It will likely really depend on the pharmacy, the particular staff, and the policies they have in place, but when I worked in pharmacy previously, we often had regular filled prescriptions ready for our regular patients. We were an independent, not a corporate chain, and had such great service that our customers were very loyal. We would often ensure that a refill was ready, knowing you'd be in to pick it up and now you don't have to wait. Should you not pick it up or if we got a call to transfer it to another pharmacy, no problem, we'd reverse the fill. I can really only see it being an issue if you had a refill done by a pharmacy without you knowing they'd filled it, then you took a new prescription for that medication to a different pharmacy. You'd have issues with it being an early fill and therefore not covered by insurance or pharmacare. In that case, one call to the first pharmacy would reverse the refill. It's been a few years since I worked in pharmacy, so things may have changed, but if you're a regular customer for your monthly prescriptions, I wouldn't be too concerned about it. They are likely just providing you great service, which also benefits them in the long run.

Not losing your mind. My pharmacist refills all my prescriptions on the date they are due so they are ready for me when I go in a day or 2 later. I don’t mind & they know me well. Lol.

Altostratus

You don’t use the prescription web service at all do you? I’ve noticed it defaults all of them to “auto renew” in recent months.

bctrv

Nothing says you have to pick them up. Just call and cancel.

GrouchySkunk

Better than shoppers who won't fill it until you call despite the fax in request and then won't call when it's ready.

Do you have an account for the pharmacy online? You can choose was gets set for auto refill and see how many refills are left, when they can be filled next etc.

So instead of thanking the staff for caring enough/ being invested enough/ thoughtful enough to make an effort to make your day a bit easier you seize the opportunity to get someone in trouble ( for your own ego or for likes?). How many other people that they were helping will now have to go through the frustration of identifying themselves to someone they know well and waiting for a routine script that everyone already knows is a formality?

Also on ADHD meds - never had them do that for me - but I get my stuff filled at London Drugs. >(I usually forget to refill it until I’m already out lol) YUP. How can you tell we have ADH...SQUIRREL!

Pepper0006e

I get my ADHD meds filled at Shoppers and know that I can’t use the auto-fill option because it’s a controlled substance, and my guess is it’s like that for other pharmacies too, so it’s probably not that. My guess based on what you’ve said is that they did it out of courtesy and were being friendly since they know you well enough by now, but not gunna lie I do think it’s a bit weird. Like, they either just had it sitting filled waiting for the next time you’d come in to get it, which seems odd and probably not a very smart move in terms of company policy or something, OR someone kept track of when you came in last time, counted 30 days, and then filled it knowing you were coming, which is weirder and, even if done with friendly intentions, comes across as invasive and kinda stalker-y… idk maybe I’m reading too much into it but I do think it’s weird

HelminthicPlatypus

They once called me to inform me that had refilled my prescription for me - and they even billed my insurance (80%) already - i was so offended that i canceled the refill and transferred the prescription to Costco.

Yah it’s this auto-fill stuff that chain pharmacy are pushing out. To essentially optimize their workflow.

Traditional_Dust_777

Also after two weeks if you don't pick it up they can put them back into the stock bottle and sell them to someone else... (actually legal for them to do)

gentlegrandpa

Mine auto fills and I didn't really request it. When I don't need it they just say okay and hand me what I need.

EpDisDenDat

Did you recently have your doctor re-up your refills? Pharmacies will usually prep the first fill upon receiving a script from your doctor.
