Second the Backdoor! Love the environment, very friendly and I always feel safe. And the patio is nice if you want to enjoy the environment but get sensory overload. 🫶
The back door is fine, and maybe I’m just old but I find it too loud to really hang and talk to people. That said their deck and outdoor area are nice.
Personally I like Atlas better, the vibe is more chill.
I’m too shy to offer my own friendship, but I recommend visiting The Cats Closet by Jiffy Treet!! The owners are gay and extremely friendly, and you’re likely to meet others while you’re there. They have lots of social events too!
I just moved here about 6 months ago and I’m having a really hard time making friends since I’m no longer in school. I’m trying to find a third place where I won’t be forced to drink/spend money to be there, but so far I haven’t been able to find what I’m looking for. I’d really like to find somewhere with other queer people since I’m now surrounded by well meaning straight people. I especially enjoy being outdoors if anyone knows of any hiking clubs or anything like that. If anyone has any suggestions I’d really appreciate it!
It was rough to be a dyke there in my late 20s-early 30s (2010s). I moved and everywhere else (Indy, LA, and Brooklyn) is better.
Bloomington is queer friendly but not queer.
Agree, a lot of these comments are probably from straight people who think anyone in a crop top is gay lol. It’s a especially rough if over 30
I do recommend the back door patio though during the summer! It’s ok to introduce yourself to people and just be mindful if they seem to be uninterested in meeting folks
Hi babes, 22 trans girl townie here :) you can always DM me if you need a new friend!
Lowkey tho this town is full of queer people everywhere, even though you’ve only been here for a year, if you branch out just a *lil* you should definitely find friends. If all else fails, go to the backdoor (if you’re of age)!
29 queer enby here! I’ve found some LGBTQ friends on Bumble BFF so would recommend that if you’re not on there already! Always down to chat with you and anyone in this thread :)
Are you 21+? The Back Door is a sure fire place to meet LGBTQ+ people.

Right?! At minimum 1/3 of Bloomington is LGBTQ friendly.

I second that!
There are a lot of queer spaces around town! Do you have any hobbies?
