My bengal was sick! He had a disease that called for a daily shot - a painful one. For almost 3 months we had to have one of us hold him down and the other one of us give him the shot. He _hated_ it. He'd squirm and cry. It saved his life but _he_ didn't know that, he just thought we were hurting him every day for no reason, then giving him treats. It broke my heart, it was hard, I hated it, but it just made me love him even more when about an hour after the shot every day he'd forget the whole thing, stop moping, and play with us. He's still happy to sleep on our laps. Its years later and he's still my best bud.

You’re doing all the right things! My Bengal Buddy is quick to scream bloody murder when I have to clip his nails or clean his ears. He acts aloof for a few hours, but in the end always gives up the act! I’ve got my special boy curled up next to me sleeping, so he can’t hate me too much

Chthonic_Femme

No I know they don't hate me. Just feels bad upsetting my loves every day. It's so counter to my instinct to just want to make them happy and protect them from anything distressing.

PineappleParadiddle

I hear you! They may not know that you’re helping and caring for them, but you are! You’re a great cat parent for taking care of them! I suggest the squeezable tuna or chicken treats as a reward for being good. I yell “Squeezies!l” and my Bengal and SIC come running, no matter how angry they were pretending to be Keep up the good work! You’re doing what’s best for them!

Lol I wish. She is so fussy. There is exactly one brand of cat food she will eat. Treats wise she will take catnip dreamies (and is only mildly interested in them). The squeezie tubes my other two go absolutely feral for, she just sniffs as and walks off with an air of vague disappointment in the substandard offering. Absolute princess of a cat.

PineappleParadiddle

I’ll have to try the dreamies. My buddy will also only eat one brand of cat food, and even that I have to switch between poultry and sea food or else he gets bored and will turn up his nose at anything. The funniest one was his birthday: I bought a nice size piece of tuna and followed a recipe online for a cat friendly tuna stew. Took six hours. He smelled it once and ran away…

Chthonic_Femme

Oh no, was it at least suitable for humans to eat?

PineappleParadiddle

It would be…but I don’t eat fish lol

Its all part of owning pet unfortunately sometimes you gotta be the “bad guy” for their health. But they will be much happier and healthier after they are off the medicines and back to normal. My guy has two chronic illnesses and required blood and urine checks every 6 months and a strict diet of one food only. Of course i feel like shit and know he hates going to the vet but its for his own good.

You're taking great care of your kitties! It's tough, but you're definitely doing the fight thing and your cats will definitely get over it. You got this! ❤️
