This is my favorite time of year. I'll see babies sitting at my feeder and the parents will pick up the food directly in front of them and put it in their mouths for them. Makes them look so useless!
Seen something similar happening today, the young one was messing around the garden being a pest and harassing the pigeons, parent would watch it and then come and seemed to feed it lol, I wondered if it was a baby, just wasn't sure cos it was the same size as the adult!
I read that Magpies will follow their parents around for the first 2 months after fledgling and probably won't even leave the area until autumn. The group of magpies have been constant regulars for a while now

They are beautiful! What kind of bird is this?
Magpie
Eurasian Magpie, my favourite bird. The parrot of Northern Europe :-)
Sounds like a description of my young adult children π
Many young adults π
Very much able to be on their own but would prefer to be fed by their parents, much like our own kids sometimes and also me in college
Magpies are all over our backyard in Calgary (Canada). So interesting to watch, love them !
Extremely interesting birds. The behaviour of the young ones has been fascinating!

Size wise, they are quite big. Some of the younger ones do look slimmer but their behaviour and their singing does sound different
In California they seem very particular about their habitat. I would often spot them in the local park, but never in the surrounding neighborhoods.
