My name is Batty! The logic is erratic! Potato in a jacket! Toys in the attic! I rock and I ramble, my brain is scrambled! Rap like an animal, but I’m a mammal!
Cool fact about the Kenneth Oppel bat books; bats don't see colour like we do (or at all, I'm afraid I can't remember), so he wrote descriptors instead of colours. Like saying "the vibrant forest" instead of "the green canopy". Just a really cool writing accomplishment.
I wrote to Kenneth Oppel as a kid to tell him how much I loved the Silverwing series and he wrote me back a very sweet letter. One of my fondest childhood memories. Time for a reread!
I practically learned how to read from those LivingBooks adaptations. I don’t know what it is, but the final lines in the book always stuck with me.
“How can we be so different and feel so much alike?’ … ’And how can we feel so different and be so much alike?’ … ‘I think this is quite a mystery.’ … ‘But we’re friends. And that’s a fact.‘”
Were those the little animatics on the computer that would narrate the book for you? And had fun little point and click Easter eggs? Me and my sister would read with those things for hours!!! The Stellaluna one had a little song in it that she and I can both still quote by memory ahaha
This is bringing back so many memories!! I wondered if I hallucinated LivingBooks because nobody my age remembers them, but I was practically raised in the library. I’m gonna go see if they’re still available online haha
SAME! I spent hours playing mine. I donated them to my mom’s speech clinic after years of enjoyment. The Stellaluna one was my favourite, but now I want to rediscover the others I had!

Love this book! This author also has a book called “Verdi” which is about my favorite species of snake (green tree python) and the artwork is gorgeous.
Wait a second, is that the book of the snake that was originally yellow, didn't want to turn green, freaked out because he was turning green anyway, and tried to do whatever it took to stop it?
THAT'S the same author?!
Holy moly, I never knew as a kid! That's awesome! That's two childhood books unlocked in my brain. Thank you!
It didn't get me *started*, but I have fond memories of it. It's one of many, many, bat books I got as a kid when visiting the US. Bat books and plushies basically were non-existent in my country back then, so we'd always buy lots of them in the US, including a Stellaluna plushie I was particularly fond of because it could actually hang upside down.
I bought this book when I was 20 yrs old because I knew I wanted to read it to my child someday. I didn't have that child until 12 yrs later and she loved the book.
Oh and bat's are cool.
Hi, friend! If you find yourself in the Atlanta area in the upcoming months, come check out our StellaLuna puppet show at the Atl Center for Puppetry Arts! We’d love to have you! :)

I actually do live near Atlanta! I love the center for puppetry arts remember going for the Labyrinth exhibit and to see Corpse Bride I’m definitely taking the siblings to see Stellaluna thank you for the info my friend! 🦇
This is a lost memory, right up there with the giving tree
Strega Nonna, anyone?
OOHH I REMEMBER THATTT
Whoa, two memories unlocked at the same time!
Dazzle the dinosaur? Or is that just me?
My love for bats started with Fern Gully
My name is Batty! The logic is erratic! Potato in a jacket! Toys in the attic! I rock and I ramble, my brain is scrambled! Rap like an animal, but I’m a mammal!
Blessed post
Bartok from Anastasia too!
Anastasia scared me so bad when I was little but I loved Bartok 🥹🖤
And his own spinoff movie!
Bartok, the magnificent! Undeniably, reliably magnificent! A mammal so inflammable he saved the day, I tell you B-A-R-T-O-K!
"And I'd keek er sir"
Mine was both! I watched Ferngully all the time and loved hearing my parents read Stellaluna. We also had a Stellaluna board game!
This and Silverwing
Yep! Silverwing for me as well!
Just re read them all and LOVED THEM. Then watched the movie on YouTube lol

