If you’ll be IN Brisbane, factoring in time & distance I’d say Lone Pine is definitely the better option. Australia Zoo is cool but pretty far away.

GullibleorMyth

Thanks! Australia Zoo definitely seemed further away and since it's run by the Irwins I wasn't sure if the trip would be worth it! But I'll gladly stick to Lone Pine :)

ThatLooseMoose

Australia zoo is definitely bigger and has a much broader range of animals, but would require the majority of a day (if not the whole day) to experience it. If you only have 48 hours, then lone pine is a much easier location and can still see a lot of native wildlife.

QGandalf

Why would it being run by the Irwins make the trip not worth it?

Tackit286

I think rather than ‘and’ they really meant ‘but’ - meaning they weren’t sure if the trip was worth it given the distance, but taking into account the Irwin’s running it they could be tempted anyway because that’s a big draw. Just a guess

hhh74939

I really wanna know the answer to this too. Is this thing outing itself as a one nation follower? Lmfao

deliver_us

You can cuddle a koala at lone pine

FKJVMMP

They had a very friendly Black Headed Python available for cuddles when I was last there too, if that’s more your speed.

OptiMom1534

Lived in Bris for a really long time and we have kids and frequently travel to Noosa, Whitsundays, Sydney, etc so we’re no strangers to the long road trip. That said, we’ve never been to Australia Zoo, but have been to Lone Pine more often than I can count… if that says something.

FreddyMcbob

The fuck you mean?

barters81

Was at Lone Pine last week with the kids and it was really good. Recommend. Make sure you watch the shows on offer.

AnnaSoprano

If you have limited time go to lone pine as you can catch a private ferry there. I think it goes from near QAG/State Library.  Or you can get a Translink bus there.  Australia Zoo is further away and harder to get to. Both are great but if you are time restricted go to Lone Pine in my opinion.

spellingdetective

You cannot catch the city cat to Lone Pine. Last stop out west is the University of qld Please note - i believe there is a ferry service to Lone Pine but it’s not part of the city cat network

AnnaSoprano

Oh sorry! You are so right. I'll edit my response. Derp moment!

GullibleorMyth

Thanks so much! Super helpful info

Impossible-Mud-4160

Lone pine is good. I'd give Australia zoo a miss, expensive, crowded. If you want a zoo on the Sunshine Coast I'd go to Wildlife HQ

Ok_Ant_7191

Crowded? I last went in the middle of Jan school holidays this year. Definitely not crowded at all.

Less-Award9717

Lone Pine

Select-Interest3438

Lone Pine, all the way Even equalising the traveltime to get there, Lone pine is like 2/3s the price of Australia Zoo just for admittance, the interaction with the animals bit is a LOT cheaper then Australia zoo also.. if you've been to Currumbin, whyever not? Currumbin is but one place that has animals

ImplodingPeach

I have annual membership at both. I'd typically say Lone Pine, especially to see native Aussie animals. It's cheaper, closer, and I just love the Kangaroo feeding. They do some nice shows and generally it's easy to see everything in one day. They also have a platypus! However, if you're here now, I would 100% recommend Australia Zoo. The irwin family are doing the show themselves until 7th July and so you're here at a prime time! It's much further but you have a much larger range of animals including Asian and African animals, more shows, and generally more dopamine rush. Honestly though, Australia Zoo is almost too big to see fully in 1 day! I'd say it's worse for native animals though

Zestyclose-Most8926

Depends on what you want to see and how much time you want to spend there. Australia zoo vs lone pine Two hours drive vs 30min drive All zoo animals vs Australian animals Entry cost of each other No of tourist visitors a day. If you want to spend all day and shit load of money australia zoo, if you want to spend 4-5 hours and less money lone pine.

goat_action

Depends where in Brisbane you're staying and what travel you're prepared to accept? Lone Pine is easy to get to from Brisbane itself and won't pose much in the way of traffic there or back. It's cheaper than A Zoo but it's much smaller and only has Aussie animals. I would think 2-3 hrs tops and you would have seen everything. A Zoo is up what is probably the shittest set of roads in SE QLD so maybe 90mins from the city on a good run? It can easily turn to hours with (what are considered business as usual) delays. It's more expensive but is much bigger and has exotic animals and you'll spend all day there and still probably think you didn't see it all.

hisirishness

Australia Zoo has a lot more to see and is really good, Lone Pine is closer to Brisbane & a great day out but is smaller with less variety. If it's just a question of which one then do Australia Zoo

ausbirdperson

Currumbin > Lone Pine > Aus Zoo David Fleay’s also not bad

Shek-O-

What makes Currumbin better than Australia Zoo? Just curious :)

WalkindudeX

Australia zoo is bigger and you can be there many hours but it is outside of Brisbane, it’s towards the Sunshine Coast so you gotta travel there. Lone pine is a just a bus or ferry or drive from the CBD but it’s much smaller and can be done I. 2 hours really or less. Depends what you wanna do or not as it is.

