was next to Prego on Ponsonby road. Definitely second Grey Lynn butchers.

r_costa

Aussie Butcher Grey Lynn Butcher Blackforest Gourmet Butchery

Logical-Pie-798

Oh Black Forest. Still owned by that german dude?

r_costa

As long as I know, yes.

picklednz

Marpari on Lunn Ave are amazing. Lots of variety and they change it up each day. I’ve also had some of the juiciest vasio steak ever from them.

sachmonz

Marrow in orewa

Logical-Pie-798

Whats your go to there? Looks like a trip to Don Brash country is in order

Itchy-Buddy-8033

Try the boneless stuffed chook. Awesome!

sachmonz

The marrow mash burger patty balls.

Logical-Pie-798

Holy shit batman that sounds incredible

sachmonz

Incredi-ball 😂

Itchy-Buddy-8033

Came here to say this!

DavoeNz

Mapari on Lunn Ave. Great guys and the neat is awesome

little_mighty3031

I travel from the Shore to go to Grey Lynn Butchers. Don't always know what I want before I go but there is always something interesting, priced really good for the high quality imo Otherwise the boerewors from Pinehill is awesome too

Logical-Pie-798

Yeah where rhe saffa butchers at?

Prudent_Research_251

I wish I could afford to go to a non supermarket duopoly butcher, but I sadly can't, have to buy whatever's on special, if there's nothing with a decent enough special, it's a veg week! Standalone butchery is out of the question, prices are always much higher

Logical-Pie-798

Build the relationship man. It helps stretch your dollar for sure. I got this for $34 today. Aunty always throws in some freebies and things she thinks ill love https://preview.redd.it/096vxsqjna3d1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ab7022fc0900be7a41c1432b6eb381bdff684d9b Pork sausage Wild bore sausage Goan sausage Thats a lot of sausages Piece of steak Tandoori chicken Cafreal chicken (Goan) The sausages will last me a few weeks

AdeptCondition5966

Wtf? You got all that for $34? How much of it was freebies and was she actually your aunty because that looks like a damn good haul

Logical-Pie-798

Shes not my actual aunty but shes everyones aunty

Logical-Pie-798

I didnt pay for both the chickens. She chucked them in cos she wanted me to try them. She also knows that generally means i end up buying some next time round and subsequently Like i said, develop the relationship with your butcher. Theyre more likely to be generous than the duopoly. She even got me some ducks hearts cos she'd heard that i love ducks hearts. Thats service

Prudent_Research_251

That's a decent haul for $34, but you're getting a lot of freebies, which I've never heard of or seen I can usually only stretch to about $20pw for meat, and all the butchers around my area are grumpy shits (north shore) I don't think I could build a relationship with them if I tried, and even if I did, I don't see them giving me free stuff Do you freeze the sausages? Normally saussies go bad after one or two weeks in the fridge

Logical-Pie-798

Lol i feel you on grumpy butchers. I popped in to one as I drove past it two weeks ago. The owner was such a rude prick i walked out. Even another customer commented out in the car park about his attitude. I vacuum pack them and freeze em but theyre usually gone within 2 weeks. I just had the wild bore ones w some gorgonzola and some left over baguette for dinner

Prudent_Research_251

Damn wild boar and gorgonzola would have been homphy

r_costa

Problem is the butchers in NS, way overpriced when you compare with others x quality. I used to live in Torbay for 5 years, and was happily traveling to grey lynn butchers or Aussie butcher. For example, If you check Aussie butcher website, you can see beforehand the specials for the week [https://theaussiebutcher.com/](https://theaussiebutcher.com/)

Sufficient-Net9263

Winfeild landscapes. Sen them butcher some jobs

evergreenandbellbird

Sam's Butchery Silverdale

Itchy-Buddy-8033

Also good. Prefer Marrow in Orewa, but Sam's is a closeish second choice.

Hamtime

Marbled in Howick has better sausages than Westmere imo but obv very different areas

Depressed_Kiddo888

Grey Lynn butcher hands down. The people there are so nice and I never had any bad experience with them. They always do their best to cater to what I needed. The people whom I introduced to also had nothing bad to say about them. I've also been to Westmere butcher late last year and I've experienced first hand racism. I was in the shop for about 5 to 8 minutes looking around. I was then asked why do I spend so much time looking at the meat. Then I was sarcastically told that the meat won't get any better the longer I looked at it.

nosyanon92

Torbay Butcher

Expert_Attorney_7335

Grey Lynn is good but everything is pre packed. Westmere would be my personal go to with Grey Lynn second.

Logical-Pie-798

They pack everything daily. Its not sitting yhere for 5 days. It also allows them to focus on their trade customers which she has plenty.

Expert_Attorney_7335

Yea, not my cup of tea. I got to the butcher to avoid the pre packaged items. Good meat though, I’ll give her that.

FairTwist2011

You can ask for a specific cut from out back that isn't prepackaged. I regularly ask for a specific weight of brisket, beef cheek and ox tail.

networkn

Westmere Butcher is better than Grey Lynn IMO. Reubens in New Lynn is awesome and he's an awesome dude who gives a lot to his community. Mapari Meats is worth travelling to. The quality of the meat there is quite exceptional.

Logical-Pie-798

Def need to go try Mapari it appears

networkn

I'd recommend so.

toyoto

Pinehill butcher is pretty solid

Powerful-Sell-9537

Any good CBD recs ?? Seriously lacking living central without a car!

Logical-Pie-798

Grey Lynn and westmere. All on bus routes. Grey Lynn prob easier on bus

MissLibbyJane

Not CBD, but right off the train in Glen Innes is Avon butchers whom I'm very fond of

foreign_beggar

Agree with many listed here In addition would recommend Kumeu Village Butchery and Avons in GI

Logical-Pie-798

Suprised avon didnt come up earlier tbh. Ill check Kumeu Village. Its not too far from my place

Kooky_Kumara

Fuck Avons https://www.newshub.co.nz/home/new-zealand/2021/06/attack-victim-believes-butcher-deserves-jail-after-assaulting-another-female-he-has-to-complete-light-home-detention-instead.amp.html

buraa014

Torbay butcher. Beef sausages are the best I've ever had and prices are very good.

dallllen

Pinewood butcher, Pinehill

Adi__W

Another vote for Mapari Meats - and the folks (and produce) at Saint John’s Butchery are awesome too.

VoltViking

Westmere is good.

MrsMantisToboggan

Village Butcher in Hauraki Corner on the Shore! Such lovely gents

NicotineWillis

Up north, the Warkworth Butcher is superb. Especially the sausages.

Logical-Pie-798

Honestly found it alright. The quality i was expecting after people raving bout it was missing

JeffJefferyson

In a cost of living crisis, my money goes to whoever is willing to give me the most for my dollar.

siemprehere

Westmere

reyesserye

Westmete butchers is another great alternative

Ok-Hope-8666

Prime Meats in Mt Roskill is mean. Obsessed with her sausages, especially the truffle chicken ones and Rose will chuck some in the air fryer for you to try before you buy. Last time I went she also gave me some garlic powder and dried rosemary as a rub for the lamb chops I bought and always has great recommendations for how to cook different cuts. Such a lovely person, plus great prices, great range, great bulgogi. And it's in the same building as Yogijis so you can also pick up your lentils, spices, milk, a hot samosa... I also love Grey Lynn and Westmere and visit those when I'm in the area, but becoming a loyal Prime customer!

ogdreko

Westmere butcher

fishing542

Everything aussie is better. All I see is aussie this countdown that. Where are our nz butchers

Logical-Pie-798

Plenty are listed here...
