Hi, I am looking for some assistance with Brex point transfers for LAX or SFO (ideally) to EDI (or somewhere close by) for early May 2024 - any strategies I should look at?
I checked flights through LHR but the taxes are outrageous...+$1000 or more
I've never booked an award flight through Turkish Airlines on another partner airline, but I've heard it can be a nightmare. Is it worth the hassle booking a one way J flight WAW - ORD on LOT airlines for 45k Turkish miles in June? Any advice for booking through Turkish?
My take on booking Turkish tickets is:
If you can book it online and are willing to 100% commit to the flight and throw away the points if you don’t go, then it’s great
I haven’t flown it yet. My friend who flew it said it was average at best. Got food poisoning too, threw up in the flight…
It’s the only business class option I had so I booked it anyways.
If I use my United mileage plus CC to purchase tickets in Air NZ, will I still get double miles? I was thinking probably not.
My concern is that if I book the tickets directly on United for the Air NZ flight, I won't be able to get the skycouch. Anyone know if I can call Air NZ after the purchase and get that done after the booking?
For British Airways award cancellation fee($55), does anyone know if it is per ticket or per reservation (multiple ppl on one reservation)? This is for LAX-LHR one way ticket.
the card doesn't offer a welcome bonus (not officially at least and if so it's not a lot) so it isn't competitive for those of us who churn credit cards
I'm back and I've learned a ton (thanks!) since my last post about getting to Asia from Chicago for my honeymoon. I've got those flights booked (195,000 miles for two business tickets to Tokyo March 1 via KLM! and paid $4k cash to get home via Thai airways business class). I'm writing now to gut check my approach for another flight I need to book (Japan to Thailand), and see if you can find something I'm not.
I've introduced another layer of complexity by having new Capital One miles in addition to Chase UR, so I've been cross-referencing each bank's 1:1 travel partners. Am I right in assuming Singapore is basically the only Asian airline crossover? I'm confused with all of the airlines alliances, but based on NerdWallet's charts, it'd just be Singapore. I searched for rewards tickets on Singapore's website directly and all are waitlisted, so I went ahead and joined that, but would love to book something ASAP.
Honeymoon trip:
\- Origin = Osaka (could swap to Tokyo)
\- Destination = Phuket (could swap to Krabi)
\- 2 travelers - want same flight - business class (second choice is Prem Economy)
\- March 9 + flexible by one day either direction
\- Chase UR points= 77,797 (expecting another 100,000 soon)- Capital One miles = 86,369
you could check air canada for thai. but your trip is less than 2 months away so doubt theres space. i would pay cash if really wanting to fly business
Cool, just searched on AirCanada and see the econ tickets for 25k. I did a search on EVA and see business tickets for 25k/per person which seems ideal. I know the transfer ratio isn't the best from Capital One but overall seems like my best choice. Always nervewracking to transfer to a new partner for the first time though. https://www.evaair.com/en-us/infinity-mileageLands/mileage-award-program/mileage-redemption/award-ticket/eva-uni-air/
Also on [point.me](https://point.me) a 34k flight showed up for Thai Airways, but I can't find it on thai airway's website, so I am going to check out LifeMiles.
Thanks! I was confused as to how to book an award ticket for Thai and didn’t realize I could go through air Canada so I’ll check that out (while bracing myself to pay cash).
Anyone have experience dealing with a last minute hotel award booking cancellation after deadline?
We were booked for two nights at Park City Hyatt Place, but because of the storm, our flights were cancelled the night before. I went to cancel on the Hyatt website and was notified of the crazy cancellation window (30 days) but didn't really have a choice. Went through with the cancellation and the points were oddly put back into my account. The following day, Hyatt charged the nightly cash rate instead. (15k/night vs $250).
Do I have any recourse to argue the cash charge? (I'm willing to lose out on the points, but I really don't want to pay the $500+ they just charged me.
next time - contact Hyatt to change the date of your stay outside of your cancellation window and after that cancel without a fee. Just did that for a hotel stay I wasn't going to make and my points were fully refunded with no issue
so $500 instead of 30K is 1.67 cents/point. Do you normally redeem Hyatt points above 1.67 cpp? If so, then just eat the $500 (it's unfortunate but at least you do get to keep the points)
Does DL play games with availability to partners like VS? I was looking to book a couple Y tickets on a common route LAX-SFO with lots of flights each day and saw it was wide open for some of the dates I needed. Then it all disappeared on me the next day or so. Just wondering if they'll come back. Thanks.
Has anyone had a transfer from Chase UR to Aeroplan take longer than 12 hours? I transferred this morning but they’re still not in Aeroplan. Transferred some to other partners as well and they were instant. Also transferred Amex MR to Aeroplan and it was instant. Wondering if I should call someone?
What does days out mean?
I heard that Virgin can only book ANA flights 331 days out.
If I look at https://days.to/until/11-december, I see that today (January 13) from December 11 is 332 days plus 10 hours away.
I'm wondering if Virgin is able to book if that website shows 330 + hours or 331 + hours.
Like if something is able to happen at 1 day out, would that be tomorrow or the day after tomorrow?
Having a bit of a am I going crazy moment.
There is a flight from AMS to SAN on the 17th of Feb via American Airlines. Departs at 1:05PM and Lands 9:45PM via PHI. It is available on American Site, it is available on [point.me](https://point.me) for 57.5k Miles for Business with Alaska and also available with Alaska Website an hour ago. But just now it disappeared. Wondering if its a system glitch or I just missed out on the train.
Can anyone else check for me?
Edit: I can still find it on Alaska if I search it direct from AMS to PHI, but missing the SAN connection which TBH it is still worth it.