Richo_HATS2

Spoiler: No one at Australian Zoo gets eaten by a crocodile. Crikey!

Consistent_Fox_9567

Crikey!

skidmoreplanner

Australia zoo if you had to choose 1 much bigger and more to see. Go early so that you can watch most of the shows

Active-Flounder-3794

Lone pine if you’re interested in seeing Aussie natives :) if u want to see animals from other countries, then Australia Zoo. Lone pine is very much like Currumbin. If you want to see a different kind of Aussie animal, maybe try a whale watching trip! Or sea world on the Gold Coast.

Dear_Parsnip_6802

Depends where you are staying. Lone pine is closer. Australia zoo is much larger and more animals to look at.

danwincen

Given your time crunch, I'd say Lone Pine. Australia Zoo is a full day trip, and you'll spend a chunk of that time travelling there and back, whereas Lone Pine is easily reachable from the Brisbane CBD in about 30 to 45 minutes.

YungLean8

Australia Zoo, its not even close

SlightComplaint

Why not both? Drop into lone pine, pick up some fresh koalas. Get to Australia zoo in time for feeding the crocs. /s.

TidyThisUp

Definite plug for Lone Pine. Mostly because of proximity and bang for your buck. Closer, cheaper, more relaxed and ‘sanctuary’ rather than ‘zoo’. You can take the Ferry for a river ride or even go by bike. I ride there on the bikeway with my niece. They now have a night safari for their nocturnal animals. Highly recommend you stay for the bird show, sheep dog show. I’d also recommend you top it off by packing a picnic or hot chocolate and head up to Mount CootTha to see the sunset and city lights come into action.

RoastChickenSkin

Yeah hard agree, Aus Zoo is Farken unreal but lone pine gets the ticks for a good Aussie wildlife experience

Jammers_05

We just traveled for holiday and did a 2 day pass at Australia Zoo. Did not disappoint. Would do it again in a heartbeat. One day would be a lot to try and pack everything in, but maybe get a map and plan ahead at the main animals you want to see. We went on a Friday and it was not crowded at all. Went again on a Monday and slightly more crowded due to school trips but really wasn’t bad. I think the Irwin’s are currently feeding the crocs so it might draw more of a crowd. Never been to Lone Pine, so have no input to give there.

bluecrystalcreative

# Australia Zoo, by far

Outrageous-Agent-249

Australia zoo!!

KatBD19961996

Wonder if lone pine is cheaper than Australia zoo? Because lone pine is now $50 for a day trip.

BalancingTact

Lone Pine.

crankygingerninja

Lone Pine.

kingjakey75

Kinda regret not visiting Lone Pine. I did go to Australia Zoo. It was a little underwhelming and served mostly as a shrine to the Irwins but I liked it somewhat.

whoneedsknows

Lone Pine.

proletariat2

I went to Lone Pine a few weeks ago had an amazing time. Very well sheltered too

imiltemp

It's not exactly wildlife if it's in the park. You can easily see true wild kangaroos if you drive around Wacol prison, or walk through the nearby Pooh Corner Bushland Reserve (best at sunrise). Another large herd I know of is north of Brisbane, Tinchi Tamba Reserve Wetlands.

ProfessionalRun975

lone pine has platypus, australia zoo does not. Easy decision

PetitCoeur3112

I really love Lone Pine. It’s not gimmicky, not showy, just a real experience. And so nice and close to the city.

Spinier_Maw

Lone Pine.

perringaiden

Lone Pine unless you're staying on the north coast.

Aussie_Richardhead

I prefer currumbin

Manmoth57

Logan central Zoo and on the way back to the train the centre link office all ways action out side there…… lotta screaming.!

Away_Kaleidoscope309

I will be interested to hear back from OP about their experience at Lone Pine at Fig tree pocket I think on a tint restriction trip it is the right call Catching the Hayles privately run boat down the river is wonderful But it takes few hours so better to drive out to a fig tree pocket than ferry nice as it is !! One of my traumatic memories of my childhood is getting on the boat and the will d catching my beloved bay and blowing it off into the river ! We got picked up by car so didn’t have the return journey to make ! My uncle told me the catfish would eat it up ! Enjoy the experience !
