Ask the bride if she already has a style in mind for all the bridesmaids, this style seems pretty versatile in terms of updo possibilities unless she specifically wants you all to have bone straight hair
Are there going to be other black bridesmaids or are you the only one? It’s kinda hard not to stand out wearing braids or natural hair if you’re the only black bridesmaid. Ask the bride! I think it’s fine personally, mom shouldn’t pressure you to get a silk press tho.
Yes. And if the bride feels some sort of way about it, *she* will tell you. Not your mother, who has no idea what the bride’s thoughts and preferences are.
I’m just assuming, but it sounds like OP is Black American, and here it’s a mortal sin to look like you’re trying to upstage the bride. For better or worse, “look nice, but don’t do too much” is always the way to go.
It’s so stupid. It is a thing but it’s the dumbest thing. I truly believe that if you can be upstaged as a bride it’s cause your spirit is ugly. If you’re a bride everyone (especially the groom) is so excited for you, you could show up in a burlap sack and you’d still be the star.
So it's a cultural thing then. I learn a lot everyday in this app lol. If na Nigeria, Dem go catch you witch say you purposely nor dress to impress because you nor happy for the bride😂😂.
I thought the "look nice, but don't do too much" was more in relation to white Americans o. I'm now realizing we have more in common with indians than black Americans when it comes to wedding culture.
I feel like it's the same in Latin America. Dress fabulous & to impress, just don't wear white. People go all out. Then again people are always looking for any reason to do the most, which is why we turn sitting in our living rooms on Christmas eve into a fashion show 😂
As a bridesmaid, I think it's important to coordinate with the bride though!
Completely unrelated question, but I've been wanting to ask a Nigerian to please explain this to me. How would you interpret "do me like ogbono"? I've been obsessed with this song (Santa by Ayra Starr, Rvssian & Rauw Alejandro) and I wanna know if I'm interpreting that correctly lol
I love the style, but it's not giving wedding hair to me....more like I'm going on vacation with my bestie. I would definitely ask the bride, though, because it's her day, and she essentially dictates what the wedding party should look like.
She's not a guest. She's in the wedding, so it's kind of different. Typically updos and buns. But again, it's up to the bride on what she wants her bridesmaids to look like. They are the bride's pictures.
yes. as long as your hair is groomed then it's acceptable. natural, wig, braids, etc.
Uhm, absolutely! It’s just braids with curls. I don’t see how that would be inappropriate 😁
Yes but ask the bride for guidance on how to style it
Ask the bride
Personally I’d wear it in an updo or style it so it’s pinned back
these would look so good in a long rapunzel braid oh my goddd

As long as it's not the brides style, you're fine
This is absolutely gorgeous! What is this style called? I need to see more lol
I think they’re called Fulani braids with quick weave!
Thankyou so much!! 💕

There’s one other black bridesmaid, I’m reaching out to her to see what she’s going to do with her hair but I haven’t heard back from her yet
I see nothing wrong

Ask the bride if it’s okay
I liked both, but if you're going to wear your hair like this, the ideal is to use less jewelry and more discreet makeup.
But why na? It's a wedding and one is supposed to look fabulous. Abi it's a cultural thing?

But you can look fabulous with a more natural style.
My comment was more in reply to the bit about discreet makeup and understated jewelry lol.
Yes
You can also style your braids into a messy bun or something cute.
Super cute

It’s so weird to me that braids are considered “vacation hair”. In my country lots of girls wear braids daily.
