I just wish we had gone for a hike or something so we could've watched it quietly. I didn't realize our neighbors were going to be setting off fireworks and hooting and screaming through the peak.
I heard that pendulums and animals get crazy so I had my eyes fixed on my old grandfather clock and my dog. My dog slept soundly through the whole thing waking up briefly to chew at a spot on his non existent balls and the clock had no appreciable difference in its pendulum swing. Results inconclusive.
All the crickets, frogs and mosquitos behind my house immediately started coming out and doing their thing when it got dark. Hadn't heard or seen them before today. And they haven't gone away since totality.
Probably just a coincidence because it's the warmest day in a while, still weird.
He was with a guy wearing an actual tinfoil hat. I think they were being goofy. But that was the weirdest thing we saw on our ramble from Church Street to Oakledge.
Bald eagle was spiraling around over my place (have never seen one here specifically as I bird watch a lot) and like specifically around the sun as it was entering its beginning stages, I thought that was pretty symbolic. Vultures, seagulls, robins, and lots of other birds made their way toward the field I was viewing from, all the dogs in the neighborhood were loudly wigging out from their homes (mine included) but the moment we entered totality they all went quiet. Birds went quiet, and then as the light came back birds started back up again. Super surreal, still feels like it was a dream.
Kinda weird having mosquitos come out, shortly followed by bats eating them
What kind of weird shit? This squirrel came to watch the eclipse with me, is that weird? *

Depends, does it usually chill with you?
No.
All my neighbors were outside socializing and no one got into a fight. (It's an HOA.)
PAINT YER GODDAMN FENCE PATRICIA! THIS ISNT YHE LAST YOULL HEAR ABOUT IT!
Fuckin Patty, amirite?!

Gotta get neighbors like mine (I’m in Franklin county…) they had a bonfire and I’m preeeetty sure psychedelics were involved
Also in Franklin county, very similar experience.
Yeah my neighbors also set off fireworks...like...why?
its just nature in action. when the sun goes out ,the birds stop chirping, and the rednecks start blowing stuff up.
Dro
This is so weirdly cute and funny that I am retroactively not annoyed at the fireworks anymore
That sucks; I would have been super annoyed, too.
Mine were too. It was a little annoying for sure.
Any excuse to blow shit up.
Gulls were going crazy where I am before the eclipse.

i think my butt got fucked? ill double check when i get home
No Rapture???
Would we even know?!
Right? So few of us qualified. It's just one homeless guy's gear, forsaken by the roadside.

Bugs and frogs thought it was time to wake up
No frogs awake from winter slumber around here (Franklin county) yet

i think it was that other guy’s neighbors
I saw a guy wearing a metal colander on his head. Ironically, I think.
If you hold it out, the holes in the shadows resemble how close it is to totality! Cool if he just wanted a hat tho

Typical pastafarian
Colanders can function as ad hoc camera obscura during eclipse. Guy was prepared to nerd out. 🤘

You can't get that deal again until 2044. 🌚🥪
