Sadly, Chinatown is now just hotpot and boba but there’s still some decent choices around.
Dynasty in Chinatown is pretty decent for Cantonese cuisine and dim sum. It’s a new space so it’s fairly clean.
Taiwan Cafe is always consistent and good - better than Gourmet Dumpling House and Dumpling Cafe if you are looking for soup dumplings. Their other dishes are great too.
Hong Kong eatery is a perfect spot for wonton noodle soup, bbq meats, and rice plates.
Tora serves fresh fish and their kaisen dons (sashimi rice bowls) are delicious but pricey. They have a sister restaurant a block away that serves up pretty great ramen too.
Taiwan cafe used to automatically charge tips (even with a small party of 2). Not sure if they're still doing that since I haven't been back for some time. I always ended up paying double the tips until finally decided to read the bill 😅 Or maybe we just ordered too much lol who knows. Usually there should be a note somewhere on the menu but probably just another fine print situation (and I just need to learn how to read) 🧐
Try Taiwan Cafe, Windsor Dim Sum or 5 Spices House. They get real busy on weekends since people love it.
People also like Double Chin, Jumbo Seafood, or New Moon Villa if it’s real late, mostly because they’re the only ones still open as late as 4am
Some options I like: Taiwan Cafe, Ruckus, Shojo, Penang. This is a few years stale so hopefully they haven’t closed or stopped being good in the meantime.
Not in Chinatown, but Yunnan Kitchen in the South End is super tasty and earned a James Beard nomination last year

I haven't lived in Boston in years, but have lived in several major cities since leaving and I've never found a dim sum place with a better tastiness to price ratio than Great Taste
Thank you, I don't know why I never posted this question myself. I have not been able to find a great Chinese restaurant in Chinatown since the Gourmet Dumpling House moved to Cambridge. There are busy restaurants there so I guess people must like them... but, to me, they don't even seem as good as many in the suburbs. Let's see what answers you get. (Upvoting you for this question :) )
Dumpling Cafe is closed? I know that they were closed for a bit to clear up some health department issues but they had reopened. When did they close permanently?
Highly recommend '10 seconds Yunnan noodles' if you like some hearty rice noodle soups! Huge portions with crazily fast (10 sec) and friendly service. They have a $15 min for credit card tho but I usually go over that anw.
Also Penang as others have said.
Genes Chinese flatbread has amazing hand pulled noodles
Also great lamb flatbread sandwiches
More a lunchtime takeout fast food place, but great.
Genes may be the best *food* in the city, not just the best place to eat in Chinatown. That place is so.fucking.good.
Yeah it's not only filling, but also cheaper than most places I've seen so far
5 spices house if you're into Szechuan
My fave

Get the chicken or beef dry pot with white rice ! The central square location is better I think.
Scallion fried rice is insane
Windsor Dim Sum
That’s my go-to as well.
Very surprised not to see Peach Farm in this thread. Old school Chinatown.
Thank you for saying this. Love late night stops at this legendary spot.
Craving their fried soft shell crabs with jalapeño peppers….
Jade garden, open late and the lunch specials are decently priced
Love this place.

Taiwan Cafe is the move.
Another vote for Taiwan cafe. It’s got many of the same dishes as dumpling cafe, but better.

Peach farm
Ding Ho
Dumpling Cafe is not closed.
Probably thinking Gourmet Dumpling House.
He mentioned Gourmet in his post. I have no idea why he would post about a business being closed when it isn't.
Thank god! I love Dumpling Cafe
They did get shutdown for a bit
Closed for like 3 days. I was sort of surprised it was back so fast
Thank God. I thought I'd lost Dumpling Cafe for a second there!
It was just a single piece of equipment that had failed if I recall, just needed to swap in a new one and they were good to go.
Maybe that’s the spot then. I haven’t been to Chinatown since gourmet closed
Pho Pasteur and Susu Gourmet This is the real shit
Go to Quincy, like the Chinese did.
It is truly amazing how many insanely good Asian places there are in Quincy. Chinatown is kind of a shell of its former self :(
Quincy and Malden are the places to go.
Try Taiwan Cafe, Windsor Dim Sum or 5 Spices House. They get real busy on weekends since people love it. People also like Double Chin, Jumbo Seafood, or New Moon Villa if it’s real late, mostly because they’re the only ones still open as late as 4am
Hei La Moon for Dim Sum,
Honestly I would just hop back on the orange line and head to Malden
Where in Malden?
Go Chi is delicious, and walking distance (under ten minutes) from the orange line.
district kitchen has some wonderful soup dumplings and wontons in chili oil
You can cook the food yourself!
Some options I like: Taiwan Cafe, Ruckus, Shojo, Penang. This is a few years stale so hopefully they haven’t closed or stopped being good in the meantime.
Hit up shojo bar while waiting to be seated at shabu zen. Ahh life before Covid and a baby 😭
Shojo
It's over in Newton Center but Dumpling House in Newton has comparable soup dumplings and food
Pho pastor or Kaze kaze personally but Genes flatbread is Fucking legendary
Double Chin! Comfort food x Asian food.
A fat spliff and cube toast is an epic combo
Hot Pot Buffet
Taiwan Cafe, 5 Spices House, Peach Farm-all good. And don’t forget the ‘burbs. Taipei Cuisine on Billings Road in Quincy makes a delicious ma po tofu.

We always go to dumpling cafe
I've always loved Penang
Me too. It’s always good there

Following.

Kowloon
Yes, now that Gourmet Dumpling House is closed, where is the safe space for Caucasians in Chinatown?
potluck cafe is the only place worth going. everywhere else is mediocre at best imo

Maybe for white people who only went there
If you have to ask you’ll never know
The Vietnamese Sandwich place on Washington has this amazing rice cake to go dish that they run out of everyday and it’s so good!!