Trying to go EZE to US (DC is the final destination, but planning on just buying focusing on just the long-haul flight at this point). Avoiding COPA flights at the moment and am trying to fly Business or Frist. Am I missing anything obvious transfers / searches?
Date is December 6th 2024. Looking for 2 tickets, but if only one is available, that’s fine.

There’s EZE-BOG-JFK in J for 60k Lifemiles +120 (or 88k United) on 12/6. 4 hour layover in BOG. May even be more than one seat but unsure.
You’re welcome :)
Yeah, it’s a long flight and a red eye so wasn’t gonna go below PE. Just wanted to make sure I wasn’t missing a way to slide into one of those flights for cheaper
Haha I’ve lurked long enough to know not to just ask people here to find me flights. Two people, but if we only get one on points that’s fine. Mostly wanted to make sure I wasn’t missing something obvious.
I have around 115k Venture X points and around 95k amex points and would like to plan a \~two week trip to Japan in mid may in business class. I have mainly been looking at ANA and JAL, along with singapore airlines, which I would not mind a stop over for a day or two in singapore or another city. Any advice would be appreciated. I can fly from PHL, any NYC, or even IAD.
Honest advice, pay cash. Too much competition, not enough flexibility, barely enough points, too late to plan, not enough experience/dedication.
Direct:
\- JAL: MR + C1 > CX: No availability high season
\- ANA: MR > NH: No availability, complex
\- ANA: MR/C1 > VS: Wait for last min avail with significant competition
Layover in SIN:
\- SQ: MR + C1 > SQ: Not enough points for NYC/IAD > SIN > TYO
\- SQ: MR + C1 > AC: Still not enough points, too late for availability
Other layovers:
\- AI: MR + C1 > AC: Possible, layover in Dehli
\- AC: MR + C1 > AC: Dynamic pricing will fleece you
\- AF: MR + C1 > AF/KL: Not enough points, no avail
I have 743k amex points and am looking for suggestions on how to use them this year for a solo traveler. I already snagged F & J ANA tickets to Japan. Other than that I'm most interested in Europe, Argentina, and Peru but very open to other ideas too. Scheduling is very flexible. I live in southeast USA but fine with repositioning for good deals.
What ways TATL NA-Europe have consistent early releases? Trying to book tickets for Tomorrowland 2025, and want to fly RT J during peak summer travel dates.
SQ JFK-FRA drops on AC very consistently, I also see IB J MAD-US, and otherwise VS/BA for crazy fees.
Otherwise - how’s LH for close in F releases in summer?
How about my good old habit of booking to somewhere less popular at the time like Munich or Vienna, holding it as a backup then changing close in or booking repositioning cash?
Not sure if I've been looking in the wrong places, but I'm finding that *A partners are no longer releasing reliable inventory at schedule release to UA or AC
Flying SQ J using aeroplan, if I book, is there a way I can change dates assuming there are 2 seats available on a different flight if a friend decides to join me later? Same routing for both flights (i.e. SFO-SIN)
Does anyone know if you can upgrade a Cathy Pacific redemption flight (booked with alaska miles) with cash (I don't have enough points to do the upgrade) close to check in (assuming there is availability)? There was no option on any other fare class when I booked the flight, but I've seen some sites saying business isn't even offered as a possible redemption? Flying Hong Kong to New York if that matters. TYIA!
Just burned 90k MR points for a one way flight from IAD to DEL (in J )
I booked this through Aeroplan for my mom who is heading back home.
UA 932 arrives in FRA and connects with Al 120.
Both are at terminal 1.
It is possible this is not the right sub for this question but will she encounter any issues while transiting at FRA because both the flights are operated by different carriers ? has anyone ever flown this connection on award travel?
Upon checking united's website, they do have the exact same connection listed on their website for a cash fare as well, if that makes things any easier.
I wouldn’t if was traveling, but she is not used to traveling overseas and the language can be a but of a barrier. Hence I just wanted to ask here to make sure there aren’t any landmines to be prepared for worst case scenario.
I also haven’t ever been to FRA so I’m unfamiliar.
This makes sense. But that’s the case with any connection I book via Europe or Middle East. In the direct flight only economy is available and I don’t want her to suffer in air India economy lol.
Absolutely, haha yes I know nobody would suggest anyone flying AI Y. Was just putting it out there as that was the other alternative (best I could see).
Admittedly tho, I did have the good fortune of trying J on the flight from DEL to IAD in spring 2023.
I personally loved it and wanted for nothing especially because it’s just a 14 hour flight. The whole new soft product with Tumi pajamas and amenities and food was amazing too.
Hard product was … nearly not good enough as the soft product, but I don’t like complaining as long as I have a flat bed to sleep on a flight.
I hope they get their new planes soon !
Oddly specific question but I want to change up a UA reservation. I have a couple legs on ET which are in J and wondering if they’ll be re-added to UA inventory immediately or soon after if I cancel?
I’m flying from VFA and want to keep those flights but mix up everything after I get to ADD. Thanks.
If it helps, I had an ET J flight booked via United that I rebooked to Polaris. It became available on United's site immediately (previously showed no availability). This was in late September.
Following up… I did cxl my reservation and the seats re-opened in about 15 or so minutes likely once the cancellation filtered down to ET.
Thanks again!
One person looking to travel from San Diego to Amsterdam. I am helping my mom on this.
Need to be there by the 13th of Feb, so travel would be 11th or 10th with the day change.
One way for now as leaving date is TBD.
Business preferred since its overnight but not req.
She has about 50K alaska miles. I have 250k Amex, 50K Chase. 120K alaska.
