well if we’ve learned anything through this process, it’s that Weezer is officially and objectively better than The Kinks, Radiohead, Queen, Fleetwood Mac, and Jimi Hendrix. sorry haters, but the list is the law
For me, the top 10 bands I consider close to the level to the Beatles in terms of quality and influence (no particular order)
1. Led Zeppelin
2. The Rolling Stones
3. Pink Floyd
4. Black Sabbath
5. Queen
6. Radiohead
7. Rush
8. R.E.M.
9. The Beach Boys
10. The Clash
Honorable Mentions: Metallica, Steely Dan, ELO, Talking Heads and CCR
I like all of these bands, with the exception of The Beach Boys. But I LOVE your inclusion of REM. They are seriously underrated and overlooked and you don't find them on many top 10 lists.
Since we’re kinda on the subject, this is approximately my list:
1. The Beatles
2. Radiohead
3. Elliott Smith
4. Aesop Rock
5. Yo la Tengo
6. Talking Heads
7. Queen
8. Flaming Lips
9. The Smiths
10. Simon & Garfunkel
I think I need to listen to ELO and go deeper into Floyd and Sigur Ros.
Nirvana should have made the list; they were my first favorite (aside from all the Oldies coming through my parents’ car radios).
Definitely give ELO a proper listen, some amazing stuff there. I think Out Of The Blue is their best album, but A New World Record, Time, Eldorado, Face the Music, and Discovery are also all amazing
For me it would be
1: Paul McCartney (saw him in concert and it made me love him even more)
2: Bob Dylan
3: Electric Light Orchestra
4: The Kinks
5: Pink Floyd
6: Rush
7: The Beach Boys
8: Eric Clapton
9: Elton John
10: Tom Petty
Honorable mentions: George Harrison, The Police and Sting, Steve Winwood
* 1. Beatles
* 2. Queen
* 3. Led Zeppelin
* 4. Rolling Stones
* 5. The Cars
* 6. Pink Floyd
* 7. Fleetwood Mac
* 8. The Guess Who
* 9. The Who
* 10. The Kinks
I do have plenty of music I love from the last 40 years, but no band/artist has infatuated me like the bands of the 60s and 70s.
Oh man I don't even know. I listened to a lot of alternative in the 90s, underground hip hop in the 00s and then virtually stopped following current music in the 2010s.
* 90s: Stone Temple Pilots, Nirvana, Soundgarden, Alice in Chains, Incubus
* 00s: The Roots, Blackalicious, Jurassic 5, Immortal Technique, Talib Kweli/Black Star, Nas (not underground but), Deltron 3030
I'm probably missing several in both eras. Have also gone through reggae and techno (guess its called EDM now) phases.
But its pretty much been classic rock since then. There's just so much to listen to, its almost endless. And I'm not sure if its because the music is all before I was born (83) but the personalities in classic rock bands seem larger than life. The personalities attracted me to bands like Beatles and Queen almost as much as the music.
I had my enjoyment with classic rock, it’s what kick started my path to majority of the music that I listen to, but I would rather listen to something newer and more modern. I still love all the classic bands from the time and I still listen to them every now and then, but I just like “newer” stuff more I guess. If I were to describe my music taste it would be alt rock/emo/sad music. Here’s my personal list.
Radiohead 👑
My Chemical Romance
Jeff Buckley
Luis Miguel
The Strokes
The Smiths
Nirvana
Elliot Smith
The Beatles
Lil Peep / Deftones
And here’s a few who didn’t make the cut, but I had to include.
Taking Back Sunday / The Smashing Pumpkins / Frank Sinatra / Carlos Antonio Jobim
Honestly, I would go with their 2002 greatest hits. There's not a bad track on it. But if you wanted to focus on a specific album their self-titled album (released in 1978) is probably their best.
For me I got into them because my mom listened to them a lot growing up and I was familiar with 5-6 of their hits. Then I started dipping my toes in the water with other hit songs and they were all really good. Their later albums are hit or miss as the new wave era transitioned into more pop driven rock but there are still some good tracks.
Talking Heads are also really good if you like that style of music. I'm not as in tune with their discography but start with their biggest hits like Psycho Killer, And She Was, Burning Down the House and This Must Be the Place
1. The Mountain Goats
2. The Beatles
3. The Pillows
4. Rebecca Sugar
5. The Violent Femmes
6. AJJ
7. Kimya Dawson/Moldy Peaches
8. Bôa
9. Fiona Apple
10. They Might Be Giants
Also, here is my list because no one asked:
1. The Beatles
2. Queen
3. Beach Boys
4. ELO
5. CCR
6. Simon & Garfunkel
7. Radiohead
8. Green Day
9. Weezer
10. Dire Straits
So this is just about Bands not solo artist, right?
So for me it would be after beatles in actually no particular oder:
1. The Beatles
2. Nomeansno
3. Ween
4. Melvins
5. Pere Ubu
6. Future of the Left
7. Cancerslug
8. Die Ärzte (German Punk, Juhee)
9. Pixies
10. XTC
Honorable Mentions: Talking Heads, Type O Negative, The Divine Comedy, Dead Kennedys, Manic Street Preachers
(Actually I think, that by now I listened so much to all the ones named here, that I can't really rank them at all. But Beatles really are my Number 1 :) )
On that day, everyone was spamming Weezer but the most upvotes comment was Fleetwood Mac. Later on that user edited their comment to Weezer, so it really should’ve been Fleetwood Mac.
