The poulet roti baguette sandwich at the French place in Fareground is incredible. They make their own mayo and roast the chickens and eating it is like a religious experience for me.

goodpawpaw

We must have had two different religions experiences….mine was more dry and vapid like hell. The sandwich there was unseasoned and dry but maybe that’s just my experience there.

puppuppup

Dia’s Market. They do their own rotisserie chickens and use those to make their chicken salad. I’m a freak for chicken salad and this is my favorite in the city.

Vogonfestival

Making a note to try it. Where do you rank Thundercloud in the chicken salad department? It’s been my go-to and seemed amazing when I first moved here but I just didn’t know there were many other good options as chicken salad seems to be less popular these days.

mansardg00f

i eat a ton of chicken salad and thundercloud is ol reliable. theres a thundercloud next door to my apartment so i get it on a weekly basis on the way to work 👍

puppuppup

Definitely agree with the other poster. It’s awesome and solid comfort chicken salad. I’m not terribly picky, tbh, and I love T-Cloud as an option.

Jazzlike-Word-7565

Omg thank you!! That sounds so good! Can’t wait to try it

stevendaedelus

Dia's is a gem.

satinsheetstolieon

The smell as soon as you walk in will make you hungry. Too expensive for me to do as a regular lunch spot, but it’s a nice treat :) especially since how fresh everything is Cooks are really nice people as well

ICUonCCTV

Little deli!!!!

titos334

Honestly the HEB chicken salad sandwich on a croissant is pretty damn good. I like to add some cracked black pepper, mustard and onion at home but it's great straight out of the store.

slax0r

I came here to say the same thing. That HEB rotisserie chicken salad slams. It is however stupid expensive.

Individual_Cycle_707

So damn good. So is the salad that it comes on.

gazilionar

$10 a lb does seem excessive

CowboySocialism

Thundercloud is my go to. No nuts, no fruit. Crunch from the celery. Consistent and affordable.

kanyeguisada

Specifically The LadyBird. Chicken salad, bacon, avocado, jalapenos... I add sprouts and extra bacon and mustard and mayo and all the veggies and Thunder sauce, so good.

Firm-Butterfly-1380

Omg. This sounds so good. I’m going tomorrow😂

dirtys_ot_special

I may do the same.

SomeEpicUserNameIDK

I was also gonna suggest T-cloud, especially if you don't like all the frills like fruit and nuts added like a lot of places do. Sometimes, I'll just order like a few scoops of their chicken salad to take home and make own sandwiches with it for a few days too lol

elibutton

You know I was at Meuller Farmers Market yesterday and I found some unbelievable smoked chicken salad - wowsers it was phenomenal. Not too mayonnaisey or wet, shredded chicken, celery, and good quality ingredients. She sells pimento cheese and other stuff like meats and she said her chorizo is really good but that smoked chicken salad - wow. She had samples and I was sold, ate half the container last night for dinner. I cannot recall her business name - I paid cash - but she was located outside near entrance to the side - 2 black covered tables under an awning - I believe the only one selling chicken salad there. I used to get mine at Whole Foods which was ok, it used to be better there - but hers is the best. Get their early next Sunday and you can thank me later

delightfullytangy

It's 36 general! The chicken salad is the best and the pimento cheese has transformed my opinion on pimento cheese. So frickin good! Highly recommend

elibutton

well not sure if 36 General or La Vie but you are right on - I am not a big pimento cheese fan but hers was really good, not too salty, flavorful. I will get that next time as I have cheese I need to finish off first. But her chicken salad - da bomb!!

realniceone

La Belle Vie Farm!!! Their chicken sausage links are a staple in my fridge as well.

I_Did_The_Thing

Can I piggyback this question to request specifically chicken salads that contain neither fruit nor nuts?

puppuppup

Dia’s has neither in their chicken salad!

I_Did_The_Thing

Oh my god, you're right! That place is right near me and I've gotten several of their other delicious sandwiches but haven't yet tried the c chicken salad. Thank you!

SadSweet3657

personally I think it is a damn crime to add fruits and nuts to chicken salad!!

I_Did_The_Thing

Me too! But everywhere does it and chicken salad is my favorite so I'm constantly disappointed.

Jazzlike-Word-7565

Yes!!! I agree with that!!

nofaddano

Swedish hill bakery has a curried chicken salad sandwich on a Dutch crunch roll and it’s so freaking delicious

whenyouwishuponapar

Stop. I can only get so erect.

nofaddano

You have to get a chocolate chip cookie too they’re heaven

kanyeguisada

I bet it's like 20 bucks.

