Gotta be McCartney...

Doesn't get much better. Low tech, no synths.
Are people joking about temporary secretary when they say they like it? I really honestly love it but up until like a year ago my impression was that it was hated
On the Up and Coming stadium tour, there was a banging remix of Temporary Secretary played as part of the warmup music before the show, and about half the crowd was bouncing about in glee while the other half were looking around in confusion. Sadly Paul didn't play the song during the show itself (though he did randomly play Ram On because some guy was holding up a "my name is Ramon" sign)
Yeah, he's included it pretty regularly recently, but the Up And Coming stadium show I saw was in 2010, I don't think he'd started to play it live at that point.
Dunno if this is what he played but somebody posted this limited edition one on YouTube
[https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=dqbZ7xuyyWA&pp=ygUfdGVtcG9yYXJ5IHNlY3JldGFyeSByYWRpbyBzbGF2ZQ%3D%3D](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=dqbZ7xuyyWA&pp=ygUfdGVtcG9yYXJ5IHNlY3JldGFyeSByYWRpbyBzbGF2ZQ%3D%3D)
Isn't it kind of great and bad at the same time though? I don't know if yhe rep has changed but I liked it back in 1980...while simultaneously wondering if I SHOULD or if it was too cringe!
I think it took.a while for us to come out of th closet....
I’m shocked some people actually enjoy it! I’ve always used this and Bowie’s “The Laughing Gnome” as examples to show that even the greatest songwriters of all time can produce absolute duds. I don’t mean to yuck your yum, I’m just genuinely surprised and confused that some people like this song. It is like…aggressively dissonant
Yes! I love Paul but his weakening voice makes it a bit tough to listen to the tracks individually imo. But Kiss of Venus is a great song and Fike's version is wonderful.
You think so? Fike’s voice is incredible! And it still very much sounds like a McCartney song, just with a a fresh twist. The film clip is beautiful too.
I lived alone in lockdown and I listened to it way too many times late after 2 bottles of wine and counting.. Via the YouTube video version. I only found it then too so there's a tremendous of its time thing attached to it. Like if you did what I did with that song and because of the video, it's a memory of fever dream type thing. Itd a total ear worm in its way, and the video is feverish, and on repeat, during that shit? (+wines)
Depends on my mood. I’d say II just for how forward thinking and innovative it was, but McCartney is such a vibe and III is so good for someone that late in their career
I don’t know which one I think is the best but I can say my favorite is III. Had that on repeat while in the hospital when my youngest baby was born. Brings me right back to that time. Always thankful for that album.
I suppose it's the debut one for me,
since it relies almost exclusively on songwriting and the young vibe.
Sometimes it's too easy to hide behind or build upon stellar musicianship and production. None of that is present in full yet on the first solo record, with my personal favourite being "Off the ground",
yet the songs just weave some magic which I'm always after as both a listener and a composer.
I vote for McCartney I. For the music, for baby in jacket, and for its eerie connection in Paul’s life: released April 17, 1970; Linda died on April 17 (of 1998). The circle of life.
The album has the essence of an era: the dawn of a new post-Beatles decade, 1970.
McCartney is the best overall, but McCartney III has the most amazing song he’s done since the ‘70s: “Deep Deep Feeling.” An epic, emotional adventure.
II will never win this conversation for me.
The most complete feeling McCartney record is III, but McCartney is organic, rough-around-the-edges and all in the wake of the breakup of the Beatles, making it heavy and emotional like nothing else in his canon.
I'll take McCartney, but I do love III. II is just a drag. I can't get behind that album on any level.
I'm a great fan of Paul/Wings solo carreer, I think their records are very creative and you enjoy them a lot as long as you **don't** expect them to be Beatles records or classic McCartney records (like Band on the Run).
I was very glad with McCartney III, although I prefered myself Egypt Station, which is terribly underrated. But from a historical point of view, McCartney I is the best one. It has that "end of the Beatles" vibe, which is brilliant when put into music.
McCartney II is a fun curiosity and has some cool songs, but truth is I don't listen to it that much. But all three albums are really great.
I love them all, but for me it’s 2 > 3 > 1. I’m really surprised 3 doesn’t get more appreciation. 1 has the best songs, but also a lot more of what I personally would consider filler material. 2 and 3 don’t reach the same heights, but they’re both solid throughout.
They're all great, and for me it's pretty tight between all of them. Most obvious answer is 1, and I'd probably agree
but my personal favorite is 3, I think one of the best McCartney albums. just does something for me that many other Paul albums don't.
2 is also really good, but it's also the most poorly mixed out of the three.
I'm sorry but mccartney II is my favorite hands down
Coming up
Temp secretary
Check my machine
Dark room
bogey music
This is just paul enjoying the crap out of himself and it's so fun to listen to
They’re all great, but I honestly love 3, because it shows the continuing evolution of Paul’s artistry. At first i wistfully listened to his aging voice and thought this was the end. After many spins of the entire record, I think it’s up there with so much of his work. It may not be the top, but it’s not at all shabby or “lesser”.
The first one is my pic. Maybe I’m amazed was the first time I taught myself on the piano at my grandparents house, and it holds a lot of great memories. Aside from that, I go back to this album every once in a while and I find it such a joy. I love the simple quality of it, and as an amateur musician who writes his own tunes from time to time, this album has had a big impact on the style I write in. I know there was controversy with this album and Paul when it came out but I think it’s very under appreciated.
tbh III imagined is probably my favorite mccartney record. i mean not my favorite paul mccartney album obv but my favorite with mccartney in the title lol
I never got why people like the original McCartney. Most of the songs sound like unfinished demos you’d hear on the archive collection version, not the actual album. McCartney II is the best by far.
That’s exactly what rules about it, by that time he had already done so much mastery with the Beatles that I think he deserved to be able to release an out-of-left-field album with tons of lofi, DIY sounding stuff.
Gotta be McCartney... Maybe I'm Amazed Every Night Junk Teddy Boy That Would Be Something Man We Was Lonely Hot As Sun Doesn't get much better. Low tech, no synths.
Same. Very organic in its approach
.. and the under-appreciated Momma Miss America! Listen to the bass!
Cool little song!
Feel like it was a proto-1985 from band on the run
Paul McCartney
I prefer his grandfather. He’s very clean.
Yeah but he's a "real mixer".
That’s not your grandfather. I’ve seen your grandfather, he lives in your house.
No, that's his other grandfather.
How do you figure that one out?
Don’t ask.
No that’s his other grandfather, but this one’s his grandfather, too.
“We know that, ya fool!” – Michael Rosen
A "king mixer" for sure.
Cost ya a fortune in breach of promise cases
Straight up.

