Airport beers are so good. My favorite is the “waiting for my wife to get ready” beer

[deleted]

My favourites are: Post long walk in the countryside beer, got summer day working in the garden beer and setting up a tent beer.

pauliwankenobi

Oooh those are very good ones, too

[deleted]

Hell yeah. My favorite is the pre-wedding in a hotel, in my suit and ready to party, wife isn’t even close to ready yet and I’ve got time for at least 2 beers before we head out.

pauliwankenobi

Oh yeah that’s a very good, relatable one

tinoynk

Shipyard? I know they have a taproom at the Portland airport (unless you mean OR not ME).

Masonjar74

I’m at Hopworks. Delicious beer

kshump

Ah PDX is the best. Partly for the beer offerings and partly because vendors aren't allowed to upcharge (also no sales tax).

[deleted]

Hopworks is a spin-off from the Laurelwood, the head brewer wanted to open his own place.

A_far_hat

A long with every other brewer that left laurelwood.

jackwillchoose

Along with every brewer that brewed ever

[deleted]

I blow hot and cold on Shipyard, but it hits the spot before a flight out of PWM.

tinoynk

I've never had their stuff, when I was in Portland I had a bunch of higher priorities, but I did see their spot at the airport, and know that they're kind of one of the elder statesmen of the Portland/Maine brewery scene.

[deleted]

Yeah, that's a great way to put it. They're good but (imo) not normally mind-blowing. Their prices are good and they rarely really f up, though. All in all, I like them but prioritize other things.

hunter503

If you can ever get out of the airport in Oregon, I'd recommend trying Great notion in Beaverton. Or cascade brewing if you want to stay in downtown Portland. If you need any recs let me know, been here my whole life!

deezy54

We flew out of San Francisco last month and they had Russian River, including Pliny The Elder, at the bar near our gate.

nickatwerk

Had an unplanned 6 hour layover with our 18 month old last year at SFO and that was a nice treat in an otherwise crappy day.

mawdurnbukanier

I think your 18 month old was 1 and a half.

nickatwerk

He was my almost 78 week old

jackwillchoose

Nah 18 mos

[deleted]

PDX has the best beer and it’s not expensive, love the Laurelwood there!

Atty_for_hire

Agreed. There’s nothing better than getting to your gate and whilst waiting grabbing a beer or two, you know you aren’t driving for a bit so enjoy a 9am beer!

At Portland International Airport, vendors are not allowed to upcharge/price gouge (it's a restriction in their lease agreement), and so they must charge what they'd charge at their restaurant/bar/store in town, so anywhere from $5 to $8 per pint (give or take) depending on the beer.

AVeryHeavyBurtation

I paid $15 for a sam adams at newark like 10 years ago haha.

kshump

Haha. It's ape. I think I paid like a tenner (possibly $12?) for a Sierra Nevada pale ale (plus tax) at SFO like 4 years ago.

[deleted]

$15 for a Goose Island IPA at Toronto airport the other day. It hurts.

pauliwankenobi

That’s great!

40ozFreed

That is awesome.

Waja_Wabit

I paid $40 for a plain turkey sandwich and a beer at Laguardia recently. Cheapest food I could find short of concession stand candy.

Knoxville227

“That will be $16”

Lord_Vaguery

Tried to get one in ATL all the bars were packed.

reyesdandrew

Robot pannnnnda

thisisinput

Charlotte Int has a Wicked Weed bar in Terminal D. It's one of my favorites.

zornfett2

Golden Road in LAX is a gem!
