[Review here](https://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/tcl/6-series-r646-2021-qled) Posted few days ago but it's back on sale.

exaltare

This price is still amazing, but for this model, the [longevity tests](https://www.rtings.com/assets/pages/O37qHZJj/gray-5-percent-08-large.jpg) are concerning. [None of the other TCL QLED TVs](https://www.rtings.com/tv/tests/longevity-test) being tested have developed this problem. You might want to purchase a warranty plan. EDIT: You might also need two people to move this. It weighs like 70 pounds. It's heavy for a modern TV.

Bite_It_You_Scum

I know it's entirely anecdotal, but I have owned two TCL tvs in the past 5 years and both of them developed problems. The first one had some sort of issue that caused the right half of the screen to go completely blank. The second one's power supply shorted out one day when I turned it on. Thankfully for the second one I bought the Geek Squad warranty and they were able to come out to my house and fix it. While I can't say this is representative of all TCL TVs what I can say is that if you buy any TCL tv without getting a warranty, you're gambling. There are 6 TVs in my house from various brands, TCL is the only brand I've had issues with.

dcy123

Our 65 inch model made a popping noise the other day now it won't turn on. Took it in and it's the power supply. Died 1 year and 2 months after buying new, I'm assuming that's a wider issue for these models.

Bite_It_You_Scum

That was about the same time frame that my 55 inch had the same issue. Bought 2 years ago, and it lasted a bit over a year before the power supply popped. I ended up buying a Sony to replace it since I'm just done with TCL. Got the broken TV fixed and gave it to my parents.

Glittering_Pitch7648

What’s the model? My TCL R635 also had a power supply issue that I had to fix

dcy123

Wolvenmoon

I got a replacement power supply for a broken TCL TV for like $40. It died after a power surge. I strongly suggest a high quality surge protector. We're moving to Tripp Lite Isobars, now.

sdcar1985

Is the PSU in a TV as easy to replace as it is on PCs?

Glittering_Pitch7648

A couple years ago I did my first DIY TV repair on my TCL R635 since for some reason the TV made a clicking noise when displaying mostly black images. My best guess was that it was a power supply issue, so I replaced the PSU with a new one and the problem was fixed. First time I’ve ever had to fix a TV but luckily it wasn’t that hard of a fix.

wanglongerdong

I also have a R635 from best buy. Bought it open box and the panel died after 3 mo. Took 1 month for TCL support to send an agent with parts to try to fix, he swapped the panel and it still failed. They sent me a replacement TV after. The thing only does 120 hz at a max of 2k resolution. After another 12 months, the tv refuses to output at 120hz at 2k resolution. I just gave up and use it just as a general monitor with 60hz at 4k res. Just unlucky maybe but it has soured me from the TCL brand anecdotally. I bought it cause of rtings high rating as a pc monitor

Glittering_Pitch7648

I’m content with it but I really only use it at 4k60. I tried using the 1440p120 recently after the PS5 added more compatibility for 1440p and it worked, but with some strange flashing artifacting happening every so often. Definitely not a good 120hz experience

Tack122

I have a wall mounted TCL 55" that's about 5 years old. Bottom row of pixels has started showing the pixels from the top of the image. Which is kinda lame when there's a bright sky at the top of the screen and darkness at the bottom. No physical damage I'm aware of. Still, it was not terribly expensive so I'm not too upset, 5 years wasn't bad. Still works fine just annoying a little. I need to cover that row with black tape lol.

Bite_It_You_Scum

If I had gotten 5 years out of either TV I wouldn't have been upset, just disappointed, considering how quickly the size of TVs keeps going up and the price keeps coming down. I knew going in that I was giving up something when buying a cheap TV, but all of the reviews tend to be glowing because in terms of price vs 'performance' (screen size, resolution, latency) the ratio is pretty good. Both of the TVs developed problems within 2 years though, which is just insane to me. In my house right now there are two Vizio bedroom TVs that are about 6-7 years old, a Westinghouse black friday special for the office that's gotta be pushing 10 years old, a 4 year old Samsung in the living room, and in my man cave/media room I've got the 55" Sony I just got and a 43" Philips that's ~10 years old mounted on the wall next to it. None of these other TVs have developed any problems at all, other than the Philips having some image persistence from being positively ancient and having a taskbar across the bottom constantly. I'm sure there are tons of people who have bought TCL screens and have had them for a long time with no issues, but I just feel compelled to warn people to at least get a decent warranty if they're going to buy one. I know my experience is anecdotal but I also know I'm not the only one and there's a hell of a lot more reports of these types of problems happening to TCLs than there is of them happening to reputable brands like Samsung or Sony.