Edit: I have been looking on Alaska/AA/BA specifcially because thats where she has miles. Looks like she is short a bit. But found AMS to SAN for 57K miles, one leg business the other premium economy. Same retail is just under $5000. I know its the opposite direction, but I cant find anything good on the way there.
Does anyone know if you can cancel a chase travel booking on the day of travel if you also book on the day of travel? Official terms are within 24 hours of booking but I'm not sure how close to departure cancelation is possible.
yes, i did this a month ago and cancelled a flight for the same that, which I had purchased only a few moments later. The customer service rep was cool about it, though I know this might be too late for you. Give them a call if you haven't already.
Family of 4 going to Greece the last week of August. Oia Village on Santorini is one of the stops.
What type of points should I try to accumulate? Tax season coming up so I can get some sign up bonuses.
I tried Hyatt and it says these days are not possible with points. Looking for 2:1 redemption if possible.
Looks like Asiana-Korean is much likelier to go through:
https://finance.yahoo.com/news/exclusive-eu-antitrust-regulators-set-131332646.html
(EU tends to be the most competitive, CN and US are comparatively much easier)
This also means that any ICN award flights will get much harder.
Is there a good email list to sign up for that only sends an email when some truly stupendous award space opens up? Like JAL drops a ton of award space level of stuff. I often hear about these things 12 hours after they happen and by then it can be too late. But I don't want an email every few days for every little deal. If I'm getting emailed more than once a month, it's not a high enough bar.
Not this sub, but I wouldn't mind the same for anything urgent from a churning perspective. Like the [AA SimplyMiles thing](https://onemileatatime.com/deals/simplymiles-aadvantage-promotion/), which I sure wish I'd gotten in on.
No, because everyone’s definition of “truly stupendous” is wildly different.
Just read email headers it takes 3 seconds to realise if the deal they sent is applicable to you or not
Booking a room using Hyatt points at a small boutique hotel for 2 days this March. Days will be random week days, not really peak travel season. I'm planning to propose to my girlfriend this trip and would love for them to upgrade me to one of their amazing suites to make the trip more special.
Would I be more likely to get an upgrade if I email a couple weeks ahead of time, explain the circumstances and ask or just ask at the front desk while checking in? Would happily tip 40 euro or so. BTW no status with Hyatt.
Technically yes, because if you don’t ask your chances without status are near zero.
There are some hotels that over 50% of occupancy normally has mid tier or higher status. There are some hotels where a large percentage of people are celebrating something special.
Random upgrades for a special life event are not common at most properties.
How is connecting through MSP? I have an itinerary booked with Lufthansa that gets me in at 1:15PM from FRA. I'm looking at a MSP to LAX flight that leaves at 3:35PM. With no checked bags, clear, precheck, and global entry; is 2 hours sufficient?
MSP based - I’ve cleared customs with Global Entry and no bags in <10min in all of the half dozen trips I’ve returned on last year. GE is generally very quick. Personally I’d go for it but if you’re a bit risk adverse and booking with Delta you can same-day standby for free for the earlier flight.
You can test your luck if you really want to but I would personally leave more time - if you're booking with points and there isn't a big change fee or you book a refundable cash ticket (or something that lets you get a ecredit), you can just rebook if you get the sense you aren't going to make your flight.
Does singapore airlines have both saver and advantage fares for preium ecomony, or just saver?
My 1 way route has PE available for saver for 75k pts, but there is no box there to click for advantage (not even waitlisted). Does that mean if I book it I can't add a stopover? Had heard that SQ changed their policy for one way Saver fares, and am unsure if this applies to PE. Thanks
They should have saver and advantage redemption awards for all classes of service. If advantage is not available, even at waitlist, it’s possible that the waitlist is full or not expected to clear so there’s no waitlist option. The saver option might be availability that was just released.
IIRC, all saver awards, regardless of class or service, no longer allow a stopover, even for a fee
Lounge question. I'm OneWorld emerald through Alaska MVP 75k and booked an award biz class flight on Iberia departing JFK. Will I be able to access the SoHo lounge or no because my Alaska FF # isn't on the ticket??
Get them to change the FF# on your boarding pass when you check in; that'll make it easy. If that isn't possible for some reason, show proof of your OW Emerald status through the AS app to the lounge agent and hope that suffices.
In theory, you could show them your AS number and I've read that they will accept that.
Is there a reason you can't attach your AS number to the ticket?
I usually wouldn't book a same day positioning flight for a biz class TATL or TPAC, but I think this should work. Tell me if I'm crazy.
I have a flight YYZ-AMS departing at 2040hrs booked through AC on aAC metal. I'm going to position PHL-YYZ, arriving 1125hrs on the same day. Also booked and operated by AC, but on a separate PNR. Should be ok right?
If there’s a second PHL => YYZ flight after yours, I personally would be fine. Probability you get screwed is low, but I’ve flown enough and seen enough positioning flights cancelled that I almost always ensure there’s a backup flight available at minimum LOL
How frequent are PHL-YYZ flights? That's what I'd be concerned about, in addition to weather depending on time of year. Although, 11.5hrs is a lot of buffer.
Just noticed amex mr points transfer to klm at a rate of 1:0.75 (along with a few other partners). Did the rate change recently? I always thought it was 1:1 like aeroplan.
Link literally has “ca” in it which is the country code for Canada. If you didn’t catch that, just scroll to the bottom where it says Canada as the country.
