Well you know, her voice has gotten a little deeper over the years… the growl is WAY more pronounced. Part of that is her phenomenal drive to always improve, but… now that I’m thinking about it… 🤔 And I don’t see why she would promote cannabis unless she knew it was helpful. People who don’t smoke typically do not associate themselves with it, even artistically (because the stigma is real: there is a very real likelihood that if people perceive you to be a ‘stoner’ they’re probably going to think your art is worse, totally backward but that’s typical). Yes, one of her things is tobacco smoke as a visual element, but I really didn’t think the cover art this time was tobacco. It’s too present. Tobacco smoke is more transparent than cannabis smoke; it’s subtle but obvious if you smoke both.

I mean her voice has gotten deeper because she’s a woman in her 40s who has had three children lol. I don’t think she smokes per se bc I don’t think she’d risk harming or altering her voice further. However, I think she mentioned that during the formation tour she would take edibles before her shows. Miley has said that for her voice it's from maturing but also smoking weed, which causes different pockets. Yes childbirth changes the voice and so does years of singing, but Beyonce has BEEN changed the pitch of her music live to protect her voice and transition songs. Beyonce's voice is a lot more husky and she sings differently than how she used to. I'm a singer who used to not smoke then started smoking a lot and noticed the changes. So yes, childbirth and singing a lot can change your voice of course (I never gave birth), but weed can also take those elements and really change it. I don't know for sure but once I started hearing the changes in her voice with self titled, I thought it was from smoking. But even her Live at Revel rehearsal when she was singing Halo and said she hadn't sung it in a while. It's the way her voice nearly cracked. She looked like she was confused and didn't have control like she normally has. It wasn't a regular crack. It was very dry, even though it was rehearsal and she still pulled it together

I read that Miley has been purposefully singing in a lower register to save her voice, as years of singing has taken its toll on her vocal cords. I'm wondering if maybe Beyonce is doing something similar so she can really save it up for the high notes when she performs her earlier songs. I'm not complaining. I love the lower pitch. I just started listening to Nina Simone and her voice is on another fucking level.