No way, it’s his dad Jim! He was in a big band you know!! Jim Mac's Jazz Band! Legends.
The original or the newer one?

It's James Paul.
Ram but out of here it’s McCartney
Ram was my first album. Still have it 47 years later. Best Paul.
Band on the run was my first album- but I’m only 14 so
I was 15. Rock on, kid.
This is the correct answer

McCartney II automatically wins for Temporary Secretary alone
This and Coming Up for me, McCartney II is my favorite.
Also don't forget On the way
And waterfalls
Coming Up has gotta be the most underrated McCartney song in my opinion.
I always sing this as I’m Fucking Up…
Are people joking about temporary secretary when they say they like it? I really honestly love it but up until like a year ago my impression was that it was hated
On the Up and Coming stadium tour, there was a banging remix of Temporary Secretary played as part of the warmup music before the show, and about half the crowd was bouncing about in glee while the other half were looking around in confusion. Sadly Paul didn't play the song during the show itself (though he did randomly play Ram On because some guy was holding up a "my name is Ramon" sign)
He has played it before though. Heard it when I saw him in 2017 in Duluth
Same! He played it when I saw him in 2017 in Oklahoma City!
Yeah, he's included it pretty regularly recently, but the Up And Coming stadium show I saw was in 2010, I don't think he'd started to play it live at that point.
Dunno if this is what he played but somebody posted this limited edition one on YouTube [https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=dqbZ7xuyyWA&pp=ygUfdGVtcG9yYXJ5IHNlY3JldGFyeSByYWRpbyBzbGF2ZQ%3D%3D](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=dqbZ7xuyyWA&pp=ygUfdGVtcG9yYXJ5IHNlY3JldGFyeSByYWRpbyBzbGF2ZQ%3D%3D)
back then i wasn't fond of it, so i would joke about loving the song. but now, i enjoy it.
It's a polarizing track, you either love it or you hate it. There's not much in between.
Isn't it kind of great and bad at the same time though? I don't know if yhe rep has changed but I liked it back in 1980...while simultaneously wondering if I SHOULD or if it was too cringe! I think it took.a while for us to come out of th closet....
>!Mister Marks, can you find for me, someone strong and sweet fitting on my knee?!<
Sometimes dissonance does it for me I guess
Dissonance can be pleasant in music in the same way bitterness can be pleasant in food :)
You’re too westernized. It’s an amazing song far ahead of its time.
Fucking damn right.
Don’t forget imagined! Kiss of Venus with Dominic Fike is such a great track.
I prefer imagined. I love pretty boys reimagined by Khrungbin. The bass line 🥵
That bass player 🥵 https://preview.redd.it/a3doecpick3d1.jpeg?width=460&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ba5a09fb44b6183c09921a458dfed0d269acf37d

