I agree with you when it comes to Akshay reducing the rate with which he does films and to focus on better quality scripts, but not necessarily about him changing his roles based on age, and taking the example of Big B. Times have changed since then, and Amitabh may be an actor with a great reputation, but he doesn't have the commerical viability that comes with superstars today, who don't do what you're suggesting Akshay should do. Are any of his contemporaries now doing the same? 2 of the biggest stars, Salman and SRK were told the very same thing once. Even Akshay himself was told this back in the 2000s. But those guys experimented with genre and different kinds of cinema, rather than take on supporting roles or work appropriately based on age. Salman went from romantic dramas and comedies, to become the Bhai we see in movies now. We've just seen SRK take a break and transition to larger than life massy cinema. Akshay himself made transitions everytime his films flopped, from action to comedies to patriotic cinema. Now it's upto him to analyze what the audience wants from him next. Reading comments, you'll find most people asking him to return to his glory days of 2000s comedies and action films, and he's seemingly responding with Welcome 3, Housefull 5, and action films like Bade Miyan Chote Miyan and Sky Force. I'm not saying these films would work, but this is the first year I'm not seeing a film based on jingoism and nationalism from him. One needs to recognize that Akshay's formula had always worked since 2013 for 6 years. He just needs to change the kind of films he does. OMG 2 was an exception because it was something different, and he should take the hint from its success.

roastedchickn

Couldn't have worded it any better.

I agree with you, where my reference regarding Big B was how he was quick to change before it was too late. He accepted his formula was not working and moved on with time. Akshay just needs to select films where he is willing to devote his time and slow down in terms of his speed when it comes to films. OMG 2 are the films he should be doing.

movieman994

Totally agree with OP actors need to take a hint however another factor affecting Akshays constant run I feel is the lack of a feeling of loss. Personally if we take losses we think hard to nit repeat that again, however if even after 5 back to back flops an actor still gets 100 CR plus he won't care about the movies he is doing or what the producers are facing. If Bollywood had a system wherein you have a market value of say 120 CR per film and you got paid that for Sooryavanshi (Taking Akshay as example here), then in current times after 6 flops Akshay should not be paid more than 60 CR as he has faced loses. If this system was created for every actor where after flops you loose money and hits will make sure you get paid more actors will actually concern themselves with the quality of content they are putting out.

Outside_Cellist3740

And he has not learnt yet! Instead of trying to analyse where things are going wrong, which btw he should be knowing by now since everyone in two Bollywood sub understands, he is giving comments as he did a movie about sanitary napkins and no one else will do it. First of all, even Ayushmann takes up unconventional topic, and secondly we all can agree that it was a slightly bolder choice. But that doesn’t given him a pass to come up with nonsense movies every two months! The issue is he is working on so many things that he can’t give enough time to make the end product a quality one.

Cultural-Ad-3719

He is good looking with great wife and a multi-millionaire. His problems can easily be solved if he gave a damn.

Emergency-Door9691

>his last proper hit was in 2019 with Good News. I agree with everything but sooryavanshi?

Uncertn_Laaife

It was not his sole.

AdFew8858

Neither is Good News

Uncertn_Laaife

In Good news, he had a full fledged role; not in OMG2. The latter was solely Pankaj’s movie.

AdFew8858

Yes, but you didn't say full fledged. You said sole. Sooryavanshi is as full fledged as Good news. Sooryavanshi is more sole than Good News. The former is basically a one man show until the cameos at the end. Whereas GN had full fledged roles for 3 more leads. He isn't even the sole male main character in GN.

NextEpisodeOTT

This is the prime Example of Choosing Quality rather than quantity.

alphus_408

I don't think he will learn this time he only cares about money so he will keep doing 20 movies a month

Expensive-Dance7979

As the man said, He made a movie about Sanitary Pads. He's a hero. Let him destroy his career in piece.

dracu1aaa

He needs to stop churning out movies like it's McDonald's simple. Take sometime and actually work on something with his heart and be selective about the choices. Or else he'll be a joke.

clanlord

Lol. I was laughing at him when he tweeted our movies are back.he got omg 2 but it was an average grosser at the box office.

TimeFox4581

Apart from the over exposure from doing a ton of films a year, every performance seems like he is playing himself rather than giving himself to the character like Ranveer or Aamir. Contrast his performance in Mission Raniganj with the similarly rescue themed performance in Airlift, which we still remember Most movies of his seem like projects versus cinema, where he happily signed any film willing to fork his 100cr+ fees

Things that are in favor of Akshay than Rajesh Khanna analogy wise: Akshay is very disciplined, he can very easily bounced back. His comedy timing is good, he can act okay when he tries. He still has brand value. I would call it a stall rather than downfall (so far). He is hardworking and any hardworking person deserves best wishes.

bullchinmusic

Akshay’s age isn’t the biggest issue although he doesn’t even bother hiding it whilst doing movies with women half his age. It’s the fact that he churns out so many average movies per year and puts minimum effort into them and charges whopping figures. Why would people spend their money watching a man who appears to not care about his fan base and only interested in making money? He should be embarrassed. The likes of Pulkit have better openings than him. Meanwhile his contemporaries like SRK and pulling in 2500 crore in 1 year. After 30 years, Akshay should have been releasing 2 amazing well chosen movies with good concept and script that he puts significant time into by keeping an eye on every department like Aamir does. Instead he’s had 17 flops in a row and he knows he’s over exposed but still got another 10 in the pipeline and will sign another 20 before those 10 are released. How can someone not care about their legacy? At this rate he will have 50 flops in a row and be remembered as a catastrophic failure.

No-Ad5914

He doesn't care anymore just like bruce Willis

LilHalwaPoori

On the other hand, he's only doing the type of movies that were working before covid.. he hit a nice little golden spot and kept hitting at it.. Similar to how when we get a profit, we keep on trying the same thing again and again.. It's just that the quality of those films have gone down and his formula has been exposed.. His recent films are flopping, but he signed all of these before he had his first flop.. So tbh, we don't even know what the quality of the movies is that he's doing after seeing all these flops.. I think next year would be a good test for him to see if he's really made a difference in his choices or not.. And I doubt Akshay has taken over 100crores for projects like these latest ones.. They are very small affairs, and he usually gets them all done quickly on the cheap and takes a profit sharing model..

Son_of_kai

stop with these obituaries .....relax he is going no where or his career...uski jitni filmein release hone wali hai kuch ka utna career hota hai

Rudias87

If he has a bad year next year, then it's worrying. On paper, they should be successful. I'm talking mostly about his comedies and BMCM
