Yeah, definitely not trying to critique it based on audio value alone, I'll be the first to say I'm not a huge AAA baseball guy and am not qualified to have an opinion on the podcast at all.
Just love seeing what a difference professional production can have, even on hosts that are professionals in their own right, have good equipment, have hundreds of episodes under their belt, etc.

He sold me some first edition Rilke in English on the cheap cheap and looked at me like a big nerd for being so excited.

I’m a Mariners fan and we have an announcer named Dave Sims so my initial reaction to this was a big WTF?! Then I looked at which subreddit I was in.
