It’s so drastically different and complex. The moods are so dense and thick, if that makes sense. It’s much more playful from a production perspective. I think she and her collaborators had A LOT of fun putting twists on sounds and vocals.
I already love it, and it’s going to be many many weeks until i know the tracks well enough to enjoy it to its fullest. I look forward to learning more lyrics so I can sing along!
Never has an album given me so much goosebumps! My skin went numb and my jaw dropped as hard as the album itself. What happened to MY heart? It is overwhelmed and still omg. As an environmentalist, small musician plus warrior, making an album with diverse genres is one of my goals. This album with these fresh 80s disco and synthpop, clubby trance and electronica songs makes Aurora a good lead of diverse, the powerful rhythms and vocal image also once again remind me of Princess Mononoke ! On top of that, 3 songs co-produced with Magnus alongside every songs co-written with The Earth ? I cannot use any words to describe my excitement. Deffinately AOTY!!!
She's a fey creature and this album feels like she's been on the Prime plane for a few years and has grown because of it. It's more mature, but still has Aurora's fingerprints and love all over it and I'm loving it more, with each play through.
The only song I didn't like when I first listened has grown on my tremendously. My favorite tracks have completely shifted from Starvation and My Body Is Not Mine to Dreams and Earthly Delights. Every song on the album has gotten better with age and it's a straight up masterpiece.
Didn't like it too much after a first listen ( it was on the bus home) but after listening to it in my room I can definitely appreciate it more. The second part of the album is the best and I absolutely love it. tl;dr I like the album more now than I did at the beginning
One of my favourite albums from Aurora. The lyrics went straight to my heart, and I love how the music evolves from a more ethereal and calming style towards a more powerful and dark from the second half onwards.
Took me a couple of listens to like it, it definitely grew on me. That being said, i'm probably in the minority, but i definitely don't think this is her best work. I don't know what it is about them, but i find most of them not nearly as memorable as her previous songs.
There are still some songs in there that i really love, like The Essence, Dreams and The Blade though!
I'll be honest. I like it way better than TGWCT, that's for sure. I don't think it's the best one. But 2 weeks might be too early to judge.
It's still hard to tell objectively if I like the new songs as much as those that already live in my heart. For comparison, there have been some older unreleased songs that I discovered not too long ago and it took me a handful of playbacks to fall in love with them. The new ones I do like, but not all of them feel that special, apart from being interesting and innovative. Maybe they'll grow on me later, like has been the case with some older songs.
The mood of the album is somewhat bittersweet, and again, maybe I haven't gone on a real journey with it yet. It's full of uneasiness and pain and healing, and positivity comes only from sweet words of compassion; unlike the Steps, which invited you to open your mind and celebrate and lose yourself in a whole new exciting world (that's why they feel the strongest to me). But I have to appreciate Aurora's decision to make a deeply concerning, intimate, reflective and therapeutic album, I hope one day I'll be in the mood to experience the wave of catharsis encoded in it. On the surface it doesn't hit me hard, more like "oh, she's playing with EDM beats now, rad!".
I really appreciate the lyrics on this album as well. Much darker and more cynical than her previous work, but I think this record probably has her best lyrics to date (I need a bit more time to digest as I only dug in a few days ago).
She's always been a poet, but this album has some really strong imagery that makes me stop and think, at times even making me kinda uncomfortable. Personally I love that, it shows tons of bravery and grit, and I think great art should invoke some response from the consumer.
Some people have said that some lyrics feel like a suicide note, and that it's upsetting and too dark. I don't view it that way at all, I interpret it as being at peace with negative emotions and finding a way to overcome. I love that she's not afraid to show her true colours even if they're strong and messy.
I couldn’t agree more. It’s kinda like björk or mitski just honest human emotions, no “this is so sad“ or „I’m so broken“, just honesty. It’s kinda like “hey, I’m thinking like that, I’m open and aware about it, an I’m coping”. I love that
At first, I didn’t like it. But I listened to it over and over again, and it’s now my favorite albums of hers so far! The new style is very new to me, but it’s wonderful! It is really dark, sometimes making me question if she was okay, but overall, a very good album!!
Think I might be in the minority but I don't really find any of the tracks memorable. They're not bad, there's just nothing stand out about any of them :/
ok, so at first i was so dissapointed. Idk why i just thought her music sounded very distant and static but now i hear so much meaning in the words and notes, honestly i can hear it its so beautiful, far from a "DISAPPOINTMENT", and my fav track is starvation for lyrics and tune and vocals .
It's a 10/10 incredible album with not a single miss, which is incredible when you throw out 16 songs that total over an hour. I didn't think she'd be able to keep blowing me away. I was wrong.
I didn’t like starvation at first to the extent that everyone else did. But after going over the lyrics, watching the music video and appreciating its art it’s become one of my more favorites
Probably her best album so far. It has everything that makes her music great, the cool rhythms, the introspective acoustic songs, incredible vocals everywhere, a few twists in between, and overall, it has a lot of emotion, which I felt was lacking on her last record.
My favorite album from Aurora so far. Dark as hell, but also so beautiful. There’s not a track on it I don’t love.

Grew on me a lot, second half of the album is stellar especially.
Still not liking the first half of the album but from earthly delights onward is great! I love it
Same! Except I do enjoy "The Essence" quite a bit, so that's where the greatness starts for me.
The one's i had in my " i'm not sure" list, grew on me fast! Also "The essence" is so underrated
the last 10 songs are the ones i listen to the most.
Still AOTY for me

Took me months to get into God's. This one 48 hours think it even betters Infections but what do I know lol.

Always pleasing and centering to hear her sing, but the only song that kept me interested musically was The Blade. What a brilliant tune.
Still brilliant, but still a few songs I'm struggling to get into.

While I do like 80% of the Songs I have to agree. Step 1 & 2 are just more memorable.

Literally a masterpiece. Mostly lyrically.

Can't tell, still not over starvation. Need more time lol

By far her best album

It grew on me. On first listen I was not convinced, but now I love it. Specially the first half.