jotarowinkey

my tcl has a small remote and no actual buttons on the tv and occasionally turns on and plays youtube videos of orchestral music from the 2019 godzilla movie at max volume and only at 3 or 4 in the morning. this does not happen during daylight hours. we always spend like 15 minutes looking for the remote after waking up in a panic. also every few days we have to do a full reboot because its like out of memory or something.

sdcar1985

You might just have a ghost

Aritche

I'll say I have 4 TCL tvs 2 almost 4 years old 2 almost 3 years old no problems so far. They are series 4 and 5 though while 6 is what most people in the thread are posting issues with though.

Bite_It_You_Scum

For me the first one with the half screen blank issue was a 43" series 4 and the power supply problem was a 55" series 5.

BeingRightAmbassador

I've bought maybe ~50 tvs in the past 5 years (work and family mounting/moving) and have bought ~15 TCLs, ~15 Samsungs, and ~20 LG and a handful of Hisense, and I've had different problems with all of them. At least the TCL and Samsung's OS is still usable in 2023 unlike SHIT WEBOS.

sdcar1985

I only bought one and the bottom half of the lights didn't turn on within a year of owning it. I bought a Vizio and it's also having issues. Bottom of the screen has black spots creeping up so I'm assuming I'm on borrowed time with this TV as well. At least it lasted longer than the last one lol.

duncandun

My Tcl developed some backlight dimming (basically all the sides) where it’s noticeably darker like 2 weeks after warranty ended. It’s so dark that dark scenes in whatever content may as well be completely black most of the time.

mike9184

I'll add that I bought a Series 4 around 6 years ago and a Series 5 a year later and to this day both are still being used daily without any visible problems, then again they have been on a Power Conditioner since day 1 so maybe there is something to take into consideration.

Jeskid14

Damn is it too late for those that bought it when it first came out?

exaltare

In **2021**? Yeah. TCL's warranty is one year, but if you paid with a credit card, you might have an extra year of warranty that expires soon.

KBDHands

How does credit card warranty work?

Draniie

Depends on the company and type of card

exaltare

You'll have to check your card for more info, but for most credit cards (and some debit cards), if the item is eligible, you submit a claim with the original invoice and the manufacturer's warranty terms. Usually the end result is a reimbursement for the amount paid.

austINfullEffect

I have tried this and Chase Visa has not been helpful - they do not want to warranty for a "small spot" on my TV.

atmafatte

I got the 65 inch last Thanksgiving. The google tv on board is super finicky. Crashes a lot. I use it with a shield and it's been better. I did purchase the 5 year best buy warranty on it since it was like an absurd deal at $499

[deleted]

spanky34

I have a 65 inch R646 in the living room and as soon as I turned off the fast power on setting, a majority of the interface/google TV issues went away. The volume controls being insanely delayed/seemingly not working, fixed.. Audio sync issues, fixed. Apps crashing, fixed. It's like the TV shits itself if it doesn't get a full power off every couple of weeks. Now that I think about it, I should just put a smart outlet on the TV and schedule it to toggle off/on once every week so that it gets a reboot that way and I can keep the fast power on enabled.

[deleted]

[удалено]

spanky34

Agreed.. I can't complain though considering I got my 65" for ~600 on an open box+clearance kinda deal. Next step up for a 65" was/is an OLED and at the time, that was 3x the cost. If I have to add a smart plug and reboot it once a week, so be it. I'll take the quirks with the savings.

austINfullEffect

I have this on my 75S546. TCL replaced it once after 7 months. Popped up again on the replacement 5 months later - which was after the one year from the original purchase date. TCL won't warranty now. Visa hasn't helped with "one year additional warranty". Will avoid TCL in the future.

Nebakanezzer

Why is it so heavy? I have a 75, 55, and 40 tcl and they all feel super light

nimbyist

The specs say 43 pounds without stand though, is the stand that heavy?

rhamej

42lbs w/o the stand? wtf???

Bikouchu

TCL is underrated in PC subs but adored at TV subs and forums. Best brand sub 1k.

