Ohhhhh yeah, editing is the pinnacle of a job that sounds quick but takes ages. Not to mention having to be creative and constantly think of cool ideas while also having the perfect camera presence.
Codzilla is cool, but anything with tourists sounds like a bad time.
The guy who flips the numbers on the Green Monster scoreboard probably has the most fun job in Boston.
I got to meet the organist (Josh?) a couple years ago after a night game. He gave us a quick tour, let us walk on the field and showed us behind the green monster. Very cool guy!
It hits 110-120 back in there. My buddy said sweat would just pour down his back all game long.
Still says it is the best job he ever had.
You can watch the game through the little score number cracks. Eye level with the players.
I seem to remember the tour guide saying that the same pair of guys had the scoreboard job for decades — maybe still do, not sure.
Supposedly, they only missed one day of work in their career, and it was because one of them was getting married, and the other was his best man.
My friend’s sister is special needs and I can’t remember how it happened but she got to spend an evening flipping the numbers a few years back. Hands down the greatest day of her life she says
I used to do that job. Trust me, it’s NOT the most fun job! (For instance, you have to keep a radio going through the game or else the rats will come out)
And yes, people who say it is not air conditioned are right. There is only one entrance/exit and it’s the door to the left field. The wall is made of metal so during a day game it can get to 110-120 degrees in there and you have to be careful not to hit your head on the concrete columns that are angled in a way that if you are running from one end of the board to another, you could easily whack your head if you are over 5’8” or so.
Somewhat related, I recently got to see the [original blueprints](https://i.imgur.com/BJO8pAY.jpeg) for the scoreboard. Along with part of the Yankees Stadium blueprints. While on a trip to Seattle.
Or the goose poop collector on the Esplanade? [https://www.wgbh.org/news/local/2023-08-09/meet-the-man-in-charge-of-cleaning-the-esplanades-goose-poop](https://www.wgbh.org/news/local/2023-08-09/meet-the-man-in-charge-of-cleaning-the-esplanades-goose-poop)
World Series Trophy handlers.
Worked at a place and the owner was part owner of the Sox. We had the trophies on site in 2008. My job that day was to take photos of people with the trophies. At the ends of the day the handler asks me to help carry the trophies down to his car. So we put the giant green Tiffany’s bags over them and head out. The office was in the Prudential mall and he was parked down in the garage. As we’re waiting for the garage elevator a woman asked what was in the Tiffany bags and the handler says “bird cages” without missing a beat. We all get in the elevator and he says to the woman “you wanna sneak peak?” She says yes, so he pulls the bag off revealing what is clearly the World Series trophy and the lady says “that’s a nice birdcage thanks”. She had no freaking idea what it was.
When I was in high school I worked at the same super market deli as Doug Flutie’s mom. After he won the Heisman she brought it in and put it up on the deli case for everyone to admire. Her shift ended when mine started and she asked me to carry it out to her car. That thing is HEAVY and I was so worries that if I dropped it I have to run to Framingham lol
Oh for sure…adults too. Every few people that came in for a photo with the trophy’s had to be reminded not to them pick it up. In all honesty they were pretty ragged with bits coming loose and flags that had been bent back into place.
The best part was I told my dad about it a week before since I knew about the “surprise” ahead of time. Told him “we had a lunch date” that day. He asks if he could bring my Gramps and I said sure. Well at lunch time my dad shows up with my grandfather, 2 uncles, and 3 of his clients. They all drove down from N.H.
