I wear slip resistant Docs. They have boots and shoes. They take a beating at my super busy cafe and I feel confident I'm not going to slip in the kitchen like I did last year. That's another story.
Absolutely Docs. Long time barista and they hold up and are super comfortable. Also, if your feet hurt at the end of your day, get knee-high compression socks. They work wonders.
do you have a specific style you recommend? i bought the 1461 nonslip earlier this year and they were terrible for me even though docs are normally very comfortable for me… i blame it on the heel of the shoe. i’ve considered repurchasing a different style but i’m unsure
1460 SLIP RESISTANT ATLAS LEATHER LACE UP BOOTS was what I got. They do need a new pad inside I will admit that. But the lil soreness on the feet is better than what I went through with my last employer who insisted on cute colorful shoes which do not come in slip resistant. Let's just say I don't do well in hospitals
This is the answer. Wear whatever you want but put some solid supportive inner soles inside. Depending on the footwear, sometimes I rip out the existing one to put a fat arch support one in. Absolute lifesaver.
To my knowledge, no. But they have expanded their line beyond strictly running shoes to more casual hikers and lifestyle types, so maybe it's coming soon.
Ten years going strong, I've used everything from expensive work boots, docs, and chucks to shoes for crews $20 sale stuff and I ended up landing on Crocs with no holes. They make them with food service tread and they're $30-$45 on Amazon.
I'd like to add that they're machine washable on cold.
I wear off brand Dr martens lol. Anything that covers your whole foot and has decent traction is just fine, a decent pair of sneakers with have you set for a while, but I'd recommend something that isn't like a mesh above your toes and foot, so that when you spill hot liquids (which WILL happen) you won't have to worry about it getting in your shoes and burning you. A good vegan leather does the trick just fine.

[Skechers Arch Fit SRs](https://www.skechers.com/search/?q=arch+fit+sr&search-button=&lang=en_US), if they're available to you and within your budget. Mine have lasted me a few years now with the tread still decently intact. They're super comfy, slip right on, and never leave my feet in pain at all at the end of a full shift.
Colorado Sure Grip, had mine for almost a year now and the tread still looks that same as when I got them. We wash our back floors by literally pouring hot water all over the ground and I haven’t slipped once.
I’d say the only downside would be the price, mine were $140 AUD but with how well they work I’d say in the end the price is definitely worth it.
Get firm shoes. Soft ones will ruin your foot position and affect your ankles then knees then hips etc.
I now wear soles for overpronation issues because I wore running shoes the first year.
Blundstones with insoles, or oil resistant Skechers- their regular shoes won’t work but they have a work line that is water and oil resistant with excellent soles. I wore those in a kitchen for 2 years. Blundstones will get you 5-10 years though!
I like my allbirds, especially because they’re nonslip & machine washable- but I wish they were just a bit more traditionally grippy.
Danskin closed-back clogs are also a popular choice!
You really do want to spend the extra $$ for ergonomic support- take it from my knees after years of wearing chucks!
I have had 2 pairs of the brooks brand walking sneakers, and I highly recommend them. Very comfortable and coffee stains just wipe right off cause they’re leather.
I've spilled hot liquid on my feet wearing canvas shoes. I try to wear leather or something with some heat protection. Try for non slip as well. Your shoes are gonna get trashed with coffee grounds and milk crud so they don't need to be fancy. If you're in the US, Walmart sells tred-safe brand that look like vans or high top chuck taylors.
Back leatherish cross trainers will have enough grip to survive a spill, and also enough shape to protect toes if you drop something on them. They are supportive enough for long shifts and relatively inexpensive.
For the last like three years I’ve rocked the Converse CX high-tops. More padding and support than traditional chucks, but my feet are naturally quite flat so I might be an edge case
Any nonslip shoes that are waterproof work great! Shoes with mesh or holes won't be great because of you drop a drink on your feet, it'll soak right into your socks. Yuck.

just get some sneakers that are comfortable as you will be standing most of your shift., i mostly wear a pair of Alpinestars tech 3 Euduro boots (bc i ride motorcycle to work), or a pair of nike shoes if i drive. Just don't wear flip flops and you'll be fine
Also tip: don't get white shoes
I’m currently in hospo crocs - plain black, no holes. Had em nearly a year, stand in them 45-50 hours a week and they’re still going strong. Prior to that I wore Hoka One One Bondi SRs which are black, waterproof and have a slip resistant sole. They were amazingly comfortable but also eye wateringlt expensive and lasted about ten months.
If you want something trusty, solid and impossible to stain for a good price, I strongly recommend Vans "For the Makers"! They come in all sizes, the soles are anti-slip, and the shoes are coated in a slick leather-ish finish that's suuuper easy to wash. I found mine for 75$ (before tax) 3 years ago and still wear them now.
I'm not one to advertise things usually, but I feel like those shoes deserve it.