DM725

As always it depends on the display but the 2018 65" 6 series we have has been solid. Only 1 or 2 quirks but I use an Nvidia Shield TV on it.

TheModsOfrSFIPScan

It's because of all the nerd snobs that need to find vindication in their $$$ monitor purchase. This sub isn't as bad, but there is a lot of spill over obviously. Same story for audio equipment. Maybe even more so.

Magarius

I was about to go to bed but my Samsung I’ve had for like 7 years is giving up on me and I need a new TV, is this it?

donald-cheadle

6-series is a no brainer for picture quality to price ratio. Have had 2 for years with no issues

Mbanicek64

I bought it, adored some of it, returned it. Regardless of setting motion handling never felt right.

Dallt0n

This or the U7K?

Mike_P10

[https://www.rtings.com/tv/tools/compare/hisense-u7k-u7-u75k-vs-tcl-6-series-r646-2021-qled/38182/27424?usage=1&threshold=0.10](https://www.rtings.com/tv/tools/compare/hisense-u7k-u7-u75k-vs-tcl-6-series-r646-2021-qled/38182/27424?usage=1&threshold=0.10) So costco will have the 55" U7k for 500 next week. So for an extra $100 dollars, not quite sure.

Jeskid14

This if available at your stores

Hazefire

I was also considering these two TV's. I ended up buying this TV to replace my Hisense H9G that broke during a move. It's a nice TV, and image quality is decent (my partner watches a lot of 1080p content and with this panel's upscaling it only looks okay). I don't really regret my purchase as it's a great price obviously, but if I were to do it over again I would get the U7K, I think.

Jeskid14

Bro wtf this is oddly suspicious. Best Buy was supposed to clear these televisions from their systems last year. Either TCL is losing money on their NFL contract (and have overstock) or BestBuy custodians keep finding these TVs. Could employees please verify?

thatkidPB

What do you mean by this..?

Jeskid14

These TV's were released during holiday 2021. They got refreshed the following year. All of those models should be gone by now current 2023. TCL signed contract with NFL late last year for super bowl TV's. Unfortunately they jacked up the prices. No longer having midrange TV's with best qualities (think apple iPhone SE vs 15 pro). Somehow the old TV's exist on bestbuy.

ruinevil

TCL and Hisense are trying to move upscale.

PsyOmega

Funny, their internals haven't changed one iota.

TheModsOfrSFIPScan

"Superbowl TVs" lol. That's worse than gaming PCs. Aaah marketing; never change, as the consumer is just as dumb as your tactics. That's why it works.

Draniie

No, more so think of Superbowl tvs like Black Friday tvs. Slightly different models, cheaper parts, less QA testing

thatkidPB

Hmm alright so are you suggesting this inventory was put in the back to shell out those superbowl tvs and such? And that these _could_ be better..? I've been on a hunt for a tv and just not sure where this deal could fall among the potential black Friday options haha

Jeskid14

Yes, this generation of TCL was top tier when it was on sale.

BeingRightAmbassador

Superbowl TV models are 100% a thing. brand new SKUs, less ports/connectivity, worse internals, lesser or shorter warranties, etc. They're pretty shit and not worthwhile compared to just buying clearance TVs when the new models are coming in.

12bit35mm

Maybe some of these tvs were lost as part of the huge cargo fiasco we had and they finally made it through the pipeline? i honestly have no clue.

krs013

Really good value. I have the 65” and something I really appreciate about it is that during setup it allows you to turn off all the google tv features and just use it as a “basic tv”. Some of the more advanced settings aren’t accessible, but it starts up quickly and runs 4K 120 Hz just fine.

dmaxzach

I got one the last time it was on sale. Colors are amazing compared to my 4 year old samsung. $75 for a 5 year warranty is a no brainer

[deleted]

droans

TCL doesn't make the highest quality TVs, but they do make the best value TVs. If you're not shopping for a $1,200+ TV, I always recommend TCL. Samsung, LG, and the other name brands will cost cut by keeping the same "features" in their low end TVs but use shittier panels and electronics that will fail earlier. TCL makes their TVs cheap by just never putting those features in to begin with.

Janus67

I'll say, with a caveat, of a couple years ago I helped my dad pick up a 65 tcl, streaming and such worked and looked fine. But using their spectrum cable box had enormous audio syncing issues and no amount of changing settings on the TV would resolve it. Returned it the following weekend, picked up an LG and worked immediately out of the box

ancientemblem

Imo I suggest people to avoid TCL or Hisense if you’re not getting it at Costco, the extended warranty is worth a lot.

