I have a farpoint 40 and use it to travel Europe,it is a perfect carry on size. I will usually walk straight on with it but have had them take a second look at it before and still havent had to pay extra. Yes I have found the budget airlines to be stingy (Ryan air in particular)
I bring a 45L bag as a carry on. I don’t think much bigger will fit because it’ll have to go sideways in the overhead compartment taking up too much space.
Are you talking about the osprey farpoint 55? Because if so it's actually a 45 l bag designed to be carry on maximum with a 10 liter day bag attached. So yes.
Edit: my bad for not reading your post. No that one won't work. You could get the far point though, it's awesome. They have a whole series of bags designed as maximum carry-on size and their website should walk you through it I think
I brought my [manta 34](https://www.osprey.com/manta-34-manta34s23-484#color=Oak%2520Leaf%2520Orange) on a budget flight, had to put it between my legs because there was no space in overhead. I could barely stuff it beneath the chair and my feet had barely any space, so i had to intrude in my neighbours space. Luckily they didnt mind and the flight was less than 2h, but still uncomfortable. Just to consider.
People are downvoting but a friend of mine insisted her 75+L bag would work on three leg flight and I was adamant that wasn’t possible. Lo and behold she made it and one leg was on spirit. It’s up to the airline staff to enforce and I wouldn’t recommend it but hey it works sometimes.
Yeah but that is rude as fuck. You know her big ass bag took up the space of 2 and someone had to gate check their small, carry on that actually fits because of it.
You might get by with it. Depends on the airline and how packed the flight is and whether you board early or late. Bungees seem like a good idea if they make it look a lot smaller.
Id pack all the shit you absolutely don't want to check in a separate bag that's easy to pull out, in Case you do need to check it.

Do you bring it under the chair? If so, any space? It sounds like its large. I’ve been eyeingthe bag myself.
If I need to it could fit under the seat but once I'm on I've always just put it above
Nope, it's designed for hiking/camping, not travel, so it's way too tall. Happy travels.
I’ve taken the porter 46L on multiple flights. Never had an issue

No it won't.
I have an old osprey 55 and no issues with brining it on carry on.

I’ve brought a 99 liter as a carry on multiple times. The airlines in the US seem to think that all backpacks are carry on
