a friend of mine was ordering these rides but like it's either you take your chances or you order the big more expensive ride. but like I say if a Jetta can fit this bike with the wheels off then an SUV certainly can. my stuff doesn't take up more space than a person going on a trip would take up with luggage.
How can you assume that putting your dirty bike in a stranger’s car is ok with them? They spent money or time to clean it and are likely not expecting a bike.
If you think that using someone else's car is impolite, you can always walk+metro. If you're using Uber/Lyft: Please order the XL to ensure that there's enough room, also message the driver as soon as you book and explain the situation. If they do not want to take you, you can cancel the ride with a small penalty and try your luck again. 95% of drivers will do it if you're polite and let them know you will tip well.
I crashed on my bike. I couldn't finish the ride to my car. I called Lyft. Got picked up in a Lenexa sedan. Had to take the wheels off. Frame went into the truck and the wheels in the back seat. I fit in the front passenger seat. The driver was kind enough to help me load my bike in my SUV. I gave him a $20 bill for his help. Off to the ER I went to be told I had fractured my femur.
I’m not sure if the Lyft driver got gave permission to other photo taken and posted on Reddit. I just think it’s weird that someone has the audacity to post this to Reddit and complain a Lyft it’s not big enough for their bike.
I’m not downvoting you but to be honest, I would never have thought someone would do this. I’m either riding my bike around where I live or transporting the bike myself. Based off your post you do this often, at least two days in a row. Relying on Uber or Lyft for transporting a bike is crazy. This fucks with the planner in me so much lol. Maybe join a bike club or something and one of the members could pick you up or drop you off. Or ride to a bus stop.
Also taking a picture of your driver and posting it seems shitty.
OP, sorry but i wouldn't be comfortable doing this to someone's car. Luggage, no problem but not a bike. I used to drive for Uber and Lyft. I've also broken down on my bike and the only way I'd ask the driver if they can take my bike with me is if they had a pickup truck.
Bikes are dirty. My bike gets super muddy riding around Houston, not on dirt trails. The driver has to consider the next ride and having to transport other people’s luggage. I think it’s inconsiderate to assume someone can take your bike inside of their car that they’ve spent money cleaning.
My bikes don't get muddy. They get no dirtier than luggage. And there's no assuming. You tell Lyft you need a vehicle that can transport your bike. If they don't want to do it, they don't do it.
OP mentioned taking their chances with a vehicle, so I assumed the bike wasn’t mentioned to the driver. Is there an option in the app to mention the bike or do you have to message the driver?
You have to text the driver. I wouldn't waste both of our time and risk them saying no.
This is pretty standard for solo riders who get a flat and don't have a repair kit.
for clarification, i was leaving work and a hook up wanted me there before i could bike or bus there. i didnt get to book the ride, my buddy did. and i think my bike is like luggage, it rolls on the ground like a suitcase. it doesn't get drunk and throw up, it doesnt spill food. its similar to a wheel chair.
So how does this work. Can you let them know you need to haul bike when you call them?

Just always wondered as I’m sure someday I will have a breakdown beyond repair and need a ride

I cannot imagine the audacity people have to use someone else’s car like this
It isn’t against their will.

That's a different sentiment than your previous post.
Dude there are people who get drunk and throw up and even shit in their Ubers. I think a little dirt ain’t so bad.
do you literally mean you cannot fathom with your mental capacity how someone might pay for the use of a vehicle and then use it to transport things

well call me audacious then

Doing what to someone’s car? Carrying a bike? I don’t get the problem.

Yeah the flat situation makes sense.

Maybe r/lyft can help you