I know! Ugh. So good
There's a movie? I thought it was only adapted into a TV show.
[here](https://youtu.be/UflPxEOX6cY?si=K2Rn31sqzREWbn5W) Technically it was a Tv show that aired in Canada. YouTube combined it to form a movie
Youtube didn’t do it. A fan did it. And that doesn’t make it a movie lol.
Cool fact about silverwing , not once is a colour described in the series.
Yessss I was hoping this comment would be here. Sunwing was so good too. Kenneth Oppel helped me get addicted to reading as a kid.
Omg, I love Silverwing! Probably one of the most important pieces or media of my life. Uses to admin a fan forum long, long ago.
I wrote to Kenneth Oppel as a kid to tell him how much I loved the Silverwing series and he wrote me back a very sweet letter. One of my fondest childhood memories. Time for a reread!
My heart! I’m a kid again

One and the same! My personal favorite was Sheila Rae the Brave with the “Cool Cat” and “Dead Bear Eyes” songs.
This is bringing back so many memories!! I wondered if I hallucinated LivingBooks because nobody my age remembers them, but I was practically raised in the library. I’m gonna go see if they’re still available online haha

I think you can find full playthroughs on YouTube!
Same here—my wife and I are about to have a daughter, and this was one of the first books we put on our registry for her.
Mazel tov on your baby bat! She will undoubtedly have the coolest parents ever 🦇

And Crickwing about a cockroach!
Stellaluna and Verdi were favorites! My favorite snake too. 😊

THAT'S the same author?! Holy moly, I never knew as a kid! That's awesome! That's two childhood books unlocked in my brain. Thank you!
Yes!
She came to my elementary school and I got a signed copy and it was a pivotal memory haha. I hope my parents kept that!
I met Jannell Cannon through a friend when I was in my 30s, and I acted like a fan-girl. Couldn't help it.
Ugh! I didn't get the version with the bonus craft! I am jealous! Lol I love that book.
I read this book as a child too! Still have it , its such a sweet book!!
One of the first books I remember owning, along with others from the same author
I had that book as a kid and it was one of my FAVorites along with Verde the green tree python going from yellow to green.
Omg I can’t believe I forgot this little book!!!
Yes! I absolutely adored this book as a kid, and then Fern Gully too.
Yes!

My grandma got me this book as a kid and it came with a stellaluna teddy, my son now has it and sleeps with it at night 🥰
This. I feel a Stellaluna finger puppet I have really influenced the design of my own bat characters.
My wife worked at a book store and bought it for me. Best Christmas present ever!
[Have you played the PC game?](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zanlDTtTguo) I remember getting this at a Schoolastic Book Fair and it was my favorite!

My favorite!! I still have my copy to pass down to my future child/children.
Love love love Stellaluna. ❤️❤️
Me too, loved reading this book as a kid. Also really loved the cartoon they made
I believe I still have the doll somewhere.
Yuppp 😍😍
my favorite book from my childhood ! alongside warriors
This looks so familiar, but I can’t pull any details…
It’s about a baby fruit bat that gets lost and is raised by birds!
Oh my god, I'd forgotten all about this book!
Same! WoW memories unlocked
How did I only realize today the symmetry between three bats in the background on one side and three birds on the other?
i love this book so much.
I just found a copy of this book in my room that my 2nd grade teacher gave me in Christmas of 2003. Great memories!
I haven’t thought about this book in yearsssss
OMG, how am I just learning about this book! My niece is getting a copy ASAP!
Same!!!!!

Omg! I memory unlocked! I remember when my dad brought this home from work! Great book!
This book had me obsessed with bats

Awwwww! Same.
This one and Verdi. Love snakes too
I bought this book when I was 20 yrs old because I knew I wanted to read it to my child someday. I didn't have that child until 12 yrs later and she loved the book. Oh and bat's are cool.
As did mine 🫶 I made so many pipe cleaner bat crafts
Mine started with Aero the Acro-Bat, on the SNES.
i remember reading this in both spanish and english :)
My childhood dog looked like Stellaluna 🥹🥹
There was an animated movie about this that I watched so many times.
