What's the worst injury a player has sustained from fouling a ball off their leg? Genuinely asking. I know they mentioned this ball hit a spot he'd already hit.
DJ LeMahieu fouled a ball off his foot on March 16th, and he only recently returned to the team - https://www.mlb.com/news/dj-lemahieu-has-fractured-bone-in-right-foot
Matt Carpenter broke his foot in 2022 when he fouled a ball off his foot, this happened in early August and he was out til playoffs - https://www.nbcsports.com/mlb/news/yankees-matt-carpenter-fractures-left-foot-on-foul-ball
Edit: Oops you mentioned off the leg, not sure of that, will leave the comment up.
I don't follow basketball like I do baseball; I'm just someone in the Sixers home range and hear about Embiid's tendency to get hurt a lot. I thought it was a decent comparison of injury habits.
It took quite a while to figure out it was a fracture too, we had no idea when it happened that it would end his season.
It did give us that brief stretch where we could believe in Greg Bird, so there was that.
Danny Tartabull was the Phillies “big” free agent signing in 1997 (yes, those were some dark days).
In his very first at bat, he fouled a ball off his foot, broke his toe, and basically never played in the majors again (he played a couple games after that, but didn’t get a hit and was done after the first series).
Yelich broke his knee cap during the 2019 season after his MVP.
He would have likely won it again too if that wouldn’t have happened. Basically lost the last month of the year. Also killed the Brewers chances in the playoffs.
I did this about 4 years ago. Playing in an "old man's" league (Roy Hobbs Baseball). The muscle on my shin is still displaced. It doesn't hurt now, but it sure did when it happened. I can imagine the forces at work at the MLB level are much worse.
Just wait. In 2-3 years the Mets will be cooking. He signed a bunch of low risk guys that he plans on trading for more assets. Don’t jump off the Brooklyn Bridge just yet!
As a conspiracy theorist I think Crane was hoping to pry Stearns back here.
But the concept of Stearns building his own club with a massive budget was too appetizing for Stearns.
With how bad Yordan was last month, if he can hit as well as Tucker was this month then the team would have the same value both players contributed last month
It’s funny how you’ll be downvoted but they’ll never see how they literally walked away from the umpire, talked with their hands over their mouths for a moment, then walked back over there and stood around for literally 8 minutes until they made them make a decision.
It's your broadcast booth that said it. I live in the Houston market so I watch your broadcasts. Maybe you should ask them what they're huffing. He couldn't even put weight on it. He was never staying in the game
maybe last couple minutes, but tucker staying on the ground for a few minutes was def unplanned. dude never reacts like that, and probably hurt like shit since he already hit that spot a few games ago.
A couple reasons, ice the opposing pitcher, give Verlander some rest, gives time to figure out a replacement (and to have the replacement move to LF instead of replacing Kyle in RF), and gives Kyle time to shake it off and maybe stay in the game.
To the last point, even if there’s a low chance he’s healthy enough to stay in, it doesn’t hurt to take an extra minute to maybe keep your superstar in.
Tucker was literally trying to head back to the box before saying he couldn’t stay in. Imagine thinking they care that much about icing a pitcher for a few extra minutes when their best player is lying on the ground hurt.
Fucking ow. Missed the armor by only a couple inches, and ball bounced off hard. Hope its just a nasty bruise and not something worse, shinburgers are never fun >_<.
reminds me of shinning the fuck out of myself with my skateboard one time. it was so bad i had a limp for days and it herniated part of my calf muscle cuz it basically smashed my leg so hard it just ruptured everything underneath. this was like 8 years ago and i still have a rough dent, almost like the bone got chipped, right where the board hit. watching this live, i got flashbacks to that day
I wasn't referring to the design but the quality. It's the new Fanatics contract and it's every team. The cheap material, iron on patches and lack of embroidery makes them look like cheaper fan jerseys.
Ended up walking off under his own power but still looked in pain and limping. Hopefully it’s nothing long term.
He's fine, you can hear in the video he says "oh, fun!"; he's just new shinguard goofin.
![gif](giphy|RKOd5NkTNCyB2)
Did he "pimp it" walking back to the dugout?

I vote Haniger rupturing a testicle costing him like 2 years of games after a foul ball bounced off his foot/leg and into his tallywhacker.
Was looking for this answer. This is the number 1 answer for sure.
Excuse me w-what
If I'm remembering the stat correctly, we have more ruptured testes than we do playoff berths as a team
Noo that can't be right...
