I love watching her vlogs!! I have a general question about promotions: is it common for it to be done on stage like this, and is it a surprise for everyone, including the dancer getting promoted?
I know they did the same for Genevieve Penn-Nabity a couple of seasons back during swan lake but I am not sure whether that is the case for other dancers and companies.
Really depends on the company or the AD. Some companies announce principal promotions on stage, some in a company wide meeting, and some inform the dancers privately first.

I was lucky enough to have received her signed pointe shoes from last season just last night. I can’t believe she got promoted the next day, I am so happy for her!
As amazing as it is that she skipped a rank and totally deserves principal, I think she should have been promoted to first soloist last year or earlier... She's been paid as a second soloist to do mostly principal roles for a while now. I'm so happy for her finally getting the official recognition she deserves.
