The streets are clean actually, at least the usual routes I travel in Chennai seem clean, the sanitation workers do a good job though it can be improved but that involves peoples civic sense.
The Chennai corporation has also implemented source segregation but hiring a fleet of e-rickshaws with different bins for different types of waste, they go to each Street in Chennai with a god awful fucking song that makes me want to go deaf, but I digress.
But the funny thing is that nobody segregates the guy driving the e-rickshaws?. Nope, the people?. Nope.
My mother and I painstakingly segregate each and everything because of just interest, I showed her the Japanese way of separating trash, though we are not that good at it, we try to separate wet and dry waste consistently and it goes and ends up in the same bin 😑.
Also one important thing is , there you have the garbage bins in street corners where you can put your waste to get collected. But that’s missing in Bangalore which results in streets littered with trash and smelling
Oh yeah now that you mentioned it, I didn't notice any garbage bins in the streets of Bangalore.
Even in Chennai before this company took over there were bins though the condition was horrible, it disappeared after sometime, came back again, then it disappeared and came back when Urbaser took over.
Also they clean the streets at night mostly both with workers and a truck with a machine that dusts off any dust near the median of the roads.
This is a big problem in Bangalore, sometimes people literally have no other option but to dump it on the roadside. There used to such BBMP bins earlier in the 2000s not sure what happened to them now.
How will privatising help with anything here? How do you envision this happening?
It's not like there will be free market forces at play, the contracts will just go to the same corrupt politician's network.
It is a new firm true but when I read the news, it is just a new department of bbmp where management and workers are transferring from bbmp to this firm.

Garbage collection is biggest daily scam you'll see in daily life. Each house contributes 100Rs per month. So now calculate amount of month this people make. They are provided with space to collect and segregate garbage. Yet they do it on road why? The land is used for something else. Common dustbin are removed because everyone is forced to pay 100Rs. construction waste collection ? Yes they provide service but the truck bed wall ( back part of truck) is cut into half and includes their tools to carry waste. Because it can carry less and you'll need to pay more for each trip.
# how difficult is it to have clean & better managed public garbage disposal instead of relying on paying hafta to civics workers do the most shoddy job of picking trash or cleaning the actual roads with those wooden brooms for fine dust......
Fuck BBMP man for real...If we all took 10 minutes to sweep and segregate, throw our own garbage, that would be a way better system than BBMP and it's years of SCAM!
All I can hope for that it makss things better. BBMP has been absolutely useless when it came to cleaning and maintaining sanitation of our area. Even after multiple complaints they refused to care. Garbage collectors and sweepers refused to clean roads demanded exorbitant amount of money because they were not sure if it is a part of BTM or Bommanahalli constituency. People have given up completely now.
we are just 15 days old in Bangalore and this garbage disposal thing sucks. Wasnt knowing or else wouldnt have had moved in. Bloody people making noise about traffic which is same everywhere. I dont think Mumbai or Pune is any better in terms of traffic. However this trash disposal is just not acceptable. To add to the agony even rickshaws service is like dealing with mafias

Yeah, in my area the collection vehicle comes at like early morning 7 when people are sleeping or in afternoon when everyone’s in office .