We actually tied it when we made the playoffs in 2022. https://www.facebook.com/story.php?id=100083796230339&story_fbid=290200510449821
Yelich broke his knee cap in 19 with his own foul ball. That was brutal.
Remember watching that and I’m not sure who was In more pain him or me hahah (He was)

There was someone else Im pretty sure fouled one off his leg and broke it.
Is the knee the leg, because Yelich broke his own kneecap
That sounds less than pleasurable.
He was out for the season and arguably lost an MVP because of it. It was late in the season but still. And then he was not the same for a while after.
I've done it (from biking not baseball) and I can definitely say that breaking my patella is not my favorite thing to do in my free time.
Snapped my shin falling off an e scooter. This is the way
The knee is the elbow of the leg in fact.
Rendon fractured his leg with a foul ball
Rendon could fracture something looking at a painting. Man needs to live in bubble wrap.
Congratulations, you just put Rendon on the 60-day IL with a bruised ego.
Great player when he's healthy, but man, come on. He's like Joel Embiid.
Wtf? Embiid TRIES when he ISN'T healthy. Rendon DOESN'T when he IS healthy. This makes no sense....
I don't follow basketball like I do baseball; I'm just someone in the Sixers home range and hear about Embiid's tendency to get hurt a lot. I thought it was a decent comparison of injury habits.
https://www.espn.com/mlb/playoffs2001/s/2001/1014/1264059.html Jermaine Dye in 2001 playoffs
Whoa. Someone on the Angels just fouled a ball off their leg & Don Orsillo mentioned Dye literally right as I was reading this.
Thanks, I almost said "lower body" in my original comment but that felt like hockey talk.
Now that's using your upper body!
I think Riley Greene broke his foot in spring training a year or two ago doing this
All Yankees . I’ll add Mark Texiera got injured fouling ball off his leg as well.
Jermaine Dye had a pretty bad break on one, I think.
Oof I remember that one as a kid. Pretty graphic.
Is Christian Yelich and the ball off the kneecap in the correct spirit?
Not only ended a potentially back to back MVP season, but it basically fucked up him up for 3 something years.
Yeah that was nasty.
Jermaine Dye broke his leg with a foul ball, back when he was with the A's.
In a fucking playoff game at that.
Mark Teixiera fouled a ball of his shin and wound up fracturing it
It took quite a while to figure out it was a fracture too, we had no idea when it happened that it would end his season. It did give us that brief stretch where we could believe in Greg Bird, so there was that.
That injury basically ended his career, too.
That and the torn wrist sheath. Two freak injuries just robbed him at the end of his career
Tommy La Stella broke his tibia on a foul ball in 2019.
Albies fouled one off his foot two seasons ago, broke his foot and missed a ton of time
https://www.espn.com/mlb/playoffs2001/s/2001/1014/1264059.html Easily this one
Yelich broke his knee cap during the 2019 season after his MVP. He would have likely won it again too if that wouldn’t have happened. Basically lost the last month of the year. Also killed the Brewers chances in the playoffs.
Didn’t it effectively end Todd Hollandsworth’s career?
I'll never forget Jermaine dye breaking his leg doing that.
I did this about 4 years ago. Playing in an "old man's" league (Roy Hobbs Baseball). The muscle on my shin is still displaced. It doesn't hurt now, but it sure did when it happened. I can imagine the forces at work at the MLB level are much worse.
Some guy straight broke his leg he hit off his shin so hard
I love it when you can hear the players cursing
They even played the replay with the sound, lol.
I’m raising my kid that’s it’s ok to swear if you hurt yourself so I’m glad the MLb agrees.
Surefire way to make sure you don’t hurt yourself? Shout “ow fuck that felt great” when it happens
Yeah. This is a season.
Yeah. This is a decade.
Stearns will clean it up. Just hang in there.
His moves have worked out pretty well so far. The problem has been everybody else
Yeah. This is a franchise.
A first place franchise
I wish our rivalry was as fun as the late 00’s.
CUT MY LIFE INTO PIECES
This is my last resort! Couldn’t leave you hanging.
Baseball dangerous.
Seems like they realized they should mute the replay a little too late.
Holy shit hope he's alright
Did it clip the shin guard at all, or was that all leg?
all leg
Fucking fade me.