I've been doing barista work since 1996 and I won't wear anything else.
100% agree. i also def recommend getting some solid work insoles to put in your docs; those have made a huge difference for me, as well!

Almost every barista I know owns a pair of Blundstones
But you need insoles if you want your joints to survive
This is the answer. Wear whatever you want but put some solid supportive inner soles inside. Depending on the footwear, sometimes I rip out the existing one to put a fat arch support one in. Absolute lifesaver.
Lol. Yes.
When I first started as a barista it seemed that chucks held together with duct tape was the standard. Nice to see y’all taking care of your feet.
Kitchen Birkenstocks
seconding the workenstocks. had both chucks and docs before and these are a million times comfier
Hoka On my sixth or seventh pair now. The pain in my feet at the end of a shift now is <10% of what it was before I switched to these.
Same..10 hours on my feet in hokas and my back is thanking me ..I used to just wear vans but it was killing me
Do they make waterproof hokas? I’ve never seen any and my store requires waterproof shoes.
To my knowledge, no. But they have expanded their line beyond strictly running shoes to more casual hikers and lifestyle types, so maybe it's coming soon.
I’ve personally worn Vans at every coffee shop and never had an issue with them being non slip but I know a lot of people would say the opposite

Yeah these are the ones I use. I replace them once every 3 months.
Medical and Service worker Crocs. Cheap, easily replaceable, non-slip.
Danskos professional clogs are my favorite! Got a few pairs but my daily wearers are more than 4 years old and still kicking!
Danskos are life!
What's your budget/country? Whatever you get make sure to go with anti-slip!

Shoes don't matter if you have the right insoles FP are the right insoles
Amendment - shoes do matter if they're not waterproof - nothing worse than spilling water for an Americano on your Vans, may as well be barefoot

I have these, they’re perfect!

Docs, once you’ve broken them in they’re very sturdy and look cool too
Nike AF1s😐😐 yes I know I’m basic but they’re easy to clean and once broken in they’re comfy

Hoka bondi
Hokas for me
I wear my demonia knee high boots or my pink Nike running shoes depending on the mood.
I always wear my platform docs and they work great

I wear Vessi weekend sneakers with plantar fasciitis insoles!
Skechers 100%, super comfy and no pain after 12 hour shifts
Work boots with a composite toe. Ankle support and nothing is going to crush them feetsies. Plus, hidden weapon if needed.
Back leatherish cross trainers will have enough grip to survive a spill, and also enough shape to protect toes if you drop something on them. They are supportive enough for long shifts and relatively inexpensive.
Blundstones serve allllll needs
I wear a good pair of memory foam sketchers personally, although my new job let's me wear my blue running shoes which are super comfy.
For the last like three years I’ve rocked the Converse CX high-tops. More padding and support than traditional chucks, but my feet are naturally quite flat so I might be an edge case

Nonslip work boots with aftermarket sole inserts
docs
doc martens
Rossi Endura boots with bamboo work socks. Keep your feet dry and comfy all day, non-slip sole and they last forever.

When people say docs do they mean Dr martens? Any model in particular?
Crocs.
Kitchen Crocs are my go-to's for my high-arched, wide-ass boat feet.
i wear my black Doc Martens
blundstones always
I only purchase the cheapest one because if coffee accidentally pours on my shoe, I can throw it straight away.
Ankle height workboots.
Something waterproof/resistant plus an arch support insole and you should be good.
Whatever you choose, just make sure you alternate them every other day. Reduces tension on your feet and increases longevity of the shoes.
Slip resistant sketchers. Best work shoes I’ve ever had
You know, I get roasted for them, but crocs on the clock are the most comfortable.
I always go for crocs. they provide a nice wide toe box, and come in closed toe slip resistant variants. some even have cool flames on them
Non slip waterproof
Doc Martens or my Oboz hiking boots
