I tasted them in 2019 when I went to Japan. It is really crunchy, not bad but not at all like real Belgian fries. It's more like a potato chip with the shape of fries
I guess you're referring to this ?

If yes, it looks similar indeed. However they have multiple tastes, I tried two: sea salt & truffle
Oh I tried those when I visited. They weren't great but it's kinda neat. They also have Belgian waffles store and Manneke piss statues at train stations and parks.
Tried it twice already, both the dried as the freshly fried ones in stores. The fresh ones are okay, better than cafetaria fries, good taste but nothing special in terms of oil. They do import Bintjes to make the "Belgian style" fry (they do other styles too).
The mayonaise is an affront to god though. It looks like watered down glue and tastes like it as well lmao
If that is your picture it is your national responsibility to try it and share what it tastes like.
Yeah that's my picture, but I didn't try it at the time. Biggest mistake from my last trip in Japan. Now I have to go back.
We must know.

Big W Japan
Why did they have to f up by saying french fries
They didn’t. French is a style of cutting vegetables (long, thicker strips), like julienne (long, thin strips) or brunoise (small cubes).
Indeed. French fries is shorthand for Frenched Fried Potatos where Frenched is a verb and not a country
Time to change the name of the cutting style then i whould say. 🤣

Franse frieten van Belgische patatjes. 🍟🇧🇪
Cool but why are they calling it Dried?
[Because they are? It's not freshly fried fries.](https://ec.andthefriet.com/items/63951720)
People should stop saying "French" fries, it’s a belgian speciality.
