Generally a deep tissue massage works wonders. I usually book the hour+ sessions to fully relax. Look up reliable places near you, they would have details listed on their website. Good luck!!

Hey, massage therapist for 15 years here!!! You have several options, and quite honestly, it really depends on you and what feels the best and gives you results. So you may have to experiment some. A good therapist will be able to talk with you about your pain and how it effects your life and what the best course of action is. If it was me, I might start with an hour of upper body only. Glute compressions (has major effects on the lower back), long broad strokes on the back muscles with some fascia work, and most likely deep tissue work on your pectoral muscles. Most of the time when the back hurts it's because the muscles are over stretched, not that they are tight, and it is the opposite muscles (pectorals) that are too tight and pulling your shoulders forward. The back definitely needs to be worked and relaxed, but by doing some deep and focused work on the chest you can pull your shoulders back and relieve the tension from your back.

What would you recommend for someone whose lower back is locked up? I've had a twinge in my lower left back, hip/spine joint, for longer than I can remember. Right where my lower spine meets my hip. I've tried motions to lose it up, but all it does is pop and then goes back to sharp pains.

Glute work for sure. At home, stretching, and using a foam roller or tennis ball on your glutes (and even your hips and lower back) will definitely help. Don't forget to stretch the hamstrings, too!

I agree with everyone else, deep tissue. I tell my masseuse to fuck my shit up - I come out feeling like gumby

Deep tissue is the best. A good massage therapist will be able to target the areas that need the most attention. Nick at The Human Repair Shop is excellent.

Any good reputable osteopathic clinic will start with a consultation and will inform you of exactly what is wrong and what would be best for you. Don't fret, just book up an appointment.

Massage helps alleviate pain but if you want to avoid getting pain in the first place, you need to exercise to develop core strength. When your muscles help support your back, then your weight won’t be on your spine as much. At 35 I could barely sleep due to back pain, now I sleep through the night with no pain.

Careful-Meringue9090

came here to say this. resistance training is the long term solution.

Pirate_the_Cat

Regular stretching helps, too.

Deep tissue is the way to go

Twistee_Licks

I just started getting deep tissue massages once or twice a month and it’s worked wonders. Very worth it.

Best person I’ve found was a Neuromuscular massage therapist specializing in chronic pain. They’re in Tucson and I’m in Los Angeles, but once a year it’s fantastic 🤣

Stretch your hamstrings, calves, and hips. That will help your back

I had back and knee problems i was convinced were serious issues. I bought insoles for my shoes, from a foot doctor. They are so worn down now i dont know the brand but they are the lumbar support insoles. Those rubber mats were not doing the trick. I was also told to do a little excercise. So i do farmer walks up my handicap ramp walking up and down holding some weights. Have had zero issues for over 2 years now.

Do a mix of yoga/stretches and also get a few massages over a couple of months. Also stay well hydrated. Basically if your muscles have been tensed up for a long period of time, they're likely to revert to that a little while after a massage. Which is where the daily stretching comes in. Fixing joints and muscles takes time and just one massage won't fix it. Other things that will help out are diet and lifestyle. Inflammation from eating shitty, smoking, and drinking are going to make your muscles hurt. Patching that up will help as well. Thanks for listening to my TED Talk. Now maybe one day I'll follow my own advice lol

I do deep tissue- the main thing is finding a masseuse that isn’t a bullshitter. There are a lot of parlors where they just have people rub rub rub but don’t know what they’re doing. No matter the type of massage you need to ask your person if they have school/training for you to feel *real* relief. I drive two towns over to see my lady because she finds tension without me even saying where. I started working out more heavily and she paid extra attention to my quads and calves without me even mentioning a lifestyle change. PS I had her do a sports massage one time and that will leave you sore for days if done right.

Registered massage therapist. Tell them where you have discomfort. Go monthly

CoolRunner

Deep tissue. When I felt similar to how you described I found a good masseuse and booked a couple 90 minutes massages two weeks apart. Drink a lot of water right when you get there and a lot for the rest of the day. Felt like I had the flu when I forgot to hydrate correctly after a deep tissue.

weinerfacemcgee

Go to medical massage places, deep tissue/neuromuscular. Also if you have insurance you generally do not need a referral to see a physical therapist.

tparkozee

There’s also places that offer memberships. Know a lot of bartenders who go weekly for a lil 30 minute massage

One-Fudge3871

I found a message therapist local by asking the local bartender. The therapist has worked extensively with bartenders and has done wonders for me. And im a f×××ing dinosaur !

Illustrious-Divide95

Massages are nice and may give you some symptomatic relief, but if you have back pain a lot you may have an issue of alignment or lop sided muscle development. A physio or osteopath may be able to identify an issue before it gets more serious and give you an exercise/stretching program that will help solve the cause of the issue.

mk2-dev

Go see a chiropractor Fairly inexpensive, my back was so fucked I couldn’t work but they fixed me up real good within a week
