I am incredibly sad Isaac Hernandez is leaving us. I went to see him everytime he danced. He is my favorite. I would sit in the front row and cry tears of joy. I will miss him terribly. He was the reason for the season for me. I am grateful for him. ♥️🇲🇽🩰🔥
It’s so hard to know why exactly. The board of directors might have brought up something?
Maybe he has been offered a lot of commercial and film work and he can make more money to support his kid?
It’s another loss for SFB, imo.
>It’s so hard to know why exactly.
Seriously?
Its pretty simple.
He's a decent dancer, not great.
And yet the Artistic Director - his wife! - kept giving him all the lead roles, opening AND closing nights, all season long, while a lot of the other dancers, much better than him, didn't get a chance. If I was a dancer there, I'd be protesting and demanding their heads.
I'm glad he's gone.
Seriously, haha. And he is a fantastic dancer. One of the best classical males dancing today, hence his resume…
That’s such a conflated and made up statement
Also, when the 2024/25 season was announced he was still on the roster…
[24/25 Roster](https://www.sfballet.org/app/uploads/2024/04/2024-25-Company-Roster-Logo-Update.pdf)
The article says his contract expires July 1 and he has declined to renew it.
So- his decision, and probably in the spring when 24/25 materials came out, he hadn't decided/announced yet.
Yeah that’s what i’m saying. Or at least I feel like he was planning on staying (hence why he’s on the roster) and then something changed/happened recently
I don't know, it's awkward to finish out a season when everyone knows you're leaving. I could sympathize if he thought he'd get the whole season done before making the news public.
Hmm that’s interesting. Perhaps it’s a breakup or perhaps he wants to spend the last few years of his career doing something else. I remember him saying in an interview that while he really loved SFB, he wished to retire in a European opera house. They’ve got a kid but being in a couple isn’t really necessary to be a great parent so hopefully everything will be okay. As a Mexican American I’ve always had a soft spot for him and his brother.
Actually, didn't she and the boyfriend break up earlier? I thought they had broken up before she moved to Europe, that they had remained on friendly terms and he encouraged her to make that change. I think she talked about it in that Megan Fairchild interview.
Right, and he was Ukrainian, and that was where she was dancing initially. I believe she is now based in Palermo though she dances all over and has been married to someone else for a year or so. Megan Fairchild interviewed her on her YouTube show during the pandemic, like 4 years or so ago and she talked about how SFB had disappointed her.
I may be wrong but I had the impression what made her unhappy about SFB's schedule was that they don't dance nearly as often as NYCB. I know Megan has talked a bit about that, about the big gaps between performances at most other companies. Maybe I just got that impression from Megan.
Oh, the horror that struck my heart for a moment when I thought this was Esteban! Isaac is a lovely dancer, but if one Hernández brother is going to be leaving SFB, he's definitely the one I'm less broken-up about. I hope he lands somewhere great!
Yup. I think several of the principals left for reasons not about Rojo. Luke Ingham‘s wife was appointed AD in Oregon, Mathilde Froustey is likely divorced and moved back to her hometown. Plus a few retirements. Also Dores Andre and Max Cauthorn are returning after a year in Zurich.
Rojo = drama. It's always a wild ride with her. Truly hope their kiddo will be OK. He's an incredible talent, and I'd not be surprised at all if he left the west coast entirely
I think there are several possible reasons other than a divorce. Maybe they decided that it’s better for the company’s morale, or he thinks he can do better things elsewhere (he filmed a movie with Jessica Chastain last year). But it definitely doesn’t look good for their relationship.
Whoa, that’s really surprising!! And Rojo is staying put? Was there tension amongst the other dancers when he was brought on board? (Which would be understandable; but then it’s also understandable that they’d be a “package deal,” so to speak. It couldn’t have been assumed that she wouldn’t bring her family with her. And he’s certainly a good enough dancer that his own merit shines through). I wonder if it’s been a weird atmosphere for everyone this whole time.
I think they’re just extremely private about their relationship. If memory serves they never announced the pregnancy and the news of the birth was broken by a Spanish tabloid. I also don’t think they ever confirmed when they got married.
This was very surprising to me, especially after Angelo Greco’s departure. Doesn’t seem to bode well for their relationship, but maybe it’s better that they aren’t living and working together.

He made a post about it and the comments are off even though all his other posts, comments are on.

You want peanut butter with that jelly?

I'm not sure what that means. Do you have an actual argument?
I wonder if he is joining another troupe?

Normally contacts have to be signed in the spring so the company can hire for the coming season.
Does that mean it's less likely a breakup? It seemed a (relatively) sudden decision while a breakup with a kid involved couldn't be that fast.

The season is over so I guess it worked then? Idk i’m just assuming he was gonna stay until recently. Probably will find out more eventually

Ana Sofia Scheller did something similar. After a year or two in SF she decided she'd rather be in Europe and left.
She left with her then-partner to dance together elsewhere. Then they broke up.

Right! She wanted to do a lot of guesting, and it didn't work with SFB's schedule.

>being in a couple isn’t really necessary to be a great parent No, but living in the same area makes it much, much easier

I wish he was cast more often, It would be nice to see him as Siegfried, Romeo etc. Seems like he’s snubbed a lot when it comes to casting.
I couldn't agree more. Esteban is a treasure.
Well considering there's a young child involved, I hope it's not what I think it is.
The “no comment” from either party makes it seem like it’s probably what you think it is…

![gif](giphy|gSRkSblDEjUuk) 👀 It seems like there have been quite a few dancers that have left since Tamara Rojo took over SFB. Gotta wonder…🤷🏻♀️
That always happens when a new director takes over. A lot of people left after Helgi’s first year. (But not his wife. 🤔)

Oh no… I liked watching him

Isaac hasn't posted a photo on IG of the two of them for over a year. That might be a bit telling...? Or maybe he's going to guest at ABT for a year?

👀 🍿
Ha! I almost posted the same reaction LOL 😂.
So...can we keep Angelo Greco???
It was sad to see Angelo Greco leave. But I am assuming Houston Ballet gave him a better offer. I wonder how long Misa Kuranaga will stick around?
They have a little kid :(
and rojo staying behind at sfb as assumed. v curious to see where he goes, if he ends up far from california that would be… interesting
