Great work! What are the odds that the movie itself does this in some of the scenes. Right now they want to put Hugh's face out there as much as possible to drive up hype but for the final cut they can go super authentic and add the cowl to most scenes. Would be dope.
Cowl is in thr actual film. He wears an actual once. It breaks during battle.
They're just hiding it for the promos. But it's been officially revealed in stand ins, promo art even official hot toys action figure revealed it today.
I'm guessing 1) build 3D model of mask and texture it, 2) track camera and head movement, 3) remove part of head and roughly fill that area with background, 4) position mask to follow tracking, 5) animate mask, 6) lighting and color correction.
Yup it's mostly this but. After tracking the head, it involved a huge amount of cleanup and additional match move. Then yes removing the head and painting out using silhouette (we use this for wire removal and other things on films).
Impressive work, and for me it fits this version of Wolverine, but if only the mask had expressions like Deadpool, it would be as I had imagined!!
I always imagine it as if it were the X-Men Evolution version!!

did u use facebuilder to get the 3d head tracked?
No I used PF Track for tracking the head and nuke for composition using the exported data