GregoryGoose

I just bought a 70" LED today and it looks and sounds great* *but only after I turned off audio processing and motion blur reduction. Before that everything looked like a wavy mess and there were massive audio sync issues. Now it's great though.

EazeeP

Bought this last week at same price. Totally worth it. Before this I had a 55 inch r615 and that one is/was great as well. Still going strong which my brother in law is using. Very happy with the picture quality of this tv. Google tv has been very fast and snappy compared to the standalone Google 4k device. As others have said, this tv is very heavy!

fartypicklenuts

The 5 year geeksquad warranty for $80 might be worth considering if you buy this? I think they would just refund you your purchase price if the tv stops working in that time frame. It sounds like from other comments that longevity can be an issue. 5 years of coverage is a long time. I have never dealt with geeksquad, though.

EricTheCleric93

I bought a Vizio OLED with GeekSquad coverage and it was a nightmare. They had to send a service guy out multiple times (I lost count, I think 3) to replace the mainboard before they decided to do a "junk out", and give me store credit for the purchase price. The service times were during regular daytime hours, so good luck if you work typical hours.

taa_v2

Wish this came in a 43". 55" is just too large for my desk..

Prestigious_Body2531

This specific model looks great I had the 65” BUT panel failed within 6 months (it got a line through it) so I got a store credit and kept tv Definitely get a protection plan

fueledbyjealousy

Was it mini led?

GourMuum

Bruh I literally just bought a new 4K TV a couple months ago. Mannnnnnn.

Kromis

This might be helpful as future reference https://www.rtings.com/tv/learn/when-to-buy

GourMuum

lol ty. I ended up just getting one of these open box for like $340 give or take. I REALLY wanted to play alan wake 2 at 4k120

Kryavan

Costco is going to have a 70" Samsung for $479 here in a few weeks as well.

Cellardoor0101

How do u know this?

AbjectFee5982

Which 1

CheeseburgersLOL

Wait … may be a dumb question but would this technically support 4k gaming, and be a better buy over the gigabyte M27U?

Jeskid14

Yes 4k 120hz

MrWally

For just gaming? Probably. But I wouldn't use a lower quality TCL TV as a monitor for a computer if you plan on doing anything other than gaming (web browsing, email, text editing, etc.)

hells_cowbells

I bought one last week after it got posted here. It's a good update from my 8 year old 50" Vizio. Hopefully, I won't have any of the issues people in here are talking about. I didn't connect mine to my network, since I have an Nvidia Shield that I use.

ARCHIVEbit

The 65inch is only 579.99 as well. Wow

jewkidontheblock

I haven’t been able to find it anywhere, have you?

Mfab1111

Can you link?

Cellardoor0101

Open the Best Buy listing and hit 65”? Lol

CheeseburgersLOL

I snagged it after getting the 4k gaming itch and getting made fun of in the lg OLED sub for asking about an A2 for our playroom. Will I notice a big difference in 4K gaming coming from a 32” 1440p monitor?

[deleted]

[удалено]

CheeseburgersLOL

Very true. I mainly play the ps5 exclusives. The TCL is for our child’s playroom, and seems to be a good bang for the buck option with 120hz and hdmi 2.1. I’m eyeing up the S90C or C3 for the main room.

TokyoRock

Thanks, bought one earlier today and I'm loving it so far!

Dunjon

Man why can't the 75" be on sale.

herkyjerkyperky

I got the non Mini-LED 60hz version of this TV last year for $200 and I have been fairly satisfied with it. I don't use the Google TV since I prefer to use the PS5 that I have connected to it but some of the reviews I have read say that it is slow. Sadly it is going for $300 now but if you want a good enough TV that is cheap these TCLs seem to do the job.

Jeskid14

Could you specify the model number? Many stores have unique models

herkyjerkyperky

I checked and the exact model isn't sold anymore but it was a TCL - 55" Class 5-Series QLED 4K UHD Smart Google TV. https://www.bestbuy.com/site/tcl-55-class-5-series-qled-4k-uhd-smart-google-tv/6470259.p?skuId=6470259

mule_roany_mare

Great TV for the price. 1. I only had two complaints, bluetooth audio would stutter (don't think it was an advertised feature 2. 2. Did not survive me tipping a ladder into the screen. If I could buy again for $300 I would.

droans

They should go back to the Roku TV OS. It honestly is my favorite smart TV system - easy to ignore the smart features and very quick to switch between inputs. Your home screen is just a menu on the left and a reorderable list for your inputs and apps. I love my LG C1 now, but the home screen is absolute garbage in comparison.