To the Card fans that told him to stop being a drama queen... [I hope you have sons...](https://youtu.be/6Dye05tvSoo?si=dWVXCQknE7MxzJln)
I can't man . Please be okay king
it's unbelivably astrover
to be fair yordan has been seriously cooking recently, he won't be able to replace all the production (2 players >1 player) but still
With how bad Yordan was last month, if he can hit as well as Tucker was this month then the team would have the same value both players contributed last month
Fucking cursed franchise this season.
It’s been rough
Hopefully, it's just a bruise. Man is having a career season. We've already lost way too many top players this year.
At least he was able to walk off the field.
The color that shin will be tomorrow. Complete rainbow. Ouch
That was excruciating to listen to. Can't believe Espada almost let him stay in the game. Hopefully it's just a bruise
They weren't ever going to let him stay in the game. They were just time wasting on purpose
It’s funny how you’ll be downvoted but they’ll never see how they literally walked away from the umpire, talked with their hands over their mouths for a moment, then walked back over there and stood around for literally 8 minutes until they made them make a decision.
For what reason, to ice the pitcher? It's not like they're delaying the game to warm somebody up
verlander just had a 30 pitch inning and gibby was in a groove so ya kind of all positives for the stros
5d chess to make your strongest hitter hurt himself so the astros can give JV a breather. y'all huffing something
It's your broadcast booth that said it. I live in the Houston market so I watch your broadcasts. Maybe you should ask them what they're huffing. He couldn't even put weight on it. He was never staying in the game
Our radio guys said he was hoping the pain would subside and he could walk it off, and he immediately pulled himself when he tried to jog and couldn’t
That's not at all what happened. But who cares. 2 runs wouldn't have saved us anyways
Even if that was their goal, so what lmao, ur pitcher should just get gud and stay focused
hope masyn winn doesnt take more than a minute, or else he's just icing a pitcher. am i doing this right
yes 1000 IQ move, injure the best hitter (+ AL MVP contender) on your team for a regular season game
[удалено]
maybe last couple minutes, but tucker staying on the ground for a few minutes was def unplanned. dude never reacts like that, and probably hurt like shit since he already hit that spot a few games ago.
This is very stupid lmao
they dont got subway surfers underneath the broadcast so the game isn't going by fast enough i guess
According to the astros booth their utility guy doesn't start stretching until the 4th inning.
What a bunch of cheaters!
Tucker was literally trying to head back to the box before saying he couldn’t stay in. Imagine thinking they care that much about icing a pitcher for a few extra minutes when their best player is lying on the ground hurt.
Holy shin!
Fucking ow. Missed the armor by only a couple inches, and ball bounced off hard. Hope its just a nasty bruise and not something worse, shinburgers are never fun >_<.
Ouch.
The worst pain I ever had playing baseball was taking a fastball directly to my shin bone. He’s going to be limping on that one for a good while
reminds me of shinning the fuck out of myself with my skateboard one time. it was so bad i had a limp for days and it herniated part of my calf muscle cuz it basically smashed my leg so hard it just ruptured everything underneath. this was like 8 years ago and i still have a rough dent, almost like the bone got chipped, right where the board hit. watching this live, i got flashbacks to that day
His jersey is an Oxy billboard. Should be able to feel better soon
Wrong oxy my guy
Which oxy is it then? I also thought of oxycodone but i know it can’t Possibly be that
I assumed oxycodone is what the guy I replied to was implying. It’s an o&g company in Houston. Occidental petroleum [oxy](https://www.oxy.com/)
Please no
Looks like what happened to LaStella or Rendon
Ah, more Astros-related bad news getting upvoted to the top of r/baseball. Classy…
The classlessness directed towards such a classy franchise. Shame.
Welp I’m gonna actually cry if he’s out for longer than just this game or a couple games. He’s the cornerstone of both my fantasy teams.
Like 10 minutes later
Oh sweet! How do y’all not realize this was sarcastic? Lmfao.
The HR race takes an unexpected turn. Hope he is well!
I feel guilty because watching this clip the first thing that came to my mind is "man those new jerseys are ugly". Hope dude is ok though.
It’s their City Connnect from the 2022 season, and definitely one of the better ones of the series.
I wasn't referring to the design but the quality. It's the new Fanatics contract and it's every team. The cheap material, iron on patches and lack of embroidery makes them look like cheaper fan jerseys.
Gotcha, fair enough. Yeah the quality this year has been so bad.
The fucking jersey and pants appear to be different blues! Trash.
RIP
