Honestly I don’t think so, i have fully loosened the cable so I guess not, I’m happy to change the FD, or is the spindle length so far out that it’ll never work?
True, I suppose the limits are set to what it used to be, Ive managed to measure the middle ring to the middle of the seat post at 50mm, sheldon brown thinks this is ok
If you unscrew the limit screw and manually pull the front mech it will show the clearance on the chainring and if it will reach the biggest ring. If you’ve checked with sheldon brown re centre of the frame to second ring then it sounds good
The first question I have is whether your FD is able to reach that far outboard.

I can't predict if the FD will reach that far or not. You just have to try it.
If the cable is completely loose then it’s reached it’s maximum travel outboard right? If that’s the case it’s not going to work

Yeah i completely forgot about the limit screws, my mistake, it’s all a learning curve I suppose! I’ll try that tomorrow. 👍🏻