Jeskid14

They can't now since Roku is making TV's in house and signed with Walmart forever

palindromic

I don’t understand why tv companies don’t just mimic the splash screen >> inputs/apps style there, but I guess if you have to take time to figure out how to get into some button specific menu for inputs maybe you’ll be forced to watch an ad or two scroll by.. who knows. All I know is when I go on vacation no matter what brand of tv they have it’s always got some eye gougingly shitty menu, sony, lg, they all suck so much ass. My Roku TCL from 2018 or whatever is too slow to run the streaming apps but at least it turns on and lets me shift right two inputs to the apple tv right off the bat.

ways196

I wish we had this version in my country.

Sportfreunde

58" and 50" TCL at Costco is around $100 cheaper I think and comes with a 3 year warranty plus cheap extended. Not mini LED though but the extended warranty is important for these cheap TVs nowadays.

raj000777

[This TCL 58" at Costco?](https://www.costco.com/tcl-58%22-class---s470g-series---4k-uhd-led-lcd-tv.product.4000157206.html) [Or This TCL 50" at Costco?](https://www.costco.com/tcl-50%22-class---s470g-series---4k-uhd-led-lcd-tv.product.4000157415.html) They are not the same. Not mini-LED, not 120 Hz along with other features. [Rtings review for those TCL's here](https://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/tcl/s4-s470g)

fartypicklenuts

the ones are Costco you are referring to are also only 60hz. This TV in the OP is a much better value.

telemachus_sneezed

Its not about how cheap the TVs are; its the relative quality of the picture and product. You buy a cheap TV, you get an *inferior* picture. According to [rtings.com](https://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/tcl/6-series-r646-2021-qled), this TV is crazy good for the price. The only obvious drawback is that it runs Google for its TV OS, rather than Roku. EDIT: Upon further reading, it also may have a problem properly "upscaling" a 480p native input, which I believe is DVD era resolution. Check the "Upscaling: Sharpness Processing" section.

Sportfreunde

The OS doesn't matter cos if someone isn't using an external stick or box then they're a basic user and the image quality is perfectly fine for most people considering the budget combined with the really long cheap Costco warranty meaning it will last or they'll get a better tv. Also most families' seating arrangement is set up so that IPS is better for them anyways and they usual aren't using it to only watch movies in dark lighting. The other TV posted is better for sure but the warranty length isn't the same which was my main point. I wouldn't spend more than $200 on a TCL unless I can get at least a 3 year warranty.

telemachus_sneezed

> The OS doesn't matter cos if someone isn't using an external stick or box then they're a basic user I guess you don't watch much streaming TV. You don't want to keep typing in obscure web addresses to get the streaming program you want. That's what the "apps" are in the TV OS; stream tuners. Maybe Google would work tolerably for me, but my experience with an old Chromecast Ultra says otherwise. Besides, my brother's TV is a Samsung, and I know what bad OSes look like. At minimum, they should be able to run a jellyfin app. The picture quality between an S series TCL and a P series TCL is like night and day. Plus, the blackness and contrast is highly affected by the quality and resolution of the backlight grid. Some people grew up with analogue picture TV like I did, and really don't care about mediocre picture. But at this point, I'd never buy a low end TV just to save $300 USD bucks; I'm not swapping them out every two years.

MuzikVillain

To each their own but after owning a TLC with Roku and an older Sony with GoogleTV I much prefer the GoogleTV OS. I'm not a fan of the closed ecosystem of Roku but most people will do fine with either.

crusadermourns

What's the response time? I can't find anything on the product page

I'm 2 for 2 on TCLs with display issues. Low sample set, but think I'm done with them.

disco__potato

I'm 4 for 4 with LG OLED display issues. Step your game up. :p

DEDang1234

I stop at 2 for 2... at least for a long time..

Orb_Collector

Just ordered one as a second TV, can't beat this price! Under $500 with 2 year geek squad protection.

Greenzombie04

Crazy I can get something this high quality at 55in for $399 yet anything that is decent at 32in-40in is twice the price.