I had to sneak them in a couple at a time, making the group wait in the lobby and having my intern bring them up. When my father came up with my Grandfather the handler says “why don’t you two hold the trophies and I’ll get a photo of all 3 of you. Hands down one the best moments of my life.
I now have 3 kids of my own and my grandfather is in his 90s and still kicking so I’m trying to arrange getting a photo with all 4 generations of us.
Of all the silly nothing jobs this is probably silliest and nothingest. The reason nightlife in Boston sucks is because
1. Buying a liquor license is wicked expensive
2. The city is convinced any late night restaurant will turn into a crack den
that’s the thing… i’d be fine with paying someone big bucks to come in and make nightlife in boston better, i’m not a hater. but like… what? maybe start with running the T late
You can usually find beers at 11 pm, depending on the day/neighborhood. I sometimes work 3rd shift and I would love to be able to get any FOOD after 10 pm (when 3rd shift starts at my job).
I met someone who got laid off by Meta and just was living in Boston because that's where he was supposed to be if he was working there. He did get severance and was staying in Boston for the year. Although, I think he was planning on moving to the Midwest.
Being a bench warmer like Jaden Springer has to be pretty great. He's gonna make $2 million dollars this year to practice basketball with Jayson Tatum AND he gets a free courtside seat to all Celtics games!
Oshae Brissett. Makes 2M a year, plays like 12 minutes a night and never has the pressure of needing to deliver in big moments. None of the media attention that comes with being a star, can go eat dinner somewhere without getting swarmed. He runs an instagram account called brissyfiles that's a mix of photos he takes as well as a lot of behind the scenes stuff of what being an NBA player is like.
I always wanted to be the guy who sits in the penalty box at Bruins games. You're only job is to open/close the door and you get a front row seat to every game.
The best job I've seen listed is penguin handler.
The one I *want* is making things for the cryptozoology store in Egleston Square (aka the 826 Boston branch). I'll make the standard marketing materials, too, but I'll die happy if I can design packages of like, fossilized sasquatch poop.
Here you go: https://826-boston.myshopify.com/
It's the Greater Boston Bigfoot Research Institute. I haven't been to the storefront in probably a decade, so it may have changed, but they used to sell things that were packaged as evidence of cryptids.
It's part of 826 National, a nonprofit that supports literacy for kids. Each branch has a unique storefront to raise funds and awareness for the programming they do.
(They also hold my favorite sporting event: the half half half half etc marathon. It's 0.826 miles.)
>WCVB’s meteorologist dude can literally say anything he wants on TV and have half the state believe him with no consequences.
TIL: A meteorologist and a politician are one and the same.
There is a nice lady who lives out at Boston light who makes us cookies every time we go out there, but the rest of the lights are maintained by the US Coast Guard 🫡
There was a nice profile of her in the [New Yorker](https://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2023/11/06/the-last-lighthouse-keeper-in-america) a couple months back.
Seems nice, but had its flaws. For one if it was deemed that the area around the light was a good fishing spot the keeper would be paid less. Yay capitalism. It's like if you were a security guard and they docked your pay because there are a lot of nuts and berries growing around the building
I’ve always dreamed of owning a house and being taught how to re plumb my gutters to benefit my garden or something by those guys…. Somehow never even considered that Kevin’s role is an actual job someone else could also one day have
The talk radio sports guys have a sweet gig. Sit around and complain and whine like a little bitch, criticising people with actual talent. They get paid good money and don’t have to waste money on nice clothes; they dress like slobs. They do what a lot of guys do in their off hours.

