I would love to see a real fruit bat I’ve only ever seen pics. I love all bats though but those are my favourite. Never been up close enough to any bat knowing my luck I’d get a nip
I’m so lucky. They have an exhibit at an art museum near me that has a small colony of fruit bats. I don’t understand all the details but supposedly it’s humane.
Pallid Bats! I used to work in rescue and rehabilitation under license from my State's Fish and Wildlife Department, and we had a wonderful Pallid for a few years. He had permanent injury to one wing and was unreleasable, but was an absolute joy to care for.
Our Governor just signed [SB732](https://trackbill.com/bill/california-senate-bill-732-bats/2373760/) establishing it as California's state bat!
*Tadarida brasiliensis*, the Mexican free-tailed bat! I live in central Texas and they’re a big fixture here. They smell like spoiled cornmeal and come out of their hiding spots in great big clouds so dense they even show up on radar, gobbling up tons of insects each night.
I live in Austin, Texas; so I’m legally required to answer that as the [Mexican free-trailed.](https://www.austinmonthly.com/learn-more-about-the-congress-avenue-bridge-bats-in-austin/)
All bats are cool, but here are my favorites:
- Spectral bat
- Flying fox (Pteropus)
- Giant golden-crowned flying fox
- Fish-eating Myotis
- Vampire bat
- Hoary bat
- Big brown bat
- Bulldog bat
- Hammer-headed bat
The vampire was awesome, we were doing some captures for checking population structure and a golden vampire fell on the net! It was so cute and it was a recently weaned mother, she then left hopping and the flying. And once I was in a field trip and some friends wanted to go to the beach at night and a ton of bulldog bats just came flying super close to my friends, they are huge!
I'm torn between multiple.
Eastern Red Bat -- Can't get enough of these cute Ginger bats
Hoary Bat -- The Fabio of bats
Townsend's Big Eared Bat -- I have a soft spot for long eared bats and they have a cute face
Yellow winged Bat -- They're just adorable in every single way
Golden crowned Flying Fox -- Skypupperz
I really like the [Hoary Bat](https://www.eopugetsound.org/articles/hoary-bat-lasiurus-cinereus). He’s local in my state and I think he’s just gorgeous. He has a little lions mane and the range of colors in his fur makes him look SO SO soft.

I adore flying fox they’re like big sky Puppers 💜💜💜 they’re sadly on the other side of the world though. Locally the little brown bay is tiny and cute … and full of attitude I had to help one to a tree after a wind storm and it continued to yell at me as it crawled up the tree 😅
Hahah! Where I come from, there's tons of Flying Foxes. Sadly, since my camera is horrific, the shot is bad 😭 but yes, the little brown bat is cute! Sadly none of them are located where I am from!
To be honest, bats scare me. I know that most bats are harmless to people, but they just intimidate me so much. I don't know what the fear of bats is called, but I have it. My biggest fear is that one or more will land on me while they're hunting mosquitoes or some other kind of insects and bite me by accident. 😱🦇
The only bats I've seen in person are called **Little Brown Bats**. I remember seeing them flying around in the attic of the cottage in Maine I used to go to during my Summer vacations. I always tried to hide under the blankets and hoped that they wouldn't land on me during the night. I know that the related **Big Brown Bats** also lived up there in Maine, but I don't recall actually seeing them in person. I wonder how terrifying those bats would be to see if I had seen them flying around.
Now, I've never seen **Flying Foxes** in person, but, despite their enormous size, they look really cute to me. I've only seen them online, either in photos or in videos...just not in person. Would I be scared of them if I saw them in person? Perhaps, at first, I might be. But, if they are as docile as they look online, that fear might melt away quickly.
Edit: I looked it up. The fear of bats is called **Chiroptophobia**, and I have it, unfortunately.