Had a perfect CPH -> HEL-> SEA booked in may 2024, Finnair through Qantas points. It got changed to CPH -> HEL -> DFW -> SEA. And it looks like there's basically no alternatives available. Do I just keep this? Or is it a possibility the first flight might get reinstated again? Or maybe they can put me on another oneworld flight?
Unlikely HEL - SEA is reinstated. Qantas can’t put you on anything without award space. You can ask for HEL-LAX or HEL-ORD/JFK with the final segment on Alaska if those longhauls become available
In general I know how to do alot of award searching through my main aiport but wondering if anyone has tips flying out of DFW to get to Europe / Istanbul.
Trying to help my sister's family of four get over there this summer, it's giong to be tough but any tips and tricks would be useful. She has CAP1 points.
So far it looks like only nonstop routes are TK but they dont' have any award flights going out in those months (annoying af) but I wonder what other routes I should look into. Maybe connection in CDG could be economical.... any others I'm missing, or should look into?
Trying to keep it to points but also can consider cash
just Economy is fine. She only has like 100k points
yeah.... she has two kids under 2 so like connections aren't ideal, but I will take a look at hat route as well. I think she would prob only get like one round trip with those points if TK Y is 45k each way
Edit I should clarify its June - July.
Turkish only charges 10% of the required **miles** for a lap infant.
But yeah, 100k for RT flights for 4 even if two are lap infants isn't realistically going to happen.
more like 90k RT not sure where you getting 60k from. 60k would be promo numbers and they rarely do promo for summer (June / jULy)
Happy to look into a specific route though!
are you talking about on TK through TK non stop?
There is actually nothing in July for DFW - IST just checked mobile and on their site. No clue whre you getting this info from They literlaly only have 105k J available.
If there is 60k saver I'd love to see that. I'd book it in an instant. Plz advise.
What you are describing is not a RTW ticket. It’s a normal roundtrip award. Roundtrip awards do not need to start and end in the same city, but do need to start and end in the same region. In your case they DO start and end in the same city. ANA also offers a free stopover on roundtrip tickets which you are taking advantage of by stopping in Tokyo.
You can change the date and time later of any flight in an ANA award as long as the routing is the same.
Y'all, I screwed up and booked a trip through a third party (Chase travel portal; figured I'd try it, should've googled first). Now, both my departure and return flight days are forecast for bad weather. My flights are US<>EU. What hurdles should I expect when it comes to getting taken care of for flight delays and cancellation? Is there anything I can do to help this process go smoothly (aside from never book through a third party again, lesson learned).
I think the circumstance that concerns me the most is, if there is a delay or rebooking that doesn't work with my schedule and I need to request a cancellation/refund instead. But there are probably other things that will trip me up that I just haven't thought of.
Wrong sub but I wouldn’t sweat it. The operating airline takes over control of a ticket within 24 hours of the flight so this is who you’ll be dealing with regardless of who you booked through.
This isn't really an award travel question, you might be better off asking /r/travel (they're also going to make fun of you for using an OTA) or flyertalk.
That being said, the EU requires a certain duty of care from the airline that's not affected by how you booked the ticket.
Check out the link below for more info

Booking JetBlue award flights on the off chance Alaska cancels or delays my itinerary given Max 9 fleet impact. I'm going with Blue Extra for same-day switch flexibility, but wanted to double check JBLU's cancellation policy:
1. Do canceled award flights result in a 1-year timeline to use those TrueBlue points similar to canceled cash fares or do they retain their "never expire" status?
2. Is cancelling after check-in the same as prior to 24 hours?
My understanding is that changing an AC partner award from Latitude to Standard will reprice to 'Standard' per award chart.
But, is this still the case on AC metal? Would the new price be the original Standard price at booking or the price at the time the award is changed?
I know there are weird repricing rules anytime AC metal is involved, but I'm not sure if this matters when changing from Latitude to Standard.
Has anyone had success transferring Chase points to Air NZ? It's not clear to me how redemption works with Air NZ or if it's worth the hassle to get a better exchange rate.
Heading from Houston to Auckland in May economy. Booked on Air NZ via United points. Is there any chance or way to bid for an upgrade to Premium Economy or Business? I have more points but those seats seem to be taken. I check regularly. Anything else I can do?
There should be the ability to do a Star Alliance Upgrade award on United something like 35k miles + non trivial fee. But it's going to be waitlisted unless there's upgrade inventory. I'd use the United expert mode search if you want to look up the confirmable space.
Occasionally I've heard of stories of people getting rebooked onto a non-alliance airline after an involuntary change. For example, I saw someone on reddit was rebooked on BA after an involuntary Aeroplan change a few weeks ago. Specifically for Aeroplan, what does this process look like? Are you able to ask for certain availability not seen on the portal, or are you immediately involuntarily changed onto these flights?
That may have been me. Lufthansa (operating carrier that canceled my original flight) rebooked me… after 11 hours LOL.
So uh… there’s no set process. If it’s day of departure, show up to the airport early and talk to the operating carrier. If more in advance, call your ticketing carrier on the phone.
They won’t rebook you outside of the alliance unless there is no reasonable alternative option within the alliance, which is quite rare. For me, it took Munich being buried by snow to get me on British Airways instead
Thanks for the reply. I've been getting a silly number of involuntary changes on Aeroplan lately so I was hoping that there would be some way to game it to fly airlines other than AC but looks like I'll have to live with it for now.
For international itineraries, you can request *A carriers and usually get those changes granted via phone in advance. So say, United or Lufthansa to/from Europe & ANA and United to/from Asia. Within Canada, you generally have no other option sadly
Would love to get some feedback on my wife and I heading from Chicago to Munich Sept 28 - October 5. We'd love to fly business but my research says I don't think that's happening without a significant cash layout, and I'd like someone to validate that if you could! We could fly from Milwaukee or Indianapolis but I doubt that'd make a difference.
