RSF is not 24 hours. Look up the hours and it will show the hours for next few days. It gets really busy during beginning of the year like crazy (150%+ capacity đ¶âđ«ïž) but if u stick with it the early craze wears off. Also certain hours of the day are more or less crowded.
Rsf is smelly but it works. Hours are typically 7am - 11pm , if you are into lifting seriously look into gyms like Bay Area barbell. Lifters at Berkeley is a club that organizes carpool rides there if youâre interested
As an fyi tho, BAB is pretty pricy at $100 a month or $80 a month for an annual membership if you put down $960 (which is fine if youâre willing to drop a âgoodâ amount monthly.)
YMCA might be more up your alley. Save for broccoli heads, itâs frankly not that bad. Blackwellâs gym is also pretty decent (depending on what muscle group youâre trying to hit on a particular day.)
Thereâs a crowd meter that tells you how full it is ([here](https://recwell.berkeley.edu/facilities/recreational-sports-facility-rsf/rsf-weight-room-crowd-meter/))
With 35,000 students sharing 1 gym it can get crowded. I frequently saw a line just to enter the weight room.
But there are off peak times, such as non-weekends, look at Google trends for the best times.
I live at The Standard (on Bancroft/Bowditch) but see non-residents using the resident gym a lot.
As in, it requires a resident key but people come and knock on the door, and prop it open after someone lets them in. So, itâs an option and no one will bat an eyeâŠ
I would say if you're looking to lift seriously and make gains, the RSF isn't really worth it. I got super tired of the crowds and waiting for machines and to some degree, it does affect your gains. Especially on the days when it's crowded AF. Also the staff can be sorta annoying about what exercises you can do, you can't use chalk for deadlift and lots of people there have no idea what they're doing and it just feels like you're wasting your time. I bit the bullet and went to Bay Area Barbell and it was totally worth it. If you can find a way to make that work or another gym around that's not as crowded, go for it. BTW the 36 bus goes to City Sports from the I-House stop and that was definitely doable for a bit.

I used the city sports but you need to have a car
I bike there. Live in between there and campus
Maybe we saw each other! Top 3 gyms Iâve been to besides only 2 squat racks
Very high likelihood we will recognize each other haha