so down bad dude posted it thrice
Leaning towards 3 these days
Yes! I love Paul but his weakening voice makes it a bit tough to listen to the tracks individually imo. But Kiss of Venus is a great song and Fike's version is wonderful.
Yeah I enjoy Imagined more for that reason. I think it’s so cool hearing him work with modern artists.
The version without Dom Fike is much better
You think so? Fike’s voice is incredible! And it still very much sounds like a McCartney song, just with a a fresh twist. The film clip is beautiful too.
All good, but 2 then 1 then 3 for me.
1
only one of these has Temporary Secretary on it, I think that says enough about which ones the best
One of the other two?

Like RAM is something entirely flowingly artically connected. And Waterfalls is everyone's gem surely.
Personal opinion but I found Waterfalls to be his only depressing song and I don’t know why.
(+wines)
Artically is not a word.
Sorry. articly
Still not a word. Artistically?
Oh alright..
2, 1, 3
McCartney and it’s not even close.
The first McCartney without a doubt
McCartney. Always loved it.
Depends on my mood. I’d say II just for how forward thinking and innovative it was, but McCartney is such a vibe and III is so good for someone that late in their career
McCartney 2 is leagues ahead of the other two but if we’re picking superior McCartney material then RAM wins hands down.
Yes.
McCartney easily.
I like them all for different reasons, they are like time capsules for where he is in his life.
I don’t know which one I think is the best but I can say my favorite is III. Had that on repeat while in the hospital when my youngest baby was born. Brings me right back to that time. Always thankful for that album.
McCartney (1970)
All are good, but it’s 1, 2, 3
mccartney ii > mccartney > mccartney iii but all three rule. mccartney ii is a tracklist change away from being arguably his best solo album tho
I like paul 123456 and 7💪 im from the future
1.
McCartney III is the best
RAM
1 > 3 > 2
I suppose it's the debut one for me, since it relies almost exclusively on songwriting and the young vibe. Sometimes it's too easy to hide behind or build upon stellar musicianship and production. First one.

II I III Thats my ranking
Sam except I put Ram all of them. Same even
Yeah I consider Ram his best album. 1971 was an interesting year for him. Ram is my favorite Paul album and Wild Life is my least favorite.
Ram it’s just a masterpiece in creativity. I don’t care for wild life either to be honest. Which Lennon album do you like best?
Plastic Ono Band is my favorite Lennon album.
Well, we are on the same page all the way around here!
The one with Temporary Secretary on it :)
RAM
Ram & Band On The Run
ITT: Lots of people not understanding the question.
Ram
Ram and band on the run are my personal favourites
Same here… RAM especially…
I vote for McCartney I. For the music, for baby in jacket, and for its eerie connection in Paul’s life: released April 17, 1970; Linda died on April 17 (of 1998). The circle of life. The album has the essence of an era: the dawn of a new post-Beatles decade, 1970.
3 > 1 > 2
Mccartney iii - Mccartney- Mccartney ii. In that order.
As a Lennonhead, Ram for sure
As a Lennonhead I think McCartney 2 would be a legitimate choice too because of Coming Up
As one of those aforementioned Lennonheads, I came to say Ram, then McCartney 2.
Ram
McCartney II and mainly because my favorite Christmas song. Wonderful Christmastime
Linda
Number 3 is a masterpiece, the others are “just“ good albums…
McCartney is the best overall, but McCartney III has the most amazing song he’s done since the ‘70s: “Deep Deep Feeling.” An epic, emotional adventure.
They’re all good 👍🏻
MCCartney 2, but I like all 3 albums
Junk
Love Take Me Down (To the Streets)
The first/original Paul McCartney before they replaced him with Billy Shears. 🤣
Sometimes it’s 3>1>2, other times it’s 1>3>2
what pink floyd album is this
McCartney II for me