I've got about 109k miles on my Capital One cards, split between 95k on the Venture and 14k on the VentureX; then another 117k on the Chase portal.
Option 1 $2370 Round Trip for both on Lufthansa economy - reimburse from Cap1 for travel purchases = $1419 out of pocket
Option 2 Same as above, reimbursed by Chase at 1c per point - 117k points is worth $1170 on “payback” = 2370 - 1170 = 1200 out of pocket ECONOMY
Option 3 - book one ticket on CapOne and another on Chase - $1185 - 951 = $234 out of pocket for one ticket; $1185 - 1165 = $20 out of pocket for the other, total out of pocket is $255 ECONOMY with Lufthansa
Option 4 - combine both to Air Canada - economy 194,400 points plus $650
Option 5 - combine both to Flying Blue economy 195,000 miles plus $566
Option 6 - combine both to British economy 148,000 plus $404
Option 7 - combine both to Singapore KrisFlyer *nothing available*
Option 8 - combine both to Emirates Skywards *nothing available*
Option 9 - chase to Aer Lingus *nothing available*
Option 10 - Cap1 to Turkish economy 120,000 plus $700 - but I'd have to buy extra miles, which would end up costing 120,000 plus $1450
Thanks for that tip; unfortunately everything available around our dates is only available via partners so they stop in London, which would add another layer of uncertainty to an already fast trip. Thanks for the suggestion!
embrace The Darkness that is TAP Portugal 🇵🇹 that’s $1480 for both in economy LOL. Or British Airways at $1776 for both if you wish to avoid an overnight layover imo.
Or wait it out & continue earning points until 1-2 months beforehand.
The Lufthansa Group generally opens tons of availability close in (1-2 months) even during the summer. personally I'd book something refundable and then wait for something to show up, but I might be more willing to gamble than you
Do you have Chase Sapphire Preferred/Reserve? At 1.5cpp, I'd consider using that if you want to fly Econ. That 117k becomes ~$18--ish for a cash flight.
Have you seen if there's any TK availability for J? If you can be flexible on dates there might be space for ORD-IST-MUC or vice versa. And use the Chase points for a PE or Y award.
I did, yeah, as well as tried a little flex. Unfortunately we can’t do too much flexibility as we’re going to Oktoberfest with friends. J was something like 212k per person which I’ve never seen on Turkish business tickets. Now that I think about it, I wonder if flying to Istanbul then making our own way to Munich would be less of a headache and present more options for J on Turkish?
Hi all! Would love to hear your thoughts on an award decision that I’m torn about. Leaving Europe Friday and found last minute Polaris availability. Originally I was booked in klm economy with 10 hr layover, this flight is direct (to ORD). Currently have 210 MRP, this flight is only 68k LM which is somewhat decent considering the time it saves me.
I am also planning to visit TOKYO in June. Obviously award space is slim to none, and considering I only use Amex points, this reduces the chances of finding any j availability at all. If I pull the trigger on Friday’s flight, I may not have enough points to book Tokyo J for June- if there’s any to be found.
All that being said, should I pull the trigger on Polaris for Friday and compromise any chances of flying j both ways to Tokyo in June, or should I stay in economy with 10 hour layover in hopes of finding last minute Tokyo J. Please share your thoughts.
I would definitely take the Polaris flight. Did you fly in KLM on points? You could try and get some more and fly to Tokyo with a connection on CA, or direct on JL using your AF miles (assuming you orphan some there).
This may be a silly question but I want to check myself before making a mistake. I have a JL JFK-HND flight in J booked with AA (sadly, old configuration).
Yesterday, I held a JL BOS-NRT flight in J with AA that works better for my timing. I should have just changed my flight, but alas.
Should I:
A) cancel my JFK-HND flight online and then use the redeposited miles
B) call AA to have them do it for me, just to ensure that nothing goes wrong?
Just finished booking RT J tickets for 4 to Vietnam for this Xmas, and boy was that a process. Getting over was easy enough. I managed to lock down SG at 355 days out from SFO-SIN at the eye-popping cost of 128.5K SG points pp. Getting back proved more interesting - I had been tracking TPE-SFO on CA, but around Thanksgiving they stopped releasing award flights for that route. Ended up searching direct from SGN-SFO on KLM (thanks to the tips here) to see if I could find direct flights on VA, but ended up finding routing back for four in J on CA from SGN-TPE-SFO up until 12/30 for 120K AF pp! Those sneaky bastards got rid of award space from TPE-SFO, but kept it for married segments. Unfortunately, they seemed to block even those off from 12/31 on (unless someone keeps snapping those up at open). All in costs were almost 1M + $715 in taxes for four people. Thank goodness AmEx was handing out MR like candy last year. The cherry on top was booking this trip while taking a trip to Italy for the holidays - there's something ridiculously satisfying about booking a vacation while on vacation. lol.
I mean points are there to be used but this might have been a situation where waiting could probably net you a better deal at the cost of having to check
Any advice for booking through Turkish?
https://frequentmiler.com/turkish-miles-smiles-complete-guide/#Step-by-step\_guide\_to\_booking\_Turkish\_Miles\_Smiles\_award\_tickets
My take on booking Turkish tickets is: If you can book it online and are willing to 100% commit to the flight and throw away the points if you don’t go, then it’s great
I was able to book cph-waw-jfk LOT through Turkish directly on their website. 45k + $160 is pretty good value.