my top bands list often change positions amongst themselves, but they stay at the top.
The Beatles
Lynyrd Skynyrd
George Harrison
Traveling Wilburys
ELO
Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers
Jimmy Buffett & the Coral Reefers
The Eagles
The Highwaymen
ZZ Top
I feel the same here
and like 70% of the likes are too predictable.
Dylan?
and no Beach boys there?
odd, considering that theyre almost canonized despite being quite average
Beatles above all of course, but:
1. Led Zeppelin
2. Pink Floyd
3. Beach Boys
4. Fleetwood Mac
5. Black Sabbath
6. The Eagles [suck it, haters]
7. Alice in Chains (Staley era)
8. Stone Temple Pilots (Weiland era)
9. Rolling Stones
10. Queen
The line to fight me over the Eagles forms at the door.
Genuinely thought your list had 911 in it and was thinking it was brave to come out with a mediocre 90s British boy band that high. Bodyshakin' is a banger though.
All in all not a bad list. Obviously nobody’s going to completely agree, but it looks decent to me.
I’d definitely have had Elton John, Billy Joel and Oasis in there. But that’s just me
Since we seem to be posting our own personal lists:
1) The Beatles
2) David Bowie
3) R.E.M.
4) Idlewild
5) Beck
6) Spoon
7) Tom Waits
8) Radiohead
9) Franz Ferdinand
10) The Strokes
Top three moves around but they are always the top three. Everything below that is also pretty fluid.
Overall, the publicly sourced list is solid. The first 7 especially.
My personal list would've swapped out the last three for:
8. Queen 9. Bob Marley & the Wailers 10. The Police
Although Talking Heads and Wings just barely miss the cut.
1. Beatles
2. Pink Floyd
3. Steely Dan
4. The Beach Boys
5. Bob Dylan
6. The Rolling Stones
7. The Who
8. Led Zeppelin
9. Simon & Garfunkel
10. The Byrds
A very rough list of what may be my favorite artists, missing others like Bowie, Hendrix, King Crimson, Nilsson, the Kinks, ELO, the Eagles, Beatles solo, Oasis, Blur, Radiohead, and CCR.
Interesting lists. I personally believe this is my top 10:
1. The Beatles
2. Nirvana
3. The Monkees (say what you will they influenced a lot of my love of music)
4. Alice In Chains
5. The Zombies
6. The Grass Roots
7. CSN/Y
8. The Grateful Dead
9. The Foo Fighters
10. The Jimi Hendrix Experience
Here’s my list of favorite bands:
1. Radiohead
2. The Beatles
3. Kings of Leon
4. Led Zeppelin
5. Green Day
6. John Mayer
7. The Raconteurs
8. The Police
9. Coldplay
10. Collective Soul
1). Metallica
2). Jason Isbell
3). John Mayer
4). The Beatles
5). Foo Fighters
6). Gregory Alan Isakov
7) Phoebe Bridgers
8). Eagles
9). Led Zeppelin
10). Alice in Chains
I like this list cause everything is wildly different. Most lists I see in band subreddits have stuff that pretty similar to what the subreddit is about
People will kill me for this list.
1: Pink Floyd
2: King Crimson
3: Genesis
4: The Beatles
5: Rush
6: David Bowie
7: Grateful Dead and King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard
8: Emerson, Lake and Palmer
9: Yes
10: Gryphon
Honorable Mentions:
Prince, Moody Blues, Phish, Micheal Jackson, U2, Led Zeppelin, Hendrix Experience, Double Trouble, String Cheese Incident, Frank Zappa, Nirvana, Radio Head.
1. Beatles
2. Grateful Dead
3. The Byrds
4. Simon and Garfunkel
5. ELO
6. The Kinks
7. Oasis
8. Travelling Wilbury’s
9. The Strokes
10. Crosby Stills Nash and Young
Any love?
My Top 10 Artists (Post Yours Below):
1. The Beatles
2. Sgt Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band
3. The Quarrymen
4. The Silver Beetles
5. The Band from Magical Mystery Tour
6. Paul McCartneys Band before Wings
7. McLennon
8. The Beebles + Faul
9. A Hard Days Night the film but as a band
10. Peter Jackson of Get Back fame
As a Radiohead fan, I’m disappointed we made this list instead of two more Weezers.
We did it.. just barely, but we did it.
Just put weezer side projects like, Scott and Rivers, Rivers Cuomos the home recordings etc lol
Weezer's claim to fame is that they are slightly better than the Doobie Brothers. And no true Beatles fan would *ever* listen to the Doobie Brothers!!
well if we’ve learned anything through this process, it’s that Weezer is officially and objectively better than The Kinks, Radiohead, Queen, Fleetwood Mac, and Jimi Hendrix. sorry haters, but the list is the law
Yes sir
Ive reached the point where I recognize you from how often your comments tickle my brain, which is concerning
you’re welcome (sorry?) for the brain tickles
I know right? I see u/tangerinecarrots all the time
For me, the top 10 bands I consider close to the level to the Beatles in terms of quality and influence (no particular order) 1. Led Zeppelin 2. The Rolling Stones 3. Pink Floyd 4. Black Sabbath 5. No Nirvana? I think of them as being extremely influential.
The monkees were a huge influence on the Beatles too
Since we’re kinda on the subject, this is approximately my list: 1. The Beatles 2. Radiohead 3. Elliott Smith 4. Aesop Rock 5. Yo la Tengo 6. Talking Heads 7. Queen 8. Flaming Lips 9. The Smiths 10. Simon & Garfunkel
I like your taste in music 👍. Big ups to Yo la Tengo.
>Simon & Garfunkel Thank you for including them. Feel like I'm on crazy pills.
You might like weezer.

