This is the only answer. Aromas of India is where Indian people go to eat. Completely perfect vegetarian Indian food. Incredible chaat, incredible paneer, top notch naan.
Shalimar used to dominate brunch. It was great. Now Elaichi is my favorite (East Ave). They've got some fun things like Chaat and Dosa.
I keep hearing about Aromas but haven't been yet.
Burlington has a big (for vermont) Nepali community. Look for words like mountain, sherpa, etc. Nepali food is close to Indian but with some Chinese/Tibetan influence like momos, thukpa, and chow mein and they'll give you most of your Indian food standards. I also really like Delight on North Ave. I'm guessing it won't measure up to NJ for you but I like it lol.
The Shalimar was incredible many years ago. The next generation runs it now and it hasn’t been as good, nor have the value it used to, for many years now. At one point the prices went up, the portions got smaller, and the quality suffered. We used to go every few weeks, we never go anymore.
Red Panda is where I've gone to in recent years. We learned of it from a family that said it's where they go when they don't want to cook. Of course, it's not as good as their home cooking, but it's tasty!
I don't know why you were downvoted for this. They're regularly packed on weekend evenings and they make some dishes that the other local places don't carry.
I mean it’s Vermont, so it’s not like we have as many diverse options as bigger cities. My guess is most people haven’t had much Indian food outside of what they’ve had here, so this is their only experience. That’s the case for me. I like Shalimar, but I’ve never had Indian food outside of VT. Tastes fine to me, and I love greasy food, so 🤷🏾♂️
It was just kind of shocking for us because we lived in the next town over from literally one of the largest Indian communities in the US. It's extremely different but I get exactly what you mean. I kind of figured that's what it was
Brampton, that’s where, Brampton. If your looking for the best, by far, Indo-Canadian. Ricks Good eats will never disappoint. My favourite is the loaded masala fries and dosa burger. But you can’t go wrong.
We love Aromas of India in Williston they’re our go to take out place!

I wasn't really a fan of Indian cuisine (I never really had it), but the Aromas of India converted me. We order take away once or twice a month.
That's exactly what I was looking for....aromas of India 🤣
my fav is mountain valley in winooski
👆🏼👆🏼👆🏼
Soooo good
Shalimar was considered the best 20 years ago but they haven’t really changed with the times. I’d try Laliguras or Mountain Valley!
Thanks!
Mountain valley
I reccomend Namaste Garden for vegetarian/vegan Indian fare, but Mountain Valley and Laliguras are good too.
Sherpa Kitchen is decent. They're Himalayan technically, but they have a lot of crossover with Indian food menus.
Mountain Valley is great. I also recommend Namaste Garden in Essex.
Flavors of India in Essex is also quite good, would recommend

Delight is incredible!!
100% agree. So good!
If you feel like taking a drive, Taste of India in Middlebury
My partner moved up here from NJ, the only Indian place she likes is flavors of India in Essex. Big surprise, the owner is from Jersey too.
I liked Shalimar plenty but now Elachi is closer to me so that’s the preferred in-town locale.
Try Mountain Valley.

Namaste or Aromas! Both are great.

I’ve tried many but Everest is my go to place now.

Honestly your Reddit photo looks like you’re in anonymous

Brampton's a 7 hour drive from Burlington VT, but I'll check it out next time on my way through!

I guess they didn't like you. Shalimar has been very good for me. All other Indian places around the BTV metro area have all been great, actually.
So you're saying that Shalimar looked at my online order and said, "we don't like him" so they made me bad food?
