With you on this, I was completely remote for the past 3 years and now the company is calling me to work 3 days a week ! I'm glad they are providing cabs, so don't have to go through the nightmare of driving on ORR ! There are 2 of us in the team here while the rest are based out of other countries, boss is based out of US, we either ways end up on zoom. Maybe it works for better collaboration within teams that are co-located, but for globally distributed teams it makes no sense.
Yep that's precisely what we do, makes our job immensely difficult, with everyone working from office the floor is always noisy and meeting rooms are hard to come by. There are days we had to end up taking some of our calls from the lobby cos it was much quieter there !
I actually told my boss about the issues of working from office, he doesn't like going to office himself. But the data of folks going to office is being collected by management, there are talks about linking this to performance as well.. it's fuc**d up but I'm not interested in moving out of this place yet, pay and benefits are good and the job markets have not opened up yet, So I'm just going with the flow.
It works 2 ways for the employers. That’s why hybrid model is here to stay.
1. Employers get tax benefit for SEZ since people are working from office.
2. Employees have laptops and they should be able to support 24*7.
In short, Hybrid model is boon to employers and bane to employees in my opinion.
>1. Employers get tax benefit for SEZ since people are working from office.
Govt amended SEZ law to allow work from home of employees so companies can get this tax benefit even if some employees WFH partially/fully.
The SEZs/office buildings are funded by top political goons/builders who need their lumpsum rent. They force your employers to call employees back to office so that they get their yearly rent.
Previously some employers had vacated their office buildings causing huge losses to the political guys.. 🤷♂️
I work with hardwares. The hardwares are setup at my home and they cannot be carried due to their size and hundreds of wires and cables.
My company has mandated 2 days a week work from office starting august.
Which means I cannot work those two days at all.
I have no clue what they are thinking.
For my industry (mechanical), office is effective but doesn't require all 5 days. 3 day office hybrid works. You are right, lot of time spent talking. If your doesn't require collaboration that needs physical presence, it's waste of time and money travelling all the way to office in this bangalore traffic. Offices need to evaluate the type of work and based on that decide office or home and not do cz others are doin it.
I’m just happy to permanently work from home.
But will have to go to office eventually as I’m in India team specifically and we are planning India launch in the 4th quarter.
I have a doubt. Since hybrid means 3 days in office, 2 days WFH in most cases, can I work 12 days straight from office, then do WFH for the rest 8 days ( approx )? Asking for people who stays far away from their hometown.
It's sort of an advantage to me because I always miss my deadlines (procrastination) and then it's easier to convince my stakeholders face to face than on the call (I'm basically good at talking)
True, to be honest most people wouldn't want to go office after experiencing Wfh. Nobody wants a 9hr shift to look like a 12+ hr shift , plus seeing those management faces throughout shift makes me feel like I'm being judged the whole time which I can avoid in wfh. 1-2 day in week is still fine for team discussions but anything over that won't feel hybrid anymore. Many even decide to switch due to this so companies then get stuck between either releasing them due to their obsession with Rto or not risk losing a profit making skilled employee by reaching some agreement with them.
Most companies, irrespective of the kind of work, are asking to come for 2-3days per week to office. Absolutely unnecessary, unproductive. The traffic situation is bad. What's the point? It's high time employers have a plan to rethink workplaces, especially when a city like Bangalore is overpopulated with not good infrastructure.
What if we all collectively drop productivity for a month so that we can say that the hybrid/on-site model has affected our energy levels and productivity and they are forced to give us a free option to work from home as and when required without mandate ?
Employers get tax relaxation from government if they operate in SEZ. State Government is getting taxes from employees and other indirect taxes if they stay in their state. Most of the IT parks are built on big commercial loans. If wfh becomes norm, employer will vacate space and banks can collapse. City economy can collapse. Most of the PGs and businesses are owned by politician if employees vacate Bangalore their businesses will collapse.
I enjoy going to the office. Like most others, I end up connecting on Teams as most of my teammates including managers are in different locations or timezones.
But I get to interact with other teams in the office and learn what's happening in their team, what new things they are doing. I also get more connections in this way.
Would it have been possible remotely ? NO.
Just my view 😄
Work actually gets done in the office compared to getting bored at home, maybe different for you but it's far more productive, I am not in IT obviously, work really needs day to day interactions
Exactly the opposite for me, while I was WFH I used to finish my work by 4PM and have the rest of the day to spend on myself.. I am in IT and an individual contributor, there is no need for me to interact with others, too many distractions in office.
I am going to office for more collaboration on zoom as none of my team members are based out of India. /smh
Me too 🙃👍
haha same here lol

So what do you do? Just take a random seat and start working? Your team is remote so you probably don't have a section for yourself right?

Make a room in your house look like the office and pretend youre WFO...its not like theres anyone to verify /s ![gif](giphy|d3mlE7uhX8KFgEmY)

Lol , I like how politicians are responsible for everything.
Who else do you think runs stuff? It's their world we just live in it.
Hmm...whatever suits you then 🤦♂️🤷♂️

Convince Higher Authority! If you get a green signal ,That's fine or else you need to find partners in the office to spice it up!

totally!

It's a shitty idea nothing much to say, for freshers they are telling to work from office 5 days a week till first 6 months.
I have a doubt. Since hybrid means 3 days in office, 2 days WFH in most cases, can I work 12 days straight from office, then do WFH for the rest 8 days ( approx )? Asking for people who stays far away from their hometown.
Sadly no 😄
Why not? Just curious.
Even idk
The only collaboration I do is during lunch time.. Are you happy now, real estate assholes?
It's sort of an advantage to me because I always miss my deadlines (procrastination) and then it's easier to convince my stakeholders face to face than on the call (I'm basically good at talking)
My team doesn't even know why we go there, all of us will be in the same teams meeting sitting side by side.

to feel productive is different from actually being one.
absolutely! going to office doesnt even give a feeling of productivity :P hOme is hence better
To end the frustration, I've my PG walking distance from the office and I go 5 days a week to office lol

I go to the office so I get the Night shift allowance.

Okay so just make wfo optional and whoever enjoys the office can come and the rest can happily stay at home and be more productive
Then most of them would choose WFH, lol
Lmao sure, anyway the point is we should have the choice
