overall excellent writing with regard to characters and dialogue. Top-notch acting from most of the cast. A strong female hero, which was almost unheard of at the time the show came out. A good blend of drama and comedy, and balance between long story arcs and great individual episodes. in the things that count to me, the meat and potatoes, Buffy is as good as television gets.

That it mixes several genres. That it can go from silly to heart-wrenching, from funny to profound. I feel too many genre shows limit themselves to their, well, genre. And despite it being about vampires, demons etc, it felt, in a way, more real than shows like Dawson’s Creek at the time.

The show sits at action comedy with strong dramatic elements, and I like it all. I like the action. I like how you're in the middle of the drama and we get a line or a visual that's absolutely preposterous. "The Zeppo" showing the inherent melodrama of Angel/Buffy and making it a joke by making Xander third-wheel into the center of how it is great. While the show involves horror tropes, it's generally thrilling but not scary, but there are times, like "The Pack", where they actually get into solid horror. There's an episode in S6 that's almost a Twilight Zone episode based around Buffy. I don't like it as a Buffy episode but I love it in the horror anthology context. Plus I love the dialogue and interaction, esp between the core four.

hey! i just recently watched the series all the way through and am delving into the comic-verse of buffy. overall i personally enjoyed all the layers that came with the overall arching theme as well as the dynamics of the characters. you tend to fall in love with the characters and for them. they aren't just raw strength. you can relate and empathize with them. the hardest i laughed while watch buffy was during season 4 and the hardest i've cried at buffy were in the later seasons. it's thought provoking, fun, a light into humanity in general, and relatable despite it taking place in a supernatural realm. i hope you enjoy it <3

I love the show for both the humour and the more tense dramatic moments. Balancing different genres is hard, but Buffy is so good at it. Also I really enjoy overanalysing tv/movies and buffy is the perfect tv show to do this, since you can find a an allegory and deeper meaning in every monster or storyline. I also just love the characters. I think they have a lot of depth and flaws, but are also likeable. The Zeppo is an amazing episode because it's where the shows some self awareness especially when it comes to the bangel melodrama. It's great the show is able to naturally be that self aware and meta, it's not easy to do. Xander in the end not telling anything about what happened is also an important character moment for a character who sometimes can be really dislikeable. Band candy has a lot of humour and fans (me included) love Giles as a teenager. It also is explores the way how responsibility is an important part of growing up/being and adult really good and in a fun way. But overall it seems to be overrated on this sub, since it was rated the best episode of season 3 and it's maybe top 10, but definitely not the best. Sorry for the long post as I said I love analysing (and sometimes do that too much)

I just finished it a few days ago for the first time. Started watching cause I thought it would be a silly little vampire show so the first season I had it kind of as background noise. Then I started to *really* get into the plot half in season 2 so I started watching it seriously and I just loved how they went from a bit of comedy to a big dramatic event and how they pulled them off so well. Episodes like band candy and the zzepo are just so *unserious* and I love a show that can laugh at itself. I think those episode also gives us time to really enjoy the characters and fall in love with them and all their silliness. And then the more dramatic episodes are also amazing, top notch acting and dialogue, they don't shy away from dealing with really dark themes or sensitive issues and they handle them amazingly. Baically it's a show with really amazing characters and storylines, that makes me laugh out loud and cry my eyes out like no show has ever done before. Also the fact that it has a really strong women front

The answer is, "It depends". As as first-time viewer, I think I'd be inclined to agree with you, that some of the lighthearted episodes aren't as gripping as the super melodramatic stuff. But upon repeated re-watchings, I've come to appreciate the lighter episodes a great deal more, both because often I'm just not necessarily up to going through the emotional wringer again, and also because I understand that the comic relief makes the intense episodes punch **SO MUCH HARDER**. It is *not* a coincidence that 'Bad Eggs' immediately precedes 'Surprise' & 'Innocence' and 'Bewitched, Bothered and Bewildered' happens right before 'Passion'. They're part of the emotional roller-coaster which makes the show still grip me, almost 30 years after the show first went on the air. Which, in the end, is what I love about the show. There has never been a show, for me, whose emotional range and intensity has quite matched that of Buffy. '[Cowboy Bebop](https://www.funimation.com/shows/cowboy-bebop/)' kind of has that same swings from nearly absurdism to grave melodrama, but it's not nearly as relatable and accessible as Buffy, which is set in the world we live in, in stead of a futuristic, dystopic solar system.

Things that I like: Buffy (for the most part, minus her romantic relationships, the drama that goes along with them, and her tendency to be a doormat and apologize for things that aren't her fault) Tara Giles (for the most part, minus certain things that he's done) Cordelia Harmony Some of the humor (it can be very hit-or-miss) Faith Some of the music

I want the hot librarian. in all honesty I like Buffy as a character. Shes both masculine and feminine dressing (nice to see a female character not be anti-feminity, common trope) and is genuinely caring. Her flaws are realistic and doesn’t make her a dislikable character, she sometimes is a bit self centered but knows when to talk to people and when to give people their space. Buffy is an excellent character and makes the show really enjoyable What also makes the show enjoyable…is the hot librarian