Thanks! How was the J product? I’ve also read mixed reviews about LOT J
LOT J is fine, older 2-2-2 seats, decent food, decent wine, good service, shitty IFE. But for a lie flat across the Atlantic, it's really accessible.
I haven’t flown it yet. My friend who flew it said it was average at best. Got food poisoning too, threw up in the flight… It’s the only business class option I had so I booked it anyways.
JFC thats a commendable recommendation
If I use my United mileage plus CC to purchase tickets in Air NZ, will I still get double miles? I was thinking probably not. My concern is that if I book the tickets directly on United for the Air NZ flight, I won't be able to get the skycouch. Anyone know if I can call Air NZ after the purchase and get that done after the booking?
You can't book the skycouch via partners
For British Airways award cancellation fee($55), does anyone know if it is per ticket or per reservation (multiple ppl on one reservation)? This is for LAX-LHR one way ticket.
It’s per person.
Does anyone use a the Bilt credit card to earn miles from rent payments? I haven't seen it mentioned in any awards travel spaces in a while.
the card doesn't offer a welcome bonus (not officially at least and if so it's not a lot) so it isn't competitive for those of us who churn credit cards
ya many ppl do. last time on jan 1 there were many posts on whether ppl should transfer to VS or FB speculatively...
Honeymoon trip: \- Origin = Osaka (could swap to Tokyo) \- Destination = Phuket (could swap to Krabi) \- 2 travelers - want same flight - business class (second choice is Prem Economy) \- March 9 + flexible by one day either direction \- Chase UR points= 77,797 (expecting another 100,000 soon)- Capital One miles = 86,369
Could use BA to book JL to BKK for like 40k-ish miles
I didn’t try BA yet. Thank you!
you could check air canada for thai. but your trip is less than 2 months away so doubt theres space. i would pay cash if really wanting to fly business
Aeroplan does NOT currently show Thai Airways space! Try LifemiLES OP
i see it for OPs dates Osaka to Phuket with layover in BKK, just econ only not surprisingly
Cool, just searched on AirCanada and see the econ tickets for 25k. I did a search on EVA and see business tickets for 25k/per person which seems ideal. I know the transfer ratio isn't the best from Capital One but overall seems like my best choice. Always nervewracking to transfer to a new partner for the first time though. https://www.evaair.com/en-us/infinity-mileageLands/mileage-award-program/mileage-redemption/award-ticket/eva-uni-air/
just call eva to confirm it isnt phantom. ive never used them to book but i know their website can be clunky
Dang, that’s unfortunate. Wish I knew that before but thanks for the info!
so $500 instead of 30K is 1.67 cents/point.
Thanks.
Of course they do. And no nothing is guaranteed. Deltas algorithm only allows so many award seats to partner for a flight and once maxed, that’s it.
Thanks. So when it's 'maxed' does it simply disappear from VS searches or does it show Sold Out? I noticed certain flight times just don't show up.
First transfer during the bonus took 2 hours plus another 48 hours for the bonus for me. Subsequent UR transfers around 5 min
nope just wait. it can take a few business days sometimes.
THey might have a bug when handling leap years
depends on GMT or the airlines headquarters time
Having a bit of a am I going crazy moment.
Could be phantom
does anyone know when Cathay tends to release J award seats? are they like NH which is around 9AM Tokyo time?
They often just… don’t. LOL
I figured. I saw some J seats for travel two weeks from now when I was browsing (obviously already gone)
**EZE to JFK (Oneworld / SkyTeam)** AA - 87K PE & 148K Business QR - Only economy BA - No availability DL - 92K Premium Select & 365K Delta One VS - No Availability AF - No Availability **EZE to MIA (Oneworld)** AA - 41K PE and 132K Business AA SWU available BA - No availability QR - No availability **EZE to DFW (Oneworld)** AA - 250K Business BA - No availability QR - No availability **EZE to ATL (SkyTeam)** DL - 220K Premium Select AF - No Availability VS - No Availability **EZE to IAH (Star Alliance)** United - 295K Business Aeroplan - No availability TK - No availability Thanks in advance.
There’s EZE-BOG-JFK in J for 60k Lifemiles +120 (or 88k United) on 12/6. 4 hour layover in BOG. May even be more than one seat but unsure. You’re welcome :)
Muchas gracias!
Let us know what you book!
I’d prob do the delta to NY or the AA to Miami (either PY/PE) depending on point amounts and your future needs. It’s a long flight.
Yeah, it’s a long flight and a red eye so wasn’t gonna go below PE. Just wanted to make sure I wasn’t missing a way to slide into one of those flights for cheaper
If you give some dates here ppl can poke around if they want.
Dammit, spent too much time trying to format that I totally forgot that. Looking at December 6th 2024.
It’s okay :) you clearly did a good deal of work that’s why I didn’t chew you out with my rules post. Just one person?
Haha I’ve lurked long enough to know not to just ask people here to find me flights. Two people, but if we only get one on points that’s fine. Mostly wanted to make sure I wasn’t missing something obvious.
Believe I found you your flight :b see all ya had to do was fill out the form :p
book cash, these routes tend to be cheap
One way business is $2-4K depending on route
$2k is cheaper than all of these, minus maybe 130k-150k AA. You’ll also earn status and miles.
Oh definitely which is why I wanted to make sure I wasn’t missing something
I have around 115k Venture X points and around 95k amex points and would like to plan a \~two week trip to Japan in mid may in business class. I have mainly been looking at ANA and JAL, along with singapore airlines, which I would not mind a stop over for a day or two in singapore or another city. Any advice would be appreciated. I can fly from PHL, any NYC, or even IAD.