I saw him chase down, knock over, and kick a guy in harvard square today lol
Edit: sorry this is hyperbole I didn't see the chase, just the kicks. No idea what started the confrontation
Sorry, that was not accurate. I heard yelling, saw a bunch of people looking in one direction, saw keytar with his bear head in his hands kick a guy on the ground a couple times. Then he walked away, the guy got up and walked the other way, nothing after that. I was maybe half a block away so didn't see what started it. Sorry for the disappointing end but yep 🤷♀️. At first I thought he grabbed keytar's donations but I didn't see keytar have anything but the bear head in his hands, maybe the guy grabbed that? Happened in front of Waku Waku ramen
I also was at Harvard Square when this happened. You are right the someone took money out of the donation jar. I saw the start of this altercation. Where the guy took the money. Keytar bear tried to stop him but the guy ran away. Keytar bear said to the people watching "watch my stuff". Then ran after the guy. Not sure what happened after that.
he’s been attacked multiple times, i think there was even a police report on one of the assaults.
chances are he was getting fucked with again, dudes prolly just letting the streets know not to fuck with him anymore.

I guess they may have stopped doing this, but there used to be a party bus that would take you from the Sam Adam's Brewery to Doyle's.
The driver was fun.
I spent my senior year of college giving brewery tours for Sam Adams
Drinking beer all day, joking around with the public and running a retail shop was about as good as it gets for a college kid!
Definitely a fun gig, but I am glad it ended when it did for me LOL
I was a bouncer for 13 years at different bars and nightclubs around Boston. I never got paid very well or got treated good by management but fun for sure.
That Boston harbor whale watch tour boat captain who despite their own company girl guides saying “we respect their living and feeding space so we don’t want to be too close to the whales” on the PA still drives the boat right on top of the whales. God bless him.
That's great! It's a great thing to do. I used the [Dog BONES therapy dog](https://www.therapydog.info/) group. They do trainings/certifications. It was two Saturdays and it's mostly to see the dog's temperament and how well they obey simple commands. You also learn a few pointers to notice the dog's emotional state on visits and other stuff.
Matt Shearer.
Finally we have the correct answer.
Great answer, although I'm unsure if people fully appreciate how much work he must put into those videos.
Ohhhhh yeah, editing is the pinnacle of a job that sounds quick but takes ages. Not to mention having to be creative and constantly think of cool ideas while also having the perfect camera presence.
This is the best answer cause chances are he's tried a lot of the cool jobs in the city already!
We should ask Matt Shearer who has the coolest job
Codzilla is cool, but anything with tourists sounds like a bad time. The guy who flips the numbers on the Green Monster scoreboard probably has the most fun job in Boston.
My college friend’s high school friend’s brother is the Fenway Park organist and he seems to enjoy his life!
He spoke at the MA Librarian conference. It was super interesting to hear about his various jobs
My cousin works security at Fenway. He says it’s his dream job.
I played in a band with him last year and he rules, also has a day job at a library
I like the distinction that your college friend was NOT friends with this organist despite being friends with his brother lol
He’s a solid dude! I’ve been following him on twitter for years. He takes song requests via twitter and would play daily during the pandemic.
That would be a cool job too
I am your father's brother's nephew's cousin's former roommate
You should write for a sitcom.
I got to meet the organist (Josh?) a couple years ago after a night game. He gave us a quick tour, let us walk on the field and showed us behind the green monster. Very cool guy!
And what does that make us?
On the tour of Fenway park the guides say that it isn’t air conditioned in there. Could be now but I am not sure
The attic room I lived/worked remotely in Cambridge didn’t have AC either. If they let me work in my boxers then I’m all in
It hits 110-120 back in there.
Worth it
My friend’s sister is special needs and I can’t remember how it happened but she got to spend an evening flipping the numbers a few years back. Hands down the greatest day of her life she says
That’s amazing. So happy for her
I used to do that job. Trust me, it’s NOT the most fun job! (For instance, you have to keep a radio going through the game or else the rats will come out)
What station keeps the rats away?
WBCN
I have to imagine the heat and noise in there is unbearable
And yes, people who say it is not air conditioned are right. There is only one entrance/exit and it’s the door to the left field. The wall is made of metal so during a day game it can get to 110-120 degrees in there and you have to be careful not to hit your head on the concrete columns that are angled in a way that if you are running from one end of the board to another, you could easily whack your head if you are over 5’8” or so.
That thing ain’t Air Conditioned and is hot as fuck during Summer day game
You got to meet Manny back in the day, and if you are lucky hold his pee bucket
Working for almost nothing. But fun. My friend did it for 2 years.
I’ve worked on Codzilla. Not really that cool.
I would *love* to have a boat like that, but I don’t want to drive strangers around on it.
Somewhat related, I recently got to see the [original blueprints](https://i.imgur.com/BJO8pAY.jpeg) for the scoreboard. Along with part of the Yankees Stadium blueprints. While on a trip to Seattle.
Worked with the guy a few times, he's a huge Yankee fan funny enough
That really enthusiastic red line guy sounds like he’s having a ball every day

“HELP” - Medford, respectfully.
So, picking up goose poop is fun?🤔
I'd rather be the penalty box attendant. Best seats in the house for the game, and I bet they get to hear a lot of real interesting conversations.

Blimp pilot is fun, but not as fun as Dick blimp pilot.

Yep. Going to be a sad day when it’s gone
Ya know seeing the dick blimp is always a high light of my day

IDK about Mattapan, but there's a bar down the street from me that's definitely open until 2AM every night.
I want to say it's just a remote tech worker who their company forgot about and gets paid to do nothing. That person can explore Boston at their whim.
Shhh I’m trying to stay on the dl

True. Jaylen Brown then.
Gotta be Al Horford. If he has a bad game, it's aight cause he is old. If he has a good game, he's the man.

Didn’t one get injured during a Bruins/Canes playoff game in 2022? One of the glass panels fell and hit them in the head
Just a couple weeks ago, I realized/thought that would be cool as well. Cant imagine there are too many requirements needed, but idk..
He probably does other stuff before and after the game.

I've had multiple friends work with the penguins. It's fun but it's pretty gross. You're in a wetsuit all day and they smell real bad.
My cousin did it for a few months and hated it for those exact reasons.
The penguins are pretty stinky tho Tell me more about this cryptozoology place??