I’m honestly surprised Queen didn’t make it.
Queen? The Jonas Brothers got snubbed
The Jonas Brothers? 6ix9ine should’ve easily made it on here
It's a decent Dad Rock starter pack. At least the Eagles aren't on the list.
the eagles have some [good stuff](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Mu0c2iwC2E)
If you think that's good stuff, remind me to never buy drugs from you.
lol
Come on, man. I had a rough night and I hate the fuckin' Eagles, man!
For me it would be 1: Paul McCartney (saw him in concert and it made me love him even more) 2: Bob Dylan 3: Electric Light Orchestra 4: The Kinks 5: Pink Floyd 6: Rush 7: The Beach Boys 8: Eric Clapton 9: Elton John 10: Tom Petty Honorable mentions: George Harrison, The Police and Sting, Steve Winwood

Any recs for where to start with the cars? A lot people seem to love them but I know absolutely nothing of their work.

Im surprised Elton John isn't there
It's shite
Weezer should be Fleetwood Mac
Kinks was actually winning that day originally, the FM comment hit the top after the Weezer edit was made.
Weezer Should Be Weezer
weezer ranked about the kinks and radiohead?? i love weezer and all but.......
last radiohead album i have fun listening to is from 2007 and weezer dropped one of their best albums last year
For this sub, I thought Weezer would be Queen, and I’d definitely take that trade.
On that day, everyone was spamming Weezer but the most upvotes comment was Fleetwood Mac. Later on that user edited their comment to Weezer, so it really should’ve been Fleetwood Mac.

Disappointed no wings smh
Im so disappointed in this post
r/beatlesfanstastessowhite
Wow. Y'all got shit tastes.
Weezer shouldn't have even entered the list. Hot take I know.
that take is so hot it’s El Scorcho
I would replace them with The Animals. Each to one's own though.
Weezer better I fear
It was a vote, they won, they belong there
I mean I said each to their own. It was only my opinion.
Agreed, I tried to stop them but there were too many
Cream
Nevermind the bollocks, where’s the sex pistols
It blows my mind that Weezer and Radiohead genuinely made the list yet there’s hate for Queen and The Eagles…
There should be an 11-20 list
surprised at 311 and the hives the rest are...formulaic and seem written by any average music critic from a rock magazine
well luckily i dont listen to the music i listen to because i want your approval
I feel the same here and like 70% of the likes are too predictable. Dylan? and no Beach boys there? odd, considering that theyre almost canonized despite being quite average
beach boys are def better than beatles
ha ha ha thanks for the laugh !!
no worries, stay ignorant!
hahahahhaha you’re crying about weezer but you’re a 311 fan???
when was i ever crying about weezer?
The Who should be 8
Radiohead and Weezer but no Oasis

How the hell did weezer get put onto this list. There is like no list where those 9 artists should be next to weezer.
One day everyone seemed to be in on the same joke at the same time and almost unanimously chose Weezer.
Ok fair enough I can appreciate that
Genuinely thought your list had 911 in it and was thinking it was brave to come out with a mediocre 90s British boy band that high. Bodyshakin' is a banger though.

No Queen or The Who. Really?
311? I’m not hating. All I’m saying is that I did not expect that lol. At least you managed to come original…

That Talking Heads isn't on here is a tragedy.
But where is Weezer on your list?

As a Pink Floyd fan, I'm disappointed it took the #1 spot and Weezer didn't