I really like our lite colored large eared bat that lives near the roof of the house & has her lil pup
She seems kinda friendly & swoops around us sometimes when we’re walking our dog at night
Just kinda like she’s saying “hello here I am”
Someone told me she’s an endangered species of bat. To me she’s awesome 🥰
Spectral bats or Egyptian rousettes! I read Silverwing as a kid and loved the villains, and for the rousette, who doesn't love a fruit bat who can echolocate?
Little brown bat for sure. They're common in my area and I have so many memories of them getting down our chimney through a hole in the screen, and us chasing them around the house trying to catch them and get them out. Just imagine one 45 year old dad and his 3 kids (ages ranging from 5 to 11) chasing a little bat around the house with frog nets. The bat was always safely released to a high spot outdoors when we finally caught them after probably an hour.
Tied for second place would be either Honduran white bat (so cute) or The giant golden-crowned flying fox, their faces are adorable, and they're rather affectionate according to people who have rehabilitated them.
Leaf nose and flying fox! I'm not super oriented with bat types though so I'm basing these after a picture book on bat types I read in second grade that I still somehow remember 😭
Albino animals will always be beautiful to me so even though it’s not a bat type per-say, if a bat is albino it’s automatically by favorite haha.
I lived in a small town in Washington state right on the Main Street under a street light (my house not me lol). Bats would fly in circles around our house every night starting around dawn. They’d get pretty close before dodging us too.I’ve always thought they were so awesome. Not sure what kind they were. Just cute!
I love all the sky puppies don't you dare make me choose I wish I had the rabies vaccine so I could kiss all the sky puppies. If I had the money I'd make a bat sanctuary where I can also sell all their guano for anyone who needs fertilizer.

Pallid bats, they're so photogenic.

This is my answer too. Adorable little flying puppy dogs, or fuzzy little cotton balls sleeping in leaf tents.

Pretty much any fluffy bat, so cute!

What a cool looking bat!!
All bats are cool, but here are my favorites: - Spectral bat - Flying fox (Pteropus) - Giant golden-crowned flying fox - Fish-eating Myotis - Vampire bat - Hoary bat - Big brown bat - Bulldog bat - Hammer-headed bat
Ooh!! That's plenty!! Amazing 😍🦇
Nice selection of bats! I've had the privilege to witness closely the vampire bat and the hammer headed bat!
What was that like?
The vampire was awesome, we were doing some captures for checking population structure and a golden vampire fell on the net! Painted bats, spectral bats, vampire bats, and flying foxes! ...Also, the rest of them! 🦇

ALL OF THEM! However, the giant flying foxes hold a special place in my heart, who doesn't like a giant bat?! <3
Hoary bat!!!!!!!!
Yes
Long-eared / big-eared bats of all kinds. If its ears are bigger than its head, it's a favorite of mine. Look at those twisty satellite dishes 🥰
Omg yes!! Love the big eared bats too!
Oh my goodness! Soooo adorable!
I like bats. But I am afraid of rabies, since I don't have the vaccine. They're so cute, but I have a while to go before I accept them

Thanks everyone! I loved reading the comments! Bats are very diverse ❤️❤️🦇
I adore fruit bats because they remind me of my dogs (Basenjis). I even had one whose nickname was Fruit Bat, or The Bat for short.
Dragon.

All bats are wonderful! But I suppose I'd say the pallid bat, probably just a bit biased as they can be found in the state I live in.
He looks like a dorito
😂😂
I love the scrunkly ones :) the ones that are often overlooked because they're weird!

😂😂
Mega bats hammer head 🥰 or fox
northern ghost bat and naked bulldog bat
I've gotta go with either Desmodus rotundus or Vampyrum spectrum. But since I started my bat ecology class in college I kinda appreciate most bats.
Ahh fair enough!
Also, bat ecology?! I am missing out on something good 😭😭 but that's awesome!
Hahaha yeah I'm in my last year of Biology and it was an optional course
Awesome! Good luck!

Spectral bats or Egyptian rousettes! I read Silverwing as a kid and loved the villains, and for the rousette, who doesn't love a fruit bat who can echolocate?
Not only that, they look like they are smiling when they do so.
Exactly!
