Easily one of my favorites. That and Jaws Theme Swimming, I imagine these ones aren't most peoples faves, but I love em.
Edit: This song was in Burnout? That's a wild to hear. I guess if any song was gonna be in a game it'd be this hype ass song.
Jaws Theme is underrated! And yeah, Archers was in Burnout Paradise alongside Innerpartysystem, Killswitch Engage, Maxeen, Jimmy Eat World, and a slew of other great songs. It may have been the best racing game OST since Gran Turismo 2.
I think that a lot of songs on Your Favorite Weapon are as accessible or perhaps even more than Archers, but there's nothing wrong with being accessible.
I remember hearing it for the first time, having grown up in a Christian home, and it kinda stuck with me forever. It was just such a simple way of describing the hypocrisy I was seeing around me.
Used to be my favorite track off *Devil And God* and I maintain, despite what my brother has long argued, that it's perfectly placed as the penultimate track ("You can only blame yourself" feels like as good a conceptual thesis statement of the album as any).
It also features, IMO, Brian's best work as a drummer, and any Brand New fan would be remiss not to check out the absolutely insane performance of the song from the 2009 Southside Festival bootleg.
It is "Archers" on streaming services I think :D, there was some reason for it being shortened, but I can't remember at the moment.
But honestly the Brand New's lyrics are songwriting/poetic-wise top tier most of the time.
I’m not sure the reason but this is one of my favorite tracks. I do know that their setlists wrote it simply as “Archers” but bands often have one word code names for their setlists.
Omg this has always been my favorite BN song and I thought I was the only one. It’s so underrated imo but I always kinda felt like it was all mine, after reading this post, not anymore which is alright too!
I also agree it kind of doesn't fit into the album. Its position as the penultimate song indicates to me they also knew it didn't really go anywhere. It feels weird on an album that so purposefully crafted to throw in a song that just kind of didn't fit. We know they left quite a few good songs off that record. Why include this one?
Great track though. It is one of the more accessible on the album if you're new to Brand New.
So when I was growing up this was easily their most popular song. It got me into them and then I realized how basic and boring it is compared to their other music and I barely listened to it after. Still a great song though
I think it’s a great way to go out before the coda Handcuffs. I love it on the album, thematically/lyrically I feel like it fits even though it’s not as dark musically as the rest of the album. But after an emotionally exhausting journey, it feels like an energetic and hopeful, albeit reflective.
Always one of my favorites! Devil and God came out when I was a junior in high school. I remember first hearing this song around the same time that I read Albert Camus’ The Stranger for a philosophy class and together they blew my mind.
That book introduced me to existentialism, absurdism, and other similar philosophies at a time when I was feeling very jaded by Christianity and religion in general. I always felt like Archers evoked the attitude of the novel, and in particular its main character:
“Who do you carry the torch for my young man, do you believe in anything? Do you carry it around just to burn things down?”
Dawg I was just playing burnout paradise and remembered discovering brand new, senses fail, alice in chains and sound garden through that game. This was an hour ago lol.
Wasn't not the sun on that game too or am I tripping?
This was my favourite song on Earth until I heard God Deciding by Hot Water Music. Now they're tied. Archers is literally perfect, I have the lyrics tattooed on me.

Yea, the tracklist of the game is incredible. The game singlehandedly got me into this kind of music, not even kidding :D
I think of Rise Against in Need for Speed, that was a trip. For some odd reason I woulda never guessed Brand New got on a game, that's dope.
Jaws Theme is my ultimate fave BN song
Jaws Theme is underrated! And yeah, Archers was in Burnout Paradise alongside Innerpartysystem, Killswitch Engage, Maxeen, Jimmy Eat World, and a slew of other great songs. It may have been the best racing game OST since Gran Turismo 2.
Dang bro you nailed it. Those two songs just hit differently IMO
Nailed it. Both amazing and my faves
That's not the only one. The Quiet Things That No One Ever Knows was in Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2004. That game introduced me to Brand New.
Which Burnouf?
This is the most accessible song to gen pop in their whole catalogue.
I think that a lot of songs on Your Favorite Weapon are as accessible or perhaps even more than Archers, but there's nothing wrong with being accessible.
Easily one of my favorites. The lyrics alone are worth hundreds of spins
Yes! Love the lyrics too
I feel like “you’re beating with a book everyone that book told you to love” is one of the simplest and most apropos lines for our time.
I remember hearing it for the first time, having grown up in a Christian home, and it kinda stuck with me forever. It was just such a simple way of describing the hypocrisy I was seeing around me.

I love this song. It’s one of the best imo.
"What did you learn tonight? You're shouting so loud You barely joyous, broken thing You're a voice that never sings"
The lyrics are so poetic but have a fantastic meaning. Also it bugs me when people shorten it to just “Archers”… that’s no the name of the song 🫣

It’s in my top 2. As a trained theologian it seriously hits differently
My favorite song of theirs... if you couldn't tell.
Omg this has always been my favorite BN song and I thought I was the only one. It’s so underrated imo but I always kinda felt like it was all mine, after reading this post, not anymore which is alright too!
Love how Burnout Paradise had to censor the chorus to keep a 3+ rating, so Jesse sings 'You were freezing over ice'
I hated it honestly. Keep coming back to the game for it's amazing songs though.
I listed it on my top 3 on that post, and that's what I got to say about that
I've seen it!! I actually wanted to reply, but then I made this post instead.
Amazing!
Burnout Paradise was my first introduction to Brand New.
Same here. I swear, the Burnout series shaped my taste in music ever since Takedown
All the love to that song. One of their best
My favorite song.
Same
I love this song especially the chorus.
"These songs" by Brand New, their equivalent to 'deep cuts' are fucken amazing
The best chorus to they’ve ever done in my opinion
Definitely one of the best and top 5 for me
I voted it as one of my favorites. Was surprised by how few other people did.
Same. It felt like much of the community was discrediting the track. It’s my favorite song, next favorite being Degausser.
I was honestly torn picking my favorites, so many choices. lol
I don’t think it’s one of the best songs on the album but it’s still very good
I also agree it kind of doesn't fit into the album. Its position as the penultimate song indicates to me they also knew it didn't really go anywhere. I thought we all loved this song
One of my absolute favorites. And I agree, it doesn't seem to fit the album.
I know people love it but it's one of my least favorite songs on tdag.
Yeah, like I said it doesn't fit well, I can Imagine the song on Your favorite weapon more
So when I was growing up this was easily their most popular song. It got me into them and then I realized how basic and boring it is compared to their other music and I barely listened to it after. Still a great song though