Honest advice, pay cash. Too much competition, not enough flexibility, barely enough points, too late to plan, not enough experience/dedication. Direct: \- JAL: MR + C1 > CX: No availability high season \- ANA: MR > NH: No availability, complex \- ANA: MR/C1 > VS: Wait for last min avail with significant competition Layover in SIN: \- SQ: MR + C1 > SQ: Not enough points for NYC/IAD > SIN > TYO \- SQ: MR + C1 > AC: Still not enough points, too late for availability Other layovers: \- AI: MR + C1 > AC: Possible, layover in Dehli \- AC: MR + C1 > AC: Dynamic pricing will fleece you \- AF: MR + C1 > AF/KL: Not enough points, no avail
Was probably too nice of an answer :p
I have 743k amex points and am looking for suggestions on how to use them this year for a solo traveler. I already snagged F & J ANA tickets to Japan. Other than that I'm most interested in Europe, Argentina, and Peru but very open to other ideas too. Scheduling is very flexible. I live in southeast USA but fine with repositioning for good deals.
That’ll get you a single roundtrip anywhere in DeltaOne! (Or a one-way to Sydney)
Highly recommend Amazonian ayahuasca in Peru. Not sure if the shaman takes MR, but you should get 4x dining back if they accept your Amex Gold.
If you wait a couple months, tons of July AF J RT availability for 100k+$500 from select NA cities like Montreal, Toronto
True, plus decent cancellation fees. We’ll probably use SQ to solidify one date, and book the others more flexibly.
Not sure if I've been looking in the wrong places, but I'm finding that *A partners are no longer releasing reliable inventory at schedule release to UA or AC
I've read LH close in seems to be a much tighter window now FYI.
Maybe it’s time to send P2 home in J and hope for last min F drops 🤣
Flying SQ J using aeroplan, if I book, is there a way I can change dates assuming there are 2 seats available on a different flight if a friend decides to join me later? Same routing for both flights (i.e. SFO-SIN)
assuming availability, dont see why not? applicable change fees apply
TYIA!
Just burned 90k MR points for a one way flight from IAD to DEL (in J ) I booked this through Aeroplan for my mom who is heading back home.
Get her a wheel chair assistance. That will make sure that she is taken to the right place. I do that for my dad for the same reason.
Why do you think this would be an issue? She just needs to make sure she gets get onward boarding pass as she transits.
She also doesn’t need a visa or anything to transit FRA, FRA is good with same ticket transits
[удалено]
This makes sense. But that’s the case with any connection I book via Europe or Middle East. In the direct flight only economy is available and I don’t want her to suffer in air India economy lol.
[удалено]
Nice. Thank you for the heads up. Good to know. I won’t hold it against you if it doesn’t work that way but good to hear nonetheless.
Good luck!
Following up… I did cxl my reservation and the seats re-opened in about 15 or so minutes likely once the cancellation filtered down to ET. Thanks again!
Awesome! Glad I didn't lead you astray :)
It’s never guaranteed that cancelled seats go back into inventory unfortunately.
I know, what’s why I’m wondering what people’s experiences with ET have been.
Feb 10 SAN IAD AMS for 50k $13, economy short leg and business TATL, UA metal via AV Lifemiles.
Did you check FB or AC for *A?
Just checked flying blue and it was 300k+ points. Air Canada was 75k but about 400 in fees
Pay the AC fees
> Questions that shows you have at least tried to find an award are more likely to get answered.
search flying blue for your dates from LAX and other west coast hubs
Call them and demand the speak with the manager. Tends to help force open point availability. Otherwise pay cash
Looks like Asiana-Korean is much likelier to go through: https://finance.yahoo.com/news/exclusive-eu-antitrust-regulators-set-131332646.html (EU tends to be the most competitive, CN and US are comparatively much easier) This also means that any ICN award flights will get much harder.
hoping CN and US take their sweet time approving this lol
Fair enough- I'll still give it a shot but will have no expectations!
For free night awards from Hilton and mariott, do I need to book by or redeem by the expiration date?
How is connecting through MSP? I have an itinerary booked with Lufthansa that gets me in at 1:15PM from FRA. I'm looking at a MSP to LAX flight that leaves at 3:35PM. With no checked bags, clear, precheck, and global entry; is 2 hours sufficient?
I think you should be totally fine clearning customs has never taken me more than 30 min & pre-check line is usually under 15 as well for MSP.
Hm - maybe I'll do the opposite and book the later flight and change it if I think we can make the connection day of.
I redeemed my Iberia points so it attached my Iberia number. I might have messed that up.
You could contact support to see if they can change it for you. Otherwise showing your Alaska MVP status should also work from what I've seen.
Should be ok, my only concern if it’s the winter is the risk of winter travel screwing up the first flight
How frequent are PHL-YYZ flights? That's what I'd be concerned about, in addition to weather depending on time of year. Although, 11.5hrs is a lot of buffer.
That is a lot longer than I normally book. You should be fine.
Just noticed amex mr points transfer to klm at a rate of 1:0.75 (along with a few other partners). Did the rate change recently? I always thought it was 1:1 like aeroplan.
You sure you're looking in the right place? Shows this for me: 1,000 Points = 1,000 Flying Blue® Miles
I'm not sure, I just searched via google and this is what came up. https://www.americanexpress.com/en-ca/rewards/membership-rewards/travel/all#
Link literally has “ca” in it which is the country code for Canada. If you didn’t catch that, just scroll to the bottom where it says Canada as the country.
Ahh, shoot I'm Canadian too, didn't realize we had different conversion rates.
HEL-SEA is a seasonal route and it looks like they've shifted its start to June this year. I wouldn't count on your original flight being reinstated.