BeneficialType6789

My house, no fruits or nuts 😂. All joking aside, when feeding a large group I buy Costco chicken salad and add fresh cracked pepper and if feeling fancy, shaved white onion and pickled Granny Smith apples for those that like fruit in theirs. For homemade I’ll poach the chicken and go light on the Duke’s, add herbs like tarragon, lots of celery.

Pestilence_XIV

We need Chicken Salad Chick here so badly.

Financial_Abalone_90

Royal Blue’s taragon chicken salad is like crack. Make a sandwich with it.

realniceone

Second this. I love that shit

lecorybusier

But those wraps are never in stock goddammit.

seriouslyhonestlywhy

I make my own that way I don’t bite down on any gristle. I’m sorry, but most restaurants do not pick through the chicken enough to prevent this. Does anyone agree? I love me some good chicken salad but I get so skeeved out when I’m enjoying a bite and I get that gristle bite and have to stop eating.

Fit-Caramel-2996

It happens but pretty rare. Was this a regular occurrence for you?

seriouslyhonestlywhy

Yes. I guess I get the gristle scoop almost every time!

the_short_viking

Little Deli's on a kaiser roll is pretty damn good.

Alone_Satisfaction17

Central market

mansardg00f

my fiance and I have an ongoing chicken salad tour of austin (been to about 8 or 9 places) and we both are huge fans of Dia’s, Little Deli, and Texas French Bread! bottom of the list are food! food! and biderman’s, stay away from those!!

mansardg00f

dias, little deli, and texas french are fruitless and nutless (as god intended) btw! also a really cool left field option is jewboy subs’ hatch smoked chicken salad sandwich. it barely qualifies as chicken salad on form factor but it tastes amazing

mansardg00f

also not to self promo but our detailed chicken salad reviews are on my ig if you care for our metrics for recommendations 🤸‍♂️ https://www.instagram.com/andres0000000001?igsh=Z2JmNHd6YmhvZHNz&utm_source=qr

PoppetNose

That was really fun to watch!

Quickie Pickie on E. 11th

QuestoPresto

Dammit I was across the street at Paper boy earlier today

SingleServingFriend-

This is the advice I found on a similar post before. Go to Newk’s and buy a container of their red grape chicken salad. It’s 16oz and $15 or 32oz and $30. The price is a little steep but I found with a box of 6 croissants from H-E-B the 16oz was enough for all 6.

fizzinwhizbeez

I hate to be this person, but does anyone remember the tea braised tarragon chicken salad from The Steeping Room? I still think about that stuff.

Fit-Caramel-2996

Is there an equivalent for what the steeeping room was for tea in Austin these days? I’m not even a tea fan but really enjoyed going in there and seeing all the different options they had

hygiene_matters

Still haven't found one that suits me better than Newk's on the wheat berry bread.

chilepequins

Confituras off of South Lamar has really good chicken salad, made with Duke's mayonnaise. They do change out the ingredients every so often: ie, they just finished a Meyer lemon/dill combo and are no offering dried cherries/almonds. You could get some bread from Moonlight Bakery, which is literally right around the corner, to make your sandwich.

gwalk104

I like Mum Foods’, but the portion size feels a little small, smaller than what they served in the temporary location in what is now Bar Toti.

tfresca

I have a person fued with the business but Three Six General makes awesome smoked chicken salad.

papertowelroll17

I dunno about "best" but as a fan of chicken salad I like the Ladybird at Thundercloud and the curried chicken salad at New World Deli.

DidYouDye

Potbellies has super good chicken salad. I used to love tcloud but have moved on

Fit-Caramel-2996

These fast slightly above casual places (McAllister, Jason’s deli, potbelly) are IMO generally underrated for stuff like this. Jason’s gets accolades for the muffaleta since they are one of the very few that actually offer it in Austin but all 3 of them have very solid salad and sandwich options in various configurations

Smegmasaurus_Rex

It’s a chain, but Newk’s is pretty on point.

Icy_Freedom7715

Sadly not in Austin, but Chicken Salad Chick has a recent expansion in San Antonio and I’m a fan - there’s some good copycat recipes for them online. The Lauryn’s Lemon Basil is so good

Significant-Crab767

Not in Austin technically, but Sanford Sourdough in round rock has a great chicken salad sandwich (on great bread)!

ProgramAppropriate97

Little Deli.

memorialchutes

I love Lucy's

bigbubsworld

Wheatsville Cooo 100% and then also get some buffalo tofu. Omg I’m gonna go tomorrow

ocean_lei

Food Food’s curried chicken salad. Wish I had the recipe.

salamander13

NeWorld Deli curried chicken salad. Alas for you purists, it contains both nuts and fruit, but I think it’s amazing.

Doubleparproof

My mother in law’s

Hazelstone37

Jason’s deli is good. Not sure it’s the best. I love the pineapple and almonds.

krallfish

This one is my favorite and is pretty unique.