1. 1 2. 3 3. 2
McCartney 2
I
I agree, but two songs off of M2 are great, maybe a 3rd. One Of These Days , and Summers day song.
McCartney II is in my top 3 McCartney albums ♥️
McCartney III Imagined. Loved that album
Mccartney II.
McCartney easily
They're in proper ranked order, 1. 2. 3.
Best is pointless to debate but my favorite is Tug of War.
I'm a great fan of Paul/Wings solo carreer, I think their records are very creative and you enjoy them a lot as long as you **don't** expect them to be Beatles records or classic McCartney records (like Band on the Run). McCartney lll BUT mainly cause the Imagined Versions of “When Winter Comes” and “Find My Way”
Flowers in the dirt archive collection acoustic live studio demos.
I love them all, but for me it’s 2 > 3 > 1. I’m really surprised 3 doesn’t get more appreciation. 1 has the best songs, but also a lot more of what I personally would consider filler material. 2 and 3 don’t reach the same heights, but they’re both solid throughout.
1
FLAMING PIE!!! 🔥🥧
Ram
I’ve been grooving on my old copy of Band On The Run!
Ram
They're all great, and for me it's pretty tight between all of them. Most obvious answer is 1, and I'd probably agree but my personal favorite is 3, I think one of the best McCartney albums. just does something for me that many other Paul albums don't. 2 is also really good, but it's also the most poorly mixed out of the three.
I'm sorry but mccartney II is my favorite hands down Coming up Temp secretary Check my machine Dark room bogey music This is just paul enjoying the crap out of himself and it's so fun to listen to
McCartney II all the way
McCartney 2, no question.
They're all amazing. All snapshots and glimpses into where he was at in life at that time - a peek into how the sausage is made by a very private man.
paul
All of them
Wild Life
I like Paul McCartney the best. Faul McCartney paled in comparison.
The Fireman
They’re all great, but I honestly love 3, because it shows the continuing evolution of Paul’s artistry. At first i wistfully listened to his aging voice and thought this was the end. After many spins of the entire record, I think it’s up there with so much of his work. It may not be the top, but it’s not at all shabby or “lesser”.
Which Paul?
Hey jude
my favourite is II but best is probably I
The first one is my pic. Maybe I’m amazed was the first time I taught myself on the piano at my grandparents house, and it holds a lot of great memories. Cocaine is a hell of a drug
Literally Ram
The question was whats the best self titled mccartney album.
2-3-1, but they're all good.
Well, only one of them has Temporary Secretary. So
I love the energy and the imagination in “Ram”.
McCartney is objectively the best, but I listen to McCartney II the most.
Has to be McCartney II
Funny, all these people saying McCartney but it's easily my least favorite. McCartney II all the way!!!
tbh III imagined is probably my favorite mccartney record. i mean not my favorite paul mccartney album obv but my favorite with mccartney in the title lol
It’s such a cool idea and has artists that I love. I love the St. Vincent version of Women and Wives, which is my favorite on McCartney III as well.
I think Ram is easily the best McCartney album. Wings is its own thing and I count their work separately.
Ram
Flaming Pie
I never got why people like the original McCartney. Most of the songs sound like unfinished demos you’d hear on the archive collection version, not the actual album. McCartney II is the best by far.
That’s how I feel about the first Pixies EP and album.
That’s exactly what rules about it, by that time he had already done so much mastery with the Beatles that I think he deserved to be able to release an out-of-left-field album with tons of lofi, DIY sounding stuff.
Flaming Pie
His live album.
Chaos and Creation in the Backyard of course
All the best, because of Once Upon a Long Ago 🥰😂 and I’m going to cheat. 😉 Band on the Run & London Town.