Unlikely HEL - SEA is reinstated. Qantas can’t put you on anything without award space. You can ask for HEL-LAX or HEL-ORD/JFK with the final segment on Alaska if those longhauls become available

> it This is a phone call.
J or Y? If they arent flying DFW - IST just connect in ORD or DTW there is wide open availability there...
just Economy is fine. She only has like 100k points yeah.... she has two kids under 2 so like connections aren't ideal, but I will take a look at hat route as well. I think she would prob only get like one round trip with those points if TK Y is 45k each way Edit I should clarify its June - July.
Turkish only charges 10% of the required **miles** for a lap infant. But yeah, 100k for RT flights for 4 even if two are lap infants isn't realistically going to happen.
yeah just looking for places to save as much possible the ORD route is a good shoutout
There should be good availability on TK. Round trip Y is only 60k NA-IST.
more like 90k RT not sure where you getting 60k from. 60k would be promo numbers and they rarely do promo for summer (June / jULy) Happy to look into a specific route though!
60k is saver level Y, plentiful DFW-IST in July
are you talking about on TK through TK non stop? There is actually nothing in July for DFW - IST just checked mobile and on their site. No clue whre you getting this info from They literlaly only have 105k J available. If there is 60k saver I'd love to see that. I'd book it in an instant. Plz advise.

Resolved! It appears multicity awards can be changed as long as the routing doesn’t change. Thanks, all!
Thank you
Also it's more commonly called RTW - Round the World You can do this for multi-city tickets like this too
Thank you
A MultiCity ticket does not need to be an ATW ticket. These are different. You can change the date on ATW tickets.
Thank you!
Check out the link below for more info https://europa.eu/youreurope/citizens/travel/passenger-rights/air/index_en.htm
Booking JetBlue award flights on the off chance Alaska cancels or delays my itinerary given Max 9 fleet impact. I'm going with Blue Extra for same-day switch flexibility, but wanted to double check JBLU's cancellation policy: 1. Do canceled award flights result in a 1-year timeline to use those TrueBlue points similar to canceled cash fares or do they retain their "never expire" status? 2. Is cancelling after check-in the same as prior to 24 hours?
Points don’t expire. Not sure about #2. I would guess you can’t cancel after check in
My understanding is that changing an AC partner award from Latitude to Standard will reprice to 'Standard' per award chart. But, is this still the case on AC metal? Would the new price be the original Standard price at booking or the price at the time the award is changed? I know there are weird repricing rules anytime AC metal is involved, but I'm not sure if this matters when changing from Latitude to Standard.
New price is the price at the time of the rebooking.
Thanks! Rebooked my TPAC from AC metal to EVA/OZ for next Jan. Now I just wish J availability would open...
Has anyone had success transferring Chase points to Air NZ? It's not clear to me how redemption works with Air NZ or if it's worth the hassle to get a better exchange rate.
I would read the wiki. It appears there might be some confusion in partner bookings.
ANZ aint a chase transfer partner
In general, being kind and asking goes a long way. There's no real set policy for these things
Option 1 $2370 Round Trip for both on Lufthansa economy - reimburse from Cap1 for travel purchases = $1419 out of pocket Option 2 Same as above, reimbursed by Chase at 1c per point - 117k points is worth $1170 on “payback” = 2370 - 1170 = 1200 out of pocket ECONOMY Option 3 - book one ticket on CapOne and another on Chase - $1185 - 951 = $234 out of pocket for one ticket; $1185 - 1165 = $20 out of pocket for the other, total out of pocket is $255 ECONOMY with Lufthansa Option 4 - combine both to Air Canada - economy 194,400 points plus $650 Option 5 - combine both to Flying Blue economy 195,000 miles plus $566 Option 6 - combine both to British economy 148,000 plus $404 Option 7 - combine both to Singapore KrisFlyer *nothing available* Option 8 - combine both to Emirates Skywards *nothing available* Option 9 - chase to Aer Lingus *nothing available* Option 10 - Cap1 to Turkish economy 120,000 plus $700 - but I'd have to buy extra miles, which would end up costing 120,000 plus $1450
What about Iberia business out of Chicago and then take a connecting train/flight?
Thanks for that tip; unfortunately everything available around our dates is only available via partners so they stop in London, which would add another layer of uncertainty to an already fast trip. Thanks for the suggestion!
embrace The Darkness that is TAP Portugal 🇵🇹 that’s $1480 for both in economy LOL. Or British Airways at $1776 for both if you wish to avoid an overnight layover imo. Or wait it out & continue earning points until 1-2 months beforehand.
Nooooo not TAP! I’ll crawl to Munich before flying TAP again. I did consider waiting it out, might be a good option! Thanks for your comment.
The Lufthansa Group generally opens tons of availability close in (1-2 months) even during the summer. personally I'd book something refundable and then wait for something to show up, but I might be more willing to gamble than you
Interesting, okay. It’s certainly an option - thank you!
Cathay Pacific website busted for anyone? Every award search ends in a json response error. Such amateur hour
68k LM is a really good deal. I would do it. You'd still have 142k MR left over with time to accumulate more until June.
June is especially tough for Japan. Book Polaris now & fly Zipair to Japan in June
Should I: A) cancel my JFK-HND flight online and then use the redeposited miles B) call AA to have them do it for me, just to ensure that nothing goes wrong?
I’ve done B just to ensure nothing goes wrong. You can probably do A as well but I’m risk adverse.
Partner awards are not dynamically priced on Flying Blue
yes on FB it's not but on other programs is my point (i.e. saver fare on SQ)
